Customers should be told upfront if items are unavailable or if drinks don't qualify. This experience was frustrating, a waste of time and money.

This time I had a really nice college student from an American Afghani family. Her name escapes me but begins w an "H." She deserves a High 5 for her Customer Service. Another new chain coffee shop just opened across the street from this place but I'm staying loyal to the Human Bean. Their staff, drinks, food is awesome so no need to switch for me.

This was my first time at a piñon-coffee-themed coffeehouse, so I hoped to try a coffee that showed…read moreoff its piñon flavor. I don't drink black coffee, but enjoy lattes with regular milk, so this experiment would be "tainted" by milk. I asked for their traditional latte, expecting piñon coffee and steamed milk only. The barista asked if I wanted it hot or iced. Hot seemed the traditional way to go. Unfortunately, when I got home and tried the latte, it was super sweet. The barista didn't ask if I wanted it sweetened. Most places either make lattes sans sweetener or ask first. Bummer. Even so, the barista was a total sweetheart. I also ordered their Piñon Bear Claw, and he recommended not heating it. When he realized his co-barista had heated it, he insisted on swapping it for a cold one, then handed it over. It tasted great, especially with the piñons on top. This NM Piñon Coffee location is cozy and quiet. If you're looking for a subdued place for a break from work, check this place out. The bear claw made the stop worth it, but the latte was too sweet to let the piñon flavor show. Next time, I'll make sure the latte isn't sweetened!

There is only one size (12oz) so I grabbed two since I'm a traveling man today. I like my coffee so needed that spare. Cinnamon rolls can be found but overall this is a coffee shop. Not like grandma's hash slinging eggs over easy, coffee, reading, chatting, and just enjoying the day in general. If I had more time, I would have written some on my dissertation this morning. On the positive side, the main dining area was filled with students studying, and the space seems well designed for that purpose. The tables and chairs were comfortable, clean, and inviting, making it a good place to settle in for a while. I didn't try any of the food this time, but some of the menu options looked interesting, and I'd be willing to come back and give them a try. With a little more polish and staffing support, I could see this becoming a great neighborhood spot.
