I've been wanting to try this local coffee shop. Lots of plants everywhere, lots of paces to sit inside and out. Much bigger than I thought it would be too. I was greeted immediately so service was awesome. They had bagels and some pastries. I chose a pastry and a London fog with almond milk. Sadly the pastry was pretty dry and not exciting. The London Fog on the other hand was so good. A little ver $12 for both seemed steep for tea and a pastry. But hey I'm supporting local. read more

My partner and I recently stopped by plata before some errands since it was along the way. I love how easily accessible it is off paseo. Staff are all very welcoming. The variety of coffees are good as well as the pastries. Hope to make it back for one of their game nights. I love their events. I had been by earlier this year with a friend for the puppy bowl with pups available for adoption. Plus they have some pretty sweet merch. I'd gotten one of their mugs for a friend as a gift back when they were at Sawmill and my partner got themselves a keychain this last visit. This coffee spot is ok. I liked that it had plenty of parking spots that it shared with other strip mall shops in the same area as Steelbender Brewery. The coffee's price to me was a little steep (or maybe I just wasn't used to coffee anymore!! But it was $8 for a matcha latter, without tips yet!!), but still tasted pleasant. Overall, a good chill spot to meet people without worrying about parking situation. Note that they are only open from morning til 3pm though, so, given some limited seating and hours, it may not be a Cafe for you if you intend to camp out for worm all day! read more

After getting an treat from the pastry place next door, I wanted to get a coffee to go with it. So, after looking at the menu, and help from the staff because the lighting and size of lettering to see the menu was a little difficult for me....I got a small chocolate latte. I like good coffee straight up black and unsweetened, but this needs lots of sugar and 1/2 and 1/2 to get down. Visited their new location off 2nd near Steel Bender Brewing. It's an inviting shop with indoor and outdoor seating. I've tried their latte and their flat white hot drinks. Both were excellent. I met a friend at Plata Coffee to try out yet another of the many coffee shops in ABQ. We're on a roll to try a new coffee shop experience every couple of weeks. There are so many good ones here that I wonder how they all can survive. Great coffee and a really good location seem to be the key to success. I believe Plata Coffee has hit the nail on the head and figured out that formula. Located in Sawmill Marketplace and close to Old Town - the center of New Mexican culture and tourism - the owners seem to have carefully selected the location. An upscale food court. After all, don't real estate agents tell you: "Location, location, location", if you want your business to be successful? This little booth / shop deserves 5 stars, but I am only going to give it 4. Why? Four seems appropriate when one Latte cost $5.80 and the second - Honey Turmeric Latte was $6.50. With tip, the total for our two small drinks was $15.64. Seems a little steep. After all, this isn't Manhattan. It is the wild, wild West. My latte was good, but no better than other nearby coffee shops. My companion said her Honey Tumeric Latte was good also, but more than either of us want to pay for a coffee adventure. For now we will find other "go-to" places. This is a great find! This shop is located within Sawmill Marketplace, in the back right corner from the front entrance. Quality coffee, great options. We had a honey turmeric latte with oat milk, and an Americano. We also bought a bag to bring home, which they ground for us to take home and brew! Beautifully presented! It was $6.5 for the 20 oz so I guess it was on the pricier end but I don't mind it since I am not going to order from them regularly. I can see how the coffee seemed weaker for some people. I was glad it wasn't too strong since coffee can make my stomach upset sometimes. I liked how it tasted. Sweet enough but not too sweet! Whatever the circumstances were, Plata turned it around and created a brick and mortar experience that puts it toward the top of the ABQ coffee scene. Incredible shots of espresso. Great flavored lattes (the biscochito latte is great). And high quality roasters that are showcased. The staff is beyond friendly and the shop space is gorgeous. This is the 3rd time I visited this coffee shop. It is located inside of the Sawmill Marketplace. The staff is super friendly every time I visit. They offer contact less payment which is great especially these days. I fell in love with their tea, since they offer it iced as well. The first couple of visits, I tried the Chai Tea latte (iced) the first two times I visited here. The iced Chai is my favorite. Today, I tried their Match Green Tea latte (iced). It was a little strong for me, but I still enjoyed it. Next time, I'll ask for some sweetener, since it was served unsweetened. I have yet to try their iced coffees, but I'm pretty sure it'll be just as good as the teas. read more

I have been to sawmill several times, too many to count and have been curious about Plata. Well today was the day I got to experience, and I get to share my experience with you. I was immediately greeted with a smile by the lovely barista which is already a good start. I ordered a simple drip coffee medium roast. I added their simple syrup and half and half to my brew. I am not a coffee connoisseur at all.and I am pretty low maintenance kind of gal when it comes to coffee. This coffee has me talking and bragging about its deliciousness! Yes, because if they can make a simple drip coffee taste this good, imagine what they can do with the rest! Our first visit to Sawmill Market started at Plata for a mid morning breakfast. Though a bit pricey for the volume of beverage, their approach to brewing is true to the beverage ordered. Thankfully this is by no means a rushed Starbucks production. The flavors of my cortado and my wife's biscochito latte were subtle yet pronounced and paired perfectly with our pastries from the Blue Door, which I've reviewed separately. Good coffee, great area to hang out, what more can you ask for? I had their seasonal honey turmeric latte and it was delish. Wonderfully flavored without being overly sweetened. You could still taste the coffee alongside the sweetness of honey with a hint of the turmeric. Definitely a good concoction to help boost the immune system. read more

I think the coffee here was a solid 3, at least in my experience. However the staff is very friendly and their payment system is contactless, plus all employees are wearing masks which brings my rating up to a 4. With that said I'd probably not have an espresso drink here again, maybe should've tried the matcha latte. We had the cortado and their seasonal special campfire latte. The cortado was... OK. We just though the espresso wasn't good quality, just tasted hollow, maybe it was just the day, but it wasn't well extracted. It truly was not good. I'm just going to hope it was the day and we got unlucky. The campfire latte... Now that's probably my fault, I shouldn't have gotten a drink that sounded super sweet with chocolate syrup and marshmallow flavor etc. To me it tasted OK, not something I'd go for again. With that said it did resemble what I imagined a campfire mocha that somehow had s'mores in it would taste like so if that's your thing, you should give it a try! If you like mochas and sweet drinks, you should definitely give it a try! It was just extremely sweet for me. However, if I just let go of the sweetness, it is a good drink overall and creative. Overall we didn't have a great experience, partly because of the espresso quality not being where we expected it to be, partly my fault. read more

The rudest costumer service I've had in years... Not even a simple hello before telling me to stand 6 feet back when I wasn't even close, I was simply just looking at the overhead menu..a little kindness goes a long way. I'm a foodie who goes around supporting local businesses daily but Couldn't even order anything because I was so disgruntled with the initial service or lack there of. I love a good latte and I only get my coffee from locally owned coffee shops. I was super excited to try the coffee shop in the new Sawmill District when they reopened. I ordered an iced latte and the baristas were not friendly but I didn't mind because they seemed to be focused on training. The employee that seemed to be doing the training was dressed in a beret and a very militant looking outfit. It got my attention and I admired her sense of unique style. When my order was ready she called it out and I went to grab it off the counter noticing no straw. I won't go into personal details of why I needed/wanted a straw but I asked if they have straws. The answer from the beret barista was loud enough for everyone visiting la plata and then some. "You don't need a straw!" was her answer. She was referring to the type of cup that had a spout. I said, "So you don't have straws?" She was obviously annoyed and said" Well guess I can FIND one for you." At this point there were other customers and the other barista witnessing her scold me for requesting a straw. She handed me the straw as if I was a naughty child in trouble with a parent. I'll be honest, I remember the coffee did not taste well and I had to wonder if it was my experience or the coffee itself. I was not going to do a negative review without giving La Plata another chance. Unfortunately my son and daughter went to La Plata five minutes before it closed and was told by the same barista that we are closing and refused them service. Originally I thought her outfit was cute but it seems that the military look is representative of her confrontational attitude towards customers that inconvenience her. Sorry La Plata. There are so many coffee shops in this town so I will find a Latte elsewhere from a friendly barista. I recommend others do the same until you pick better employees. read more

Two drinks charged $3.50 for oat milk, for oat milk!!! It wouldn't let me do one and a half stars so I rounded up seriously I like these people.
