This is one of the best Starbucks I've been to! The servers were extremely friendly and completed my order very promptly. The interior was rather large and very spotless. If you are looking for a Starbucks in Hermosa beach, this is a great one!

FYI: This Starbucks is located inside of Von's. My relationship with this particular Starbucks started off like ANY relationship starts off. Sane, friendly, affectionate and fun. I used to stop by every morning before work because there was almost never a line, unlike the Hermosa Ave & Manhattan Beach locations, and the barista knew my name which was a major plus......But an abuser is an abuser and the lashings, much to my surprise, were definitely on their way. The barista who worked mornings used to greet me with a smile and kind conversation and took my semi-strange (but practically ordinary compared to other customers) drink requests with a jolly laugh and then sent me off with a yummy beverage, a warm goodbye, wishing that my day would go as I had hoped. All of that changed though when something clearly had changed in her personal life.... After a couple of months, I wasn't greeted with a genuine smile anymore. I got a forced smile which quickly turned into a snarl as I was asking for my drink. See, I like variety. I'm not one of those people that gets the same thing every single time. If I wanted that, I would get married. Instead, I like to switch it up on occasion. And when she was irritable, she took it out on me and my right to variety as a consumer. Suddenly drinks that she once made the way I liked, she was making differently. When I would kindly ask her to please pour out some of the excess water so I had room for cream (which is why I ordered a grande in a venti cup), she would snap at me, roll her eyes, saying she GAVE me the grande size ...instead of just pouring the water out and not making a scene. It got to the point where she was setting the wrong tone for my work day and that was no bueno. I would leave feeling kind of down which would stay with me for the rest of the day, like a film of hairspray stuck on you. So, I stopped going. I'm not drinking Starbucks everyday anymore since it's just not practical money wise, however, when I do occasionally indulge (like this morning), I just leave 5 - 10 minutes earlier than normal and hit up the Hermosa Ave or Manhattan Beach location instead. They might be a bit busier, but it's worth it to be treated like the great customer I know that I am. Fortunately for this location, the afternoon shift crew is way, way, WAY nice and accommodating, so that's why I'm keeping them at 3 stars. I think in the meantime though, Starbucks would be wise to counsel that girl or hire someone else who's up to the task of rendering excellent customer service. There's a million people who would gladly replace her during this economy and would let the sun shine out of their asses if that's what it took.

The mess of drink I was given.

We left without raising any objections. As we were exiting, we passed another customer--a white woman--who was entering the shop. I overheard her ask, "Are you closed? Can you take one more order?" Although I did not hear the staff's reply, I saw her exclaim "Yay!" with joy, jumping in excitement. She then waited inside and received her coffee. As an Asian customer, this experience left me with a strong impression of unequal treatment based on appearance. While another customer who arrived moments later was accommodated, we were abruptly turned away. I understand that closing procedures exist; however, their inconsistent application raises serious concerns regarding fairness and customer service.

I thought it was odd but understand because they close at 4:00.When we walked out a friend of the Barista walked in and was promptly served. Maybe we didn't look local enough even though I've lived here since 1989. The coffee is just okay and they are often out of the treats so you have better options like Java Man, Gum Tree, Lat Gitana , all excellent.

I had a pretty solid positive outlook on them. I ordered the "French Toast Latte". I feel like it should have been called the Burnt toast latte. I genuinely took 3 sips and tossed it away in the trash can on the side walk. I tried to mix it and grabbed a straw to do so and it made it WORSE. I'm extremely disappointed that I wasted $7 on a latte. I've had bad coffees before, but this one took the cake. It tasted like milk, and the espresso tasted acidic, burnt have you. At least with other bad coffees I could stomach at least half of it but this was just really acidic. I noticed other people mentioning the coffee scene in LA isn't the same anymore and this attested to that. They started picking up foot traffic & I wasn't going to wait to ask for a remake or anything, I took the L and life moves on. I wasn't going to play Karen about it. The Lamington pastry somewhat saved the experience. This was an extremely moist, spongy, sweet cake that was delicious with coconut flakes on top. She was AMAZING. I snagged a piece off my friends and it was reeallllly good. I would recommend if you like coconut and a softer spongy cake like pastry! Talk about the underdog in this trip. The aesthetic is cute, it's clean and resembles a house. I like the scheme they have going on. The other half looks like a gift shop that I did not go into. They have a restroom available as well inside. Customer service was just customer service. Nothing amazing or bad about it. Pretty standard. We mentioned it's our first time & the girl didn't really care lol. We had questions and it was very whatever kind of vibe. No enthusiasm. Parking would be on the street so good luck!
