I order from this location almost every day, as my office is in the same building. I usually order the same drink too and never had much issue. Recently, I had an experience that made me never want to come again, which is so heartbreaking since I love getting coffee in the morning. I rarely have an issue with my drink, but one day my coffee was almost white with too much cream! I asked nicely for an extra shot instead of asking for a remake since there was supposed to be 4 shots of espresso already in there and I figured it would save them the trouble of remaking. The lady had the nerve to say to me "usually we charge for an extra shot, but I'll do it this time". My drink was already made incorrectly and you act like adding an extra shot is doing me a favor?? That response left such a bad taste in my mouth I haven't been able to go back since. read more

ANA is extremely cranky and hates her job. just serves everybody with a disgusted look on her face. had our child with us while we were ordering and we asked for the bathroom combo and she replied "it should be on your reciept" told her he really needed to go to the bathroom "it should be on your reciept" she just kept saying. after we were done ordering she didn't give us our infamous reciept with the bathroom combo, had to ask for it and it had no combo on it. had to ask for the combo and she wrote it on there. she could have easily just givin us the combo for our child but she wanted to be a bitch. just poor service for Starbucks. get another job if you hate this place and hate customers. read more

I'm not going to waste your time reviewing their menu because let's face it, you've been to a Starbucks (and if not, get out there!). You're either a fan or your not. And I for one, am a huge fan. A Starbucks snob, if you will. This is partially to blame on their ridiculous convenience factor. For the last year and a half I've worked in an office with this Starbucks located right inside the LOBBY OF THE BUILDING. You could say I frequented this Starbucks... A LOT. The staff is great here! I really appreciate that they remember your name and your order - which is impressive because they are packed every morning! It's this kind of appreciation that has customers coming back for more. I personally think they handle their busy rush hours very well. I've never waiting super long for my order and even when I've waited just a little bit, I was given a free drink coupon! Much appreciated. Only downfall: It's not a very big location. They do have some chairs and seats up at the front window, but it's not a spot I'd stay awhile. Not great for meetings either, gets kind of loud. This Starbucks is more of a get in, get out kinda shop. To wrap this up... job well done Starbucks. I highly recommend 200 W. I take the pink line to work and my train was delayed so I decided to grab an uber. While I waited, I stopped by at the Starbucks on Madison and Wells to grab a pumpkin scone. Keep in mind that this was at 7:42 am and I was SO incredibly fortunate that the line wasn't long because that's when most people are either about to arrive to work or heading into work. I figured I could order the scone, the barista could give it to me and I could be on my way out. Except, that didn't happen. I ordered my scone and ol' homegirl just stood there. She expected me to wait for everyone to get their bagels toasted or their breakfast sandwiches heated up before my order could be filled. I'm sorry but I've ordered scones and sweets before from Starbucks and if it doesn't require warming up (it has glazed and couldn't be warmed up), then there is NO excuse as to why she couldn't give me the scone as soon as I was done paying. Keep in mind in that whole five minutes while I waited, she just stood by the register waiting to take orders. To make matters worse, as soon as I registered that she wasn't going to get the scone to me and that I had to wait behind everyone else, I was like oh no... I have to go and that's when the heavy foot traffic started. I walked up to the cashier and said, "Cancel my order" and she said, "You have to give me a second to refund you your money back" and I just walked out because I didn't have time for that nonsense. Waste of $3.24 for nothing. Another thing, if you know heavy foot traffic is coming in, why is there only one cashier? There were two people off to the side looking at some manuals. UNACCEPTABLE. The worst part is, later that day I went to my Starbucks on Taylor street and ordered the same thing and the barista gave me the scone as soon as she rung me up. Starbucks on Madison and Wells, super unacceptable to be this inefficient at 7:45 am. Please develop better best practice policies for heavy morning commutes. Consistently the worst Starbucks in the Loop. Even though this one is closest to my office, I really try to avoid going here. If I order a mobile order 10-15 minutes before I arrive, I inevitably still end up waiting 20 minutes for my order. If I order in person, I get my tea right away but I takes them SO long to make my oatmeal. Ordered in person at 8:35 today and got my oatmeal at 8:55, while multiple people who ordered after me got their food before me. This place gives me such a bad start to my mornings. Seriously, go to the Starbucks on State and Adams for much better service. Oh and my oatmeal was basically soup. So much excess water. Ugh. read more

But when you examine each snowflake you'll find they're unique and special, though they look the same. Poetic. Well, I know you're busy so I'll cut to the chase. This location is larger than most and has fantastic furniture. And as mentioned in previous reviews... The service is ghastly. Um I simply ordered a drink so please don't make those faces or noises. BUT the best barista in the world Brian works there! He's amazing: he chats with customers, is fast, always smiling, just brightens your day. I've seen him in street clothes and the first time thought "holy sht is that Mark Ronson!" (who I've met in passing). Both are nothing to sneeze at. Why am I reviewing a Starbucks? Because standing in the Starbucks and shouting my complaints is frowned upon. Whoever laid out this particular Starbucks has a fantastic sense of humor. The floor is uneven, the layout for the line to order is odd as best, and there's very little space to wait for your drink. Combine all that architectural ineptitude with the culture of smartphone absorption running rampant in the loop and you get a messy group of people bumping into each other or standing in the 2 foot wide walk way. You could politely say "excuse me" to get past people but you'll either get a "I'm waiting for my drink" or nothing because they still have earbuds in their ears. Luckily the only thing I have to stab people with is the banana I buy with my tea in the morning...otherwise we'd have some serious problems. I think I'll actually adjust my commute to take me past a different Starbucks just to avoid this coffee and tea clusterfuck. read more

I generally don't review chains. This one is deserving! This downtown location has some of the worst baristas I've ever met. I met a friend at 7:30am to help her with some non-profit work prior to my daily work schedule. We both ordered our coffee on Starbucks aap for convenience. She received hers timely and mine somehow wasn't ready. I checked twice if they have it, while busy working. By 8am, the line was overflowing beyond their doors yet my coffee wasn't ready. My Barista somehow convinced me perhaps I sent my order to the wrong location so I should order another. I clearly checked location address, anyway I desperately needed my coffee so went ahead and placed another order. I checked on it 15 min later and my second order is still not ready; by 8:30am I took matters into my hand and asked him to show me his screen. I pointed my name twice on his screen and at that point, he hands me both my orders. 1St order made at 7:30 and second order made at 8am, he's handing me two cups at 8:30am.... needless to say, both cups were cold and I was forced to make 3rd order. I again waited for the coffee and refund on original two orders.... I've worked in this area for 9yr and I rarely ever visit this location! NOW I remember why! read more

I agree with Ela G when she says, "not every Starbucks is created equal." However, being a corporate shop, I kinda expect the products to be similar, which they are. The differentiating factor is the service. The service at this particular Starbucks is quite poor. Quite poor service indeed. The cashier(s) seem so disaffected. I expect this kind of behavior in REAL coffee shops where the staff really ARE starving artists. The "barista" snapped at me to,"put down that spice shaker" (I picked up the pumpkin spice shaker out of curiosity...apparently we are in pumpkin spice latte season). A third staff member was mindlessly mopping/sweeping/dancing with a broom/mop and listening to an iPod. The star earned here is for the corporate level quality of my over-priced coffee drink. There's dozens of Starbucks in the Loop, but why this one? I love the fact that it has all kinds of seating. Outdoor (although you won't get much sun since you're next to the L), comfy, stools, handicapped, and even just regular seating. So if I'm in the mood to study or relax, I can come here. And the staff is great. Really friendly, customer-service orientated, and great people in general. They can recognize you easily. I may be a little biased since I think one of the baristo is a good looking guy, but because he never gives me a bad cup of coffee, this place deserves an extra star. ;) read more

I've never seen such a slow line at Starbucks! Cashiers were friendly but the baristas are awful. While waiting for my drink, a friend of the barista runs up with the lastest guy gossip. Turns out the guy who Barista is crushing on has a girlfriend of 2 years. Oh no! This causes Barista to ponder her love life and make the drinks EVEN FREAKING SLOWER. There are already-made drinks behind and chillin on the counter. None are labelled and she wasn't calling out orders, so none of us knows what is what. Somehow, her friend gets her drink way before anyone. This lady was three or four places behind me in line! I had been waiting almost 10 minutes so I asked about my drink. Barista said she it was three drinks behind. She rushed to make drinks and my cup was messy and dripping coffee. Unacceptable. The business model at the Lasalle/Monroe location is so much better. Service is OK and drinks are generally at chain standards but this place is a magnet for thieves with so many people close together in a small space. My friend had a wallet down in a deep bag and it was stolen by someone in the line to order - not worth the risk to bring anything inside, I would steer clear if you are carrying a purse or tote and/or have your phone out for a call or texting. read more

It's time to step out of my green apron, and see Starbucks from my own eyes. This store runs a tight shift, it's clean, quick, busy, lovely, full of toothless grins and hair-pins. Not even minute after ordering and awkwardly opening my wallet hoping not to pay this time, my usual hot-water full of vanilla and twelve honey packets is ready to pick up at the counter. There was a group of twelve business guys standing around talking in all jargon. I was stuck behind them as they lumbered toward the door into the building, and one of their adult diapers opened and I slipped in their shit. Luckily the manager was kind with a band-aid and a joke that wasn't racist. The bathrooms are free too, which can get full of homeless people from time to time. With a quick brush of the broom, a shift-lead will kindly escort them out to their shopping carts, so it's never a problem. Also, at night, expect a live drama between co-workers (I heard some of them are actors) as they practice scripts and talk about owls. So check this Starbucks out, it's a 'hoot.' read more

This Starbucks is consistently terrible. Bad customer service even though there are always close to 10 people working. Today, I had to wait 20 minutes for a black coffee. They skipped over my order and made the next five peoples specialty drinks and when I brought it up to 3 workers, they were all snippy with me and didn't make it. I've been coming here for the last 4 years and the service has never been this bad as it is this year. They must have changed managers and not trained these workers. read more

Starbucks understands my coffee addiction, and, combined with a strong business model, is able to continuously separate me from my money. It truly is a vicious cycle - I don't get up early enough because I haven't had my coffee yet, so I don't have time to make coffee at home and end up getting Starbucks. Lather, rinse, repeat. This particular location gets an extra star for being in my building and having a friendly staff. Not having to go at all out of my way in the morning and being able to run downstairs for a quick caffeine fix during the day is a big convenience. Each staff member knows what I normally order, which is just another reminder that I go here too much. Otherwise, this is a pretty standard loop Starbucks - standard menu, just a little bit of room for seating, and a relatively small collection of merchandise available. read more

This Starbucks knows how to do it right! Obvi everyone has been to Starbucks but this location makes an amazing effort to match the face with the order. I rarely am part of the morning rush but waiting in line, they seemed to know everyone in line next to me and their order. They are always happy to warm up your baked good item. There have been two occasions when something went wrong with my order and they made it up to me by offering a free drink on them (one time they were out of breakfast sandwiches and the other they recommended a drink I ended up not enjoying). I work upstairs and take my own mug with me most of the time ($0.10 off). One time the barista thought my mug was cute and gave me a free drink in it! This has to be my favorite Starbucks yet! read more

I don't understand why people who place orders at the register are waiting - literally, sometimes 10-15 deep - for their orders while the six baristas make mobile orders for people who may come in soon. I don't get it. We go in, pay, and are RIGHT THERE TO PICK UP OUR DRINK. Meantime, the mobile order rack is stacking up with so many orders getting cold, and literally no one is making orders for the people waiting. I presume this is Starbucks's policy? This location is excellent! I placed my order on the train at 7:49 AM and it was ready when I came in at 7:55. I typically order from the Starbucks beneath my building (about a block away) because it's convenient. I've actually placed orders 20 minutes before arriving at the other location and they still make me wait. This store was much different! Not only were they fast, the customer service was just what I needed to start my day. The barista that handed me my order was very friendly and I liked that the store wasn't overly crowded. Ok so it's just another Starbucks, who cares right? But trust me, not every Starbucks is created equal. I came here on the morning of one of Starbucks' promotions where you get a free pastry if you buy a coffee. I came prepared for a long wait. Although there was a line, I was very impressed to see a friendly and professional guy taking orders in the line. We moved up the line very fast and my drink was ready for me when I got to the register. Brilliant! I commend the order taker and the barista for the well-oiled machine. I wish I could give one review to the baristas (5 stars) and one to the layout of this Starbucks (-1 stars). I am almost always part of the morning rush and the baristas are great. They get the drinks quickly and are smiling and friendly. However, I don't understand who designed the layout of this place. The only way to and from the cash registers is a narrow walkway that usually some oblivous someone has blocked waiting for their drink. The door to the outside is regularly blocked as well. Newbies to this location are always confused and end up standing at the pickup bar for a few until they realize the line for ordering is in the back. They need a total remodel. But since that's unlikely, I'll go to this location regardless. I just can't promise I won't say something snarky to the people blocking everyone's way. read more

Great staff and great service! There's a few oddballs there but I'll account their lack of knowledge to being new. This staff also has a smiles, remembers their regulars, and always delivers quality drinks. The layout is a little funky but it's by far the cleanest store ... Look behind the line compared to other Starbucks it's flawless. And if something goes wrong ...
