Very poor service!!! Do not order thru your app in store. They prioritize drive thru & forget your order!! We waited for one drink today 30 mins in store!!! We ordered thru the app. There were literally 8 employees supposedly working!! They are standing around, chatting with each other and smiling. I mean-- just work on the customers' drinks! Right?! We had not been back to this Starbucks for years. It was just as we remembered it. It was like stepping back into time when Starbucks were large, clean, not overcrowded, and unfettered by the mentally ill, drug addicts, and grifters who now plague most Starbucks and similar type businesses across the country and particularly nanny states like CA. There were no key pads on the bathroom doors, which were men's and women's. The friendly multicultural staff who took our order was efficient and very nice. They got our drink order right on the first try. They were out of a few items we wanted, but kindly suggested suitable substitutes. They had good drive through and some inside business, but our drinks were prepared in a reasonable amount of time. Although there were some customers, we still had a choice of tables and were able to get a good seat, unlike other locations where every table is full nearly from open till close. The background music was not up too high and the conversations near us were not too loud. We were able to sit in peace for an hour or two and feel relatively safe and unmolested from panhandlers and other customers asking for our table until we decided it was time to leave. Overall, it was a great 5 star experience and we will be back again sometime when we are in the area. Tip: They have a small to medium sized lot which likely will hold enough cars per the tables inside, but it is easier to access from the back small side street rather than from the front on the main street. read more

Unfortunately, I think 1 star is deserved. We ordered 2 drinks and 2 food items in house. We got the food items about 10 minutes after we placed the ordered. Then, we got 1 drink 20 minutes after we ordered. Then the last drink came out 30 minutes after we placed the order, and it tasted like straight milk, not the iced brown sugar shaken espresso that was ordered. When we asked if they could remake the drink, the barista said that she could give us brown sugar packets to put in the drink so she didn't have to remake it! What in the world?! So, I just paid $6 for a cup of milk that they want to give me sugar packets for? That was the point that we decided that we would not come back to this location. Overall, waiting a total of 30 minutes for coffee to just be made wrong is pretty bad. Keep in mind, when we walked in, only one person was in front of us and 3 people in the lobby. We watched 6 people that came in after us receive their food and drinks before us. This place does have friendly staff, but there is no organization going on behind the counter it seems. Side note, the bathrooms were pretty bad. Both stalls had toilets filled with other people's kids, (if you catch my drift). When this Starbucks opened it functioned so well it could have been held up as a flagship for the corporation. I refer to my previous review and the comments within. The last three drive-through experiences over the course of six weeks were simply terrible. The wait in line now is excruciating. Two of the three visits I waited more than 15 minutes. Today with only two cars ahead of me I waited for more than 10 minutes. If the store has software to repudiate my claim I invite them to explain below. The woman at the window was unapologetic, could care less. They must know they have a problem. In years past there was comfort in knowing if the wait was extreme they would apologize or hand out a free drink card. Whatever happened to this store? I have to believe the baristas are trying but something is wrong when customers sit in the drive-through line long enough to consider catching a nap before getting their drink. I love this Starbucks! When it first opened, I was visiting on vacation. I loved the somewhat nautical decor that seemed to go well with the Monterey community. One of the great things about this Starbucks is it's open floor plan and many spaces. The long wood table is definitely a lovely piece. The entrance facing the street is closest to where you order. The rear door leads the the parking lot and large patio. I love the patio -- but beware of the seagulls! Look around and you'll see the guano on the roof and walls. No one wants to get hit by to bird poo. You can always sit under an umbrella. The comfy cushioned seating can be arranged into seat groupings or a sofa. It can offer be windy and chilly outside in the evening, so you may want to snag a prime spot on one of the upholstered chairs inside. Many Starbucks don't have comfy seating anymore; this one does! And you're near power outlets of you want to get work done. Other great features for this Starbucks are: a superb staff, consistent drinks, a decent food selection, nice restrooms, and a drive thru. The only reason I can't give five stars: this Starbucks closes too early! 10pm is so early. Uber and Lyft drivers need a place to hang out (and spend money!). Also, I can't tell you how many times I've seen Monterey Police officers at the 24hr CVS down the street because it's the only place open -- and just the other night, I saw one buying Starbucks in a bottle! That's a travesty! Please consider keeping this Starbucks open until at least midnight. I guarantee locals, tourists, and late shift workers will thank you for it! UPDATE: Although the floors are mopped way before closing, the restrooms need more attention. This morning they were in the same condition as last night. Plus, the trash was full inside the store...hinting last night no one took out the trash. The upholstered chairs also need to be cleaned of crumbs. Such a beautiful Starbucks; let's keep it cleaner. Sometimes it's good and hit and miss at this location. Be mindful that you won't get a full cup of hot latte or coffee.
