Matcha strawberry, iced, medium
Daniele J.

A very cute little small café. We came here by a 40 minute drive (each way) and it was well worth it. We drive far for good coffee The place is small, but it feels very eclectic with a touch of artistic style, mosaic tables with petite multilevel seating. There is street parking. There are not a lot of people behind the counter, so it does take a little bit of time to get your order, on a busy day. But everybody waiting outside is very friendly and enjoying their day. So, it seems to attract and give off a good vibe. We saw people riding bikes, walking dogs, and we saw families going for walks. It seems like a very nice community and very peaceful. It's a short walk to the ocean, which I will definitely walk to next time. We ordered a classic Café mocha, a chilled Matcha strawberry, and a bottle of Mexican Coke.

Enjoyed the artistic vibes and mazapán latte by the beach. I tried the tomato pastry and it was ok but didn't taste very fresh, I'll try another baked good next time to see if it's any better.

Chocolate croissant & vanilla rose latte
Shirley R.

They have a great menu with lots of options, outside seating and exceptional service! Their customer service really shines, I had gotten a drink I ended up not liking and after letting them know they exchanged it for the vanilla rose latte instead, with no problem, and it was amazing!! I definitely recommend this place always.

Tucked just a few blocks from the sand, Gitana Cafe is a charming, locally owned Colombian coffee shop that delivers on warmth, flavor, and authenticity. The space is cozy with a rustic, welcoming vibe. Inside, you'll find Colombian art adorning the walls, and the outside patio offers a breezy, laid-back spot to sip your drink and people-watch. There's also a small upstairs area if you're looking to escape the coastal chill. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a flaky biscuit and a Spanish latte--and both exceeded expectations. The sandwich was buttery and satisfying without being too heavy, and the latte had beautiful milk art with hints of cinnamon and brown sugar that gave it a warm, comforting profile. Prices are a bit steep--$18 for the combo--but you're supporting a local spot with heart and real character. The staff were friendly, and everything felt intentional and thoughtfully put together. Highly recommend if you're in Hermosa Beach and want something more meaningful than your standard chain café.

Lavender Matcha + Maza Pan Latte

Cute Vibes, But Some Things to Note Gitana's Cafe definitely gives off a strong Hispanic cultural vibe with its decor--it's colorful, warm, and feels like a little slice of something special tucked into the area. The café itself is small (which is pretty common for the area), with the inside just for ordering. All the seating is outdoors, split between a first and second floor. There are about six tables total, and I appreciated the mix of table styles--it gave the space a cozy, laid-back feel. They have a nice selection of pastries, and we ordered the peanut butter latte and the matcha with lavender syrup. The matcha was surprisingly rich, which I liked, though I wish I had asked for more lavender syrup--it was a bit faint. The peanut butter latte didn't really taste like peanut butter except for some bits at the bottom, so that one was a little underwhelming. Prices were on the higher side for what you get, and with limited seating (all outdoors) and no bathroom available, it's not the most convenient spot if you're hoping to stay a while. Overall, 3 out of 5 stars - the vibes and decor are definitely a win, but the drinks and setup left a little to be desired.

Stroolwaffel latte, matcha tonic
Jennifer S.

Cute little cafe with a massive menu and a lot of unique drinks - debated on what to get but ended up ordering the stroopwaffel latte which was pretty good! Also ordered the matcha tonic which was refreshing, but not enough matcha for my taste. Very cute, earthy, and colorful inside, but there isn't interior seating. There are a couple tables outside.

Bacon Breakfast burrito

Super friendly staff and amazing food! You can never go wrong with their dirty chai and bacon breakfast burrito. Super cool ambience and in a great location by the beach. Perfect for morning coffee and stroll on the strand.

Empanada

Gitana has a cool name and really nice looking building and location. My burrito and empanada were somewhat underwhelming. Service was also too blase and the guy working should try being more upbeat and communicative. The premises is also very small with only a few tables. It's not actually on the beach but the next street away. Another issue, not the restaurants fault, is alot of people were speeding through a rather dangerous intersection and not stopping at the stop sign. There were a lot of families with kids and I felt bad for them and myself as bicyclists and pedestrians being targets for all the bad drivers. Watch the driving folks.

The dirty horchata latte and the gansito ice coffee

I really enjoyed my coffee here the dirty horchata Ice coffee is to die for! The cashier was very friendly as well he seems like he enjoys working there which is great cause now in days ppl just work to work but show no interests in their jobs. Loved it will be back again :)

Prosciutto Panini
Jasmine H.

Burritos are only available on the weekends! My brother and I were looking forward to trying the breakfast burrito but we went during the week and were told they weren't available even though it wasn't indicated anywhere. The prosciutto panini was really tasty at first but the fig jam became too sweet towards the end. My brother really enjoyed his chicken panini. The dirty horchata was tasty and strong. The location is easy to miss but it's cute and whimsy. The prices were reasonable.

Iced mango matcha with coconut milk
Emily V.

Not sure how long the Iced Mango Matcha will be a special here but I definitely recommend. It's the perfect amount of sweet and earthy with the matcha and mango. I also recommend getting it with coconut milk to enhance the mango.

Top: Chai Tea Latte + croissant Bottom: Spanish Latte w/ almond milk

A go-to spot when in Hermosa. Inviting atmosphere and outdoor seating area to enjoy the coastal breeze. I got a Spanish latte with almond milk, and my friend got a hot chai tea latte with a croissant. Love that the coffee is brought to you outside, great baristas!

This photo is the example of that foamy. We're looking thing. I don't know if that has to do with having an aftertaste of tapwater.

One cool detail out front is a small wishing tree where you can hang tags, which adds a fun, thoughtful touch to the place. The gift shop next door was bright and festive, perfect for the holidays, and a great spot to pick up some last-minute, unique gifts you don't see everywhere. I'm an adult woman, almost 48, and I don't appreciate being told how I should behave in a disrespectful way. At one point, an employee even told me not to talk to other customers--even when they were the ones starting conversations with me. That felt like bullying. Thankfully, that employee is no longer there, but the overall attitude still hasn't fully improved. I've been bringing my two dogs with me for a long time without any issues. Recently, I was told I can't use the bathroom anymore--even just to quickly wash my hands before eating. I understand rules about dogs not being allowed in certain areas, and that was explained properly, but the way everything was handled felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. Because of this shift in attitude, I've noticed other customers have stopped coming as well, like Alex and Trisha. Some people have even mentioned that the overall environment and customer treatment aren't as good as they used to be. It's disappointing, because this used to be a place I really liked. Now it feels like the attitude has changed, and not in a good way.

And he grabbed a towel and wiped in extra well with a smile. Two of us ordered the Buddha vegan bowl (9/10; quinoa was fluffy, tofu was tasty but a little firm for me, everything else about it was fresh and well-done. The mushroom serving was my favorite part.) My friend ordered the Beef Macro bowl (9/10: beef was the best part and everything else was good. The wild rice was tender; but it tastes "healthy"). My last friend ordered the salmon bowl (9/10: all of us raved about the salmon. Had the same wild rice. I liked it but my friend said it was too soft for her. The rest of the items that came with it were similar and tasty). Before I left, Molly helped me order a mushroom reishi hot chocolate drink. Molly was so sweet and helpful. She recommended the homemade almond milk. (8/10). The ambiance was warm and cozy. I loved the multi-level structure. Therefore, the name, "The Hive". Cute design and a good place to bring a computer and have a quiet spot to chill.

The inside is large and spacious with a lot of seats. It's really open and has nice natural lighting and there is also a little patio area with outdoor seating. I really liked the vibes of the cafe and that alone would convince me to come back. There's a lot of various merch on display as well as house coffee beans and bottled drinks. There's also an area with board games and books to borrow. The cashier at the front was really nice and chill. He listed the different options for milk for my lattes and refilled the water tank at the end of the station after being notified it was low. I love that they had a chilled water tank that's self serve in the cafe because that hit after my run. For drinks I got a teddy graham latte with oat milk which was a seasonal spring menu item. It was topped with cinnamon which gave it almost a little spicy kick in the beginning that I was not mad about. The oat milk was so creamy and I liked that the latte wasn't overly sweet. I also got a matcha latte with oat milk for my mother-in-law. The matcha was delicious and the drink again was not overly sweet which can be the case at some other places. I didn't get any food this time but the pastries were all very temping and looked so good on display. I also saw some other customers eating sandwiches that looked hearty so I may need to make another trip here to try out some of the food. Overall, really nice cafe that I would definitely recommend to anyone coming to the area!

The café was crowded, and some guests were pushing and shoving in line, which put me in a slightly grumpy mood at first. Thankfully, the food more than made up for the wait. The menu isn't very large, so I chose the turkey club, not expecting much from what I assumed would be a basic sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised. The country white bread was phenomenal, all the ingredients tasted fresh, and the sandwich was generously filled with turkey. The addition of arugula brought everything together beautifully and created an excellent balance of flavors. I also ordered a hot brown sugar latte, which had just the right level of sweetness and paired perfectly with the sandwich. The matcha was refreshing and well made, and the almond pastry was nicely crisp. Altogether, the food and drinks completely turned my day around. The total for all four items came to $33, which is a bit on the expensive side, but ultimately felt well worth it given the quality. Since I had my dog with me, I sat outside on the patio. While functional, the outdoor seating could use a bit more ambiance. It felt somewhat desolate, though the lavender bushes lining the sides show promise and will likely look wonderful once they grow larger and fuller. Overall, despite the initial wait and crowd, the quality of the food and drinks made this a very enjoyable experience, and I would happily return.

This is where everything started going downhill. First sip, questionable. Second sip, even more questionable. Mix the coffee with the straw for a minute, another sip, even worse. It tasted like I was drinking the water from a burnt coffee bean with a hint of cinnamon. It was NOT good. I was very sad. I ended up ordering an iced chai latte as a secondary choice.. because how hard is it to mess up a chai? WELP. It was managed to be messed up as well. How?! Martha girl, who was making the drinks this day, cause nuh uh, more training now. The iced chai latte was watery. It did not resemble a chai at all, even the color was weird. I took 2 sips and never finished either drink. I had my counterpart try it-- mind you, I took a sip and gave no reaction to not bias my counterpart. Once they tried it, they were just as astonished to how horrible both drinks were. They ordered the banana bread latte. oh my-lanta. Artificial, sweet, sour banana flavor, he had it switched out for a blended pump shake that was much better-- REALLY sweet, but they loved it. For the breakfast option, I ended up ordering the huevos playa. The hashbrowns were cooked evenly and tender. The sauce/salsa it was sitting in. not it. you're not that guy pal. tasted like pace salsa from a jar or something. that weird salsa taste that makes you aware that it is not home made. I did not like it whatsoever. The sour cream, guac and eggs were the only thing I enjoyed out of this dish. I would not order this again. The cinnamon pancake was the only thing that saved the experience, but even then, $17 for a singular pancake is absolutely insane. Overall, I was extremely, and I mean extremely, disappointed. I wish it lived up to all the social media hype that is around, but my taste buds were extremely unhappy leaving. Service was great, the lady removed the banana bread latte off our bill for not liking it, but I stayed with my 2 awful drinks. I ended up going to a coffee shop to fill my Spanish latte cravings after leaving. Parking is on the street, metered. fills up FAST.

I sent it back they brought the same sandwich out. They have been making the drinks incorrectly (because they are always training new staff since the fall and it's almost spring). The menu is approachable and thoughtful, with some really delightful Greek dishes. And yes, Uncle Stavros has to be Greek, right? My wife and I shared the Greek salad and the chicken gyro. Both plates looked amazing and tasted just as good. I almost went with the beef and lamb gyro, but for lunch the chicken felt right, and it did not disappoint. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The salad was full of great flavors and textures. After tasting the gyro chicken, we both agreed the salad would be even better with that same chicken added in. The real showstopper, though, was the pita. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a gyro where the pita itself stood out. It was so good that we ordered extra to take home. All around, it was a fantastic experience.
