I called to make a pedicure appt for 5:30pm. I got in at 5:30 on the dot. The lady didn't start on my toes until 6pm...... 45 minutes later at my toes STILL are t painted & she's working on someone's nails. No communication on "I have to finish this I'll be right back" or "let me finish your toes before I finish this person nails". The other owners had there own things and when they sold the place I thought it would Be better but I'm NEVER coming back to this shop. I'm so disappointed because I've been coming to this place for years & only one person does my brows. read more

I went to Star Nails because three nails were in need of repair. I was willing to pay for the repair but the owner approached me out of nowhere while the technician was repairing the damaged nails just to explain I was outside of the 15 day warranty. Well one, she was wrong...I was well within the warranty and had the cash app payment to prove it and two, why assume I wasn't ready or willing to pay for the repair?! Additionally, I was unable to return when the damage occurred on day 3 due to being away on vacation. i won't be returning to Star Nails, I don't appreciate being treated in that manner. This nail salon does not even deserve one star. I typically do not do bad reviews, but this is necessary. I've been to this nail salon several times, and I've given them the benefit of the doubt. This was the last straw. I came in for a soak, cut down and gel manicure. The man at the front desk pointed me to a nail tech trainee. She worked on my nails for TWO hours. Overcompensated with talk to make up for her lack of skill. Did not remove all of the acrylic and then left my nails uneven, and dull. Your trainees should not be working on patrons who have asked for a specific service. Star Nails needs to do better! Instead of walking past and smiling in my face, ask how my service was. PISS POOR!! I will be returning for full refund and a fresh gel manicure. read more

I used to go to this nail salon years ago,but I have since moved on! However, I was in the area and gave it a shot. I was serviced very quickly, so no complaints there! However, I didn't like that because I was getting a regular manicure, they didn't have a good color selection for polishes. My technician, Ann offered me a gel manicure and told me that it lasts longer and doesn't chip. I had heard this before, so this wasn't a surprise. However, they had a LOT more colors to choose from in the gel polishes. She told me that they have more colors in the gel polish! This was annoying to me because I feel you should have equal polishes for both manicures. But if I choose to get a manicure here again, I will just bring my own! But for the most, the experience here was nice. The prices were average for Bowie, so that wasn't a surprise. It is very nice and bright in this salon and the staff is very friendly. Great place, just bring your own polish for a basic manicure! read more

I usually am not one to complain about services because people are busy but this experience with star nails was terrible. I arrived an hour AFTER the opening time for a full set acrylic manicure, The person who does full sets wasn't even at work yet and they told me I had to wait an hour, i was fine with that. I come back after an hour and they're still not there. 20 minutes later he arrives, and goes to someone else who was there way after me. 15 minutes later they seat me. As he's doing my nails he's stopping and talking to a coworker of his and not even paying attention to the drill for filling my nails which made the process a lot longer and resulted in my finger bleeding. As he's doing my nails he stops again to go wax another persons eyebrows and then comes back to me without even washing his hands. LITERALLY THE WORST ! So I went in and asked for coffin shaped nails and I received semi-oval ( every nail is crooked & uneven barely an oval) then she CUT me YES SHE CUT ME...... TWICE. I WAD LITERALLY BLEEDING & I was in so much pain. When I asked to go wash my hands she told me no that I had to wait while blood is literally dripping down my finger. Then somehow she scraped the top of 4 of my fingers. There us acrylic powder all over the back of my finger. The rhinestones are misplaced it was just AWFUL. I went in for a gel manicure. I had an appointment for noon, was put in a chair at 12:15 and a file hit my nails at about 12:20. The good: no cuts, bleeding, or infections. The bad: basically everything else. I don't usually write bad reviews, but this place really annoyed me. The girl assigned to me brought out her instruments in an old pencil box marked "Linda." Was her name Linda? I have no idea. She never introduced herself. I couldn't tell if the instruments were clean or not. I didn't see a single bowl or container of that blue stuff you frequently see being used as disinfectant. When she told me to go wash my hands after she filed my nails, there was one sink with one nail brush. The nail brush had obviously been used, a lot. Did I use the nail brush? Hell no. Gross. (I would like to take this opportunity to point out that I am in no way a germaphobe, but come on, yuck). This girl talked the entire time and gesticulated a lot. While she was gesticulating, she couldn't work on my nails. I had already told her that I was there on my lunch break from work but she spent at least half the time yacking and flailing around while I sat there staring at her, then the clock, then her again. I understand that lunch times can be busy and there may be a wait, but this wasn't a wait issue, this was just inconsiderate. This takes me to one of the things that annoyed me most. The girl mentioned working on some paper for business school that was due that night. I said something to the effect of, "oh I remember that, I don't miss it." She says, "oh you are in business school?" and I said, "uh no, but I went to law school." If I could only go back in time and retract that statement... She spent the rest of the appointment asking me about all of her traffic tickets. Tacky. And not very fun for me. I told her I don't do traffic law but that didn't stop her. My favorite part was how she spent 10 minutes telling me that she shouldn't have gotten a ticket because her son was in the back seat. What? There were stretches of time between coats when my hands were in the UV thing and she couldn't be bothered to actually turn it on because she was too busy trying to describe a botched left turn. Near the end of the appointment she stopped talking about her traffic violations. Instead, I got to hear about that naked survival show and the fact that some girl on the show stepped in the guy's diarrhea. I have never in my life heard the word diarrhea uttered in any type of salon. Gross, but whatever. We were almost done and I kept glancing at the clock trying to get her to move it along so I could get back to work. She finally finished up, no massage, no lotion. At one point she rubbed the top of my hand for about 15 seconds like she was trying to warm it up, that was it. It reminded me of when the guy on 101 Dalmatians brought that runt puppy back to life by rubbing it briskly. Except if my hand was the puppy it would have just stayed dead. So now we are done with the manicure. I go up with her to pay and give her my card. She runs it and I see there is no place for a tip (yes, I was still going to leave one, because I'm a sucker). I ask her if the other copy will have a place and she says, "No, you should have told me!" No, lady, you should have told me, don't loudly admonish me after a sub par manicure. I had no cash, so she yelled at someone in the back for a minute and then told me she could run my card again and the minimum was $5. Whatever, fine. When I got to the car I saw that my pinky nail was lumpy and thick, the polish ran off the nail and onto my finger. There was also a piece of something that was stuck in the clear coat of my ring finger nail and the ends of my nails were rough. I had to file them all when I got home, I also managed to file out the random extra bit on my ring finger. I decided to wait to write the review and see how long the manicure lasted. Less than a week. On day 4 both pinky nails are peeling off. I really hate to be a jerk, but this was completely disappointing. It will definitely be worth driving farther down the road to a different salon. read more

I went here last Tuesday 6/11/19 for a full set of acrylics with gel polish, by Friday 6/15/19 my nails were already falling off and they were all off completely by Saturday 6/16/19. I am really disappointed because they looked really nice and they cost $50, I expected them to last at least two weeks. I wasn't even doing anything with my nails besides typing at work, I have no idea why they came off so easily and so quickly. I wish I could give 0 stars. My sister and I have been going to this salon for over a year, and they've gotten really popular in my community. However, as their business increases, their customer service decreases. The workers here are rude, impatient and always try to charge extra for things that were never a extra fee. They no longer use clean utensils when doing manicures and pedicures (one of the workers argued with me when I requested her to use utensils out of a fresh pack and not the one she just used on another client--for obvious reasons), they reuse wax sticks and paper, the floor is dirty, and their materials are cheap (old nail polish and the acrylic cracks in a few days). They used to be the best salon in the area and because of this, I always try to give them another chance but I am fed up and will no longer give them my business. I recommend the nail salon by Safeway in Fairways (also in Bowie), they are clean, pleasant and even offer cookies and champagne while you're being serviced. I went there yesterday after waiting 3 hours (although I made a appointment) and was extremely happy with the service and my results. I refuse to go to Star Nails ever again where I am treated as a pest, when I am a paying customer. P. S. Billy I hope you read this, I have been a client specifically to you during this time and I was dismayed at how you have been treating me as well as your other clients. I gave 3 stars simply because of the convenience of the location and the fact that I walked in and immediately was served. Unfortunately, my experience goes downhill from there. Upon sitting in the pedicure chair, I asked to see designs and the technician said, "Oh no, I don't know how to do designs and the person who does isn't here right now". I decided to ride it out because I have a small child and rarely get to take time for myself. From the start to finish, the technician spoke to her boyfriend and others in the salon about where they were going to eat when they left. She did take the time to show me various colors to interest me and did a good job on the actual pedicure. Sadly, after 5 days, the polish has begun to chip. I remember pedicures lasting 2 weeks or longer so less than a week is disappointing. I read the other reviews and decided to still give them a shot but now, I'll find a different salon and drive a little further out to do so. I hope they improve soon, I really want them to win. read more

I went to this salon 3 months ago, only because it was next door to my lash salon. Thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. The girl (very young girl) who was asked to service me, actually didn't want to. She told the attendant, in vietnamese, that she was tired. Well, she ran water in a dirty foot bowl, I pointed to the dirt floating in the water out to her. Then she cleaned it, she was pissed. I'd explained to the attendant that I am diabetic and that I needed someone who could deal with that. Well, I had to remind her not to cut my cuticles, her head swung around at me like in the exorcist. She cut her eyes at me and went back to work on my right foot. Needless to say there was no more conversation between us (there hadn't been any in the first place). I got a gel manicure (which is a long process) while she monitored me, rather than talk to me, the little b**** read a book. I usually tip in the salon 25%, well her's was under 10. I mentioned this to the manager who looked at me as if he didn't understand, as he processed my credit card. This happened on March 26th, I went to my Podiatrist and I couldn't wear a shoe on my right foot until April 29th. I'll never go there again and neither will I recommend it to anyone else. read more
