One of the best breakfasts I've had in a decade…read more Over the years, Americans have converted breakfast to a corporate affair. Today, our breakfasts are experienced at places like "Over Easy," "First Watch," "Village Inn," and "Denny's." It's industrial breakfast. The old-fashioned, mom-and-pop diners are as rare as a hen's tooth. But not in Buckeye, Arizona. The Heritage is a welcome return to the great, neighborhood breakfast counters of old. It's privately owned and the owner, Kevin, greets you and stops by your table. "That's great," you say. But what about the food? And that's where The Heritage makes its name. Let's start with the homemade, pillowy sourdough English muffins. Most places use some industrial-food English muffin preserved with disgusting ingredients like L-Cysteine. These aren't those. These are like your grandma made. They're soft, yeasty circles of beauty with just enough sourdough taste to send your tastebuds into bread heaven. They're a far cry from your basic English muffin. On to the eggs. Most breakfast restaurants use liquid eggs from the restaurant supply. They come in big bags, bereft of nutritious value and flavor, but full of preservatives. Not these. The Heritage uses fresh eggs and they've perfected how to make them fluffy, buttery, and perfectly-cooked. No brown spots or runny middles. It's egg perfection. The sausage is really different. These are not your usual Sysco or Shamrock greasy pucks. They're thin and fresh and meaty and just slightly spicy (not hot just slightly herby). They're a subtle flavor surprise. And fork tender. The potatoes are little cubes of rich goodness. Cooked just right and golden brown. They're excellent. To finish off the breakfast, Heritage serves a luscious Carmel pecan roll with a vanilla glaze. I liked it but it was slightly dry if I want to be ridiculously nit-picky. But most people wouldn't even notice. All of it is served by some smiling young women who were working hard and answering lots of questions. The entire service experience was pleasant, friendly, and efficient. On a Saturday morning the place was PACKED so service was slightly slow. Though nothing like a crazy morning at Over-Easy or First Watch. What an amazing and pleasant surprise this little restaurant is. Their breakfast burrito looked excellent and everybody around us was raving about it. I'll try that next. The menu is small but efficient and contains some little gems. Give the cinnamon roll a try too! This is an absolute must for breakfast or brunch. And I hear the owner is thinking about offering dinner in the near future. A needed find in a historic building in old downtown Buckeye. A new favorite.

It's a smash burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, smash sauce, and pickle. You get the option of chips, fries, or a side salad. I ordered it no onions, double patty, with fries. If I had to rate it, I'd say 7/10. The fries were just cooked enough and almost had a hint of being undercooked. The burger itself was pretty tasty, but if the bun was a little softer, I would've given it a solid 9/10. Still, their breakfast is always delicious, and that's usually what keeps us coming back.

With the old manager, they were often out of certain items (at least once a week, something would be out of stock) but it was usually the odd thing like Boston Cream donuts or rarities like coffee milk. Then, a new manager took over and I was hoping she'd be better. But alas, the store just keeps going further downhill. Now they are out of stock on items almost EVERY SINGLE TIME I order something. I pre-order on the app, to save time and to earn points, and while I've recently learned the manager is capable of updating store inventory on the app, she never does so. You'll order an item only to discover it's unavailable upon arrival. The store has no available direct phone #, so you can't just call them the old fashioned way to double check first either. The problem is, now they are out of very commonplace items that, in my many years of going here, they have never been out of: hash browns, avocado, bread, oatmilk, various donuts and munchkins (this is a donut shop, for goodness sake!), most new specialty items, and last, but not least, customer service. The restaurants in Buckeye, for the most part, aren't exactly known for their employee's customer service skills - there seems to be a whole lot of Gen Z Stare happening in these parts these days - but here, they can be just plain rude, with a couple exceptions. There used to be a plethora of friendly faces here, but they've mostly all moved on. One nice guy, who is also an exceptional cook and barista, remains. I don't know his name but if you set foot here, pray you encounter the tall-ish fellow with glasses and a ponytail. He's now the only one here worth his salt. If he's not cooking, there's now a 50% chance your order will either be incorrect or taste terrible. The new manager is often MIA - not necessarily uncommon for a Dunkin' - but she leaves shift leads in charge who have zero personality and zero capability dealing with any situations that aren't cookie cutter. Until this place gets NEW new management, I will not be returning and I advice folks to stay away. This place needs to be closed or totally revamped ASAP! For anyone looking, and willing to drive a little further, donuts are better at Bosa in Verrado and Fresh Donuts in Sundance (if you can catch them when they're open), coffee is better at Jackrabbit Java on Jackrabbit and Anthem Coffee in Verrado, and there's way better, healthier quick brunch options for only a couple bucks more at Robek's in Sundance and Tropical Smoothie Café on Miller.

I took one sip of my drink and realized I didn't like it, so I politely asked if it could be remade into something else. Instead of helping or offering any kind of solution, the man who wouldn't give me his name, but claimed to be the owner immediately became extremely aggressive and hostile. He started yelling at me and told me "fuck you" and "get the fuck out." He continued screaming and using profanity toward me and even directed his anger toward my young daughter who was with me, which was completely unacceptable and upsetting. No customer--especially a child--should ever be spoken to like that. The entire interaction was shocking, unprofessional, and honestly disturbing. I left feeling disrespected and uncomfortable. I would never recommend this place to anyone after being treated this way.
