It's Sunday morning and I want a little treat. A donut maybe a scone and I've heard plenty about Dulce River so I thought I'd give it a try. From the outside you can see the menu. On the inside it's lots of tables with bright yellow chairs. There is a woman behind the counter (I think she was wearing a wounded warrior tshirt) she was helping another customer. I was standing where she was packaging two donuts. She didn't even acknowledge me, didn't look up from what she was doing, didn't say hello or I'll be right with you. NOTHING! I thought to myself "well I'm already in here so I might as well order, but I'll never come back. They lost a customer. She was rude and unfriendly to the young girl in the ketchup tshirt that helped me. Threw a recycling item in the trash and behind the counter was a mess. The scone was okay.

If I could give this place a zero rating, I would. Unfriendly service and rude. Save your time and don't try this place.

But we seriously crave the exquisite Roman style "pizza" on focaccia, and the home-made grahams. While it is a walk-up shop, there are usually a couple available stools outside to enjoy your purchase on site. You can tell the staff are also in love with the menu - they are so friendly and knowledgable and happy to talk about their favorites, too. This is a business obviously grown from passion. I ordered many treats for myself and bestie. One pastry that caught my eye was the classic butter croissant dough with activated charcoal, glazed blood oranges, and blood orange curd. I'm not sure if this is only a seasonal item. The colors are beautiful! It was quite sweet, however the blood orange tartness aided in the flavors giving it a bit of tartness. The Boston Cream Cruffin looked mighty tasty. It's made with their signature croissant dough rolled up and filled with vanilla pastry cream and dipped in dark chocolate ganache. I'm having this for dessert tonight. Pumpkin bread Jam bun Espresso machine where they craft yummy drinks. I ordered an iced americano.

The gravy has a little kick which we loved. Normally we don't eat that much German food, but we LOVE this place. The apple strudel with pecans on top is outstanding, my favorite dessert there. My second favorite is the Oreo cheesecake. I went back again for a second time mostly because the owner personally replied to my last review and wanted me to try the experience again. I respected him for doing that so I made sure to come back next chance I had. The owner Michael went out of his way to make sure everything was okay and make sure my experience turned out great. I really appreciate the fact that even though they are busy, this business still cares about the experience of their customers and their reputation. The owner greeted me, apologized about the last experience and shook my hand and made sure the experience was flawless. I respect this man and the business and I will be back and bring all my friends too.

It is definitely out of the way, but worth it to be able to try something new. Albuquerque is obviously not known for its selection of German food but this is it if you're looking for it. I would describe this as a bakery / specialty grocery store / eatery. They have a variety of baked goods, including strudel and whole cakes. They also have a lunch menu with German delicacies and some grocery items that you can pick up to go. I came out of time where I wasn't super hungry and was only there for a sweet treat, but I would definitely like to eventually go back and try some of the savory foods. I tried the coconut strudel, and it was very good. Exactly what you would want. They had a handful of other flavors and even whole ones that you could buy to go.

The owner, Bella, was very friendly and gave us tips on other spots to check out around town. What really stood out is that they don't use seed oils or processed ingredients. You can actually taste the difference. Everything feels lighter and fresher. We tried Terry Bradshaw's favorite - the crème brulee croissant. It was creamy, flaky, and worth the hype. The pistachio cronut was another winner. They bake it not fry it, yet it was perfectly crispy. The cronut also came in Madagascar Vanilla and chocolate fillings. Each pastry was also topped with edible flowers. On top of all this, it came in this cute little Louis Vuitton-style cloth to-go bag that made the whole experience feel extra fancy. Highly recommend stopping by if you are at Sawmill Market.

But few things make me happier than seeing mom and pop places do what they do well and i am super psyched when others contribute to their success.
