I remember when star mix was opening how exciting it was to get a new cuisine to the area. There's absolutely nothing like it anywhere near us. The gyros are spot on, and a good deal. I recommend the lamb gyro. I have gotten the chicken platter before, and was not a fan of the rice, lacked seasoning in my opinion. Small little place that's definitely busy. Maybe 5 tables in this small restaurant. One outside. We grabbed a lamb gyro. Never had green peppers before, so not a fan and definitely well done and dry. Coming from Ithica to Upton and wanted something different from traditional bar food. The owners are very nice. The food was delicious and everything was fresh. The gyro was well seasoned and delicious. The beef shwarma with rice was exactly what I was looking for. The baklava was not too sweet and perfectly delicate. They were out of spinach pie but I got to watch the wife make it from scratch. I bet it's delicious as the owner said it's VERY popular. I could see why, she was so careful with all of the steps and their feta cheese was delicious so I could only imagine.l the spinach pie. The food here is amazing, fresh, healthy, cooked to order, the staff are nice, the portions are a good size, there is parking. So don't look any further. They were also super nice and split a gyros dinner into two containers for my children, and added the sauces on the side. Best dinner in Oneonta In Oneonta for a week of baseball. Rain delay at 8:15 pm on a Sunday night. Not much open & came across this treasure. Greeted with a warm welcome and a menu. I ordered the chicken shawarma with rice. Plate was overflowing with goodness. Chicken was tender and tasty. Rice was nice and moist. A fresh side salad was also included. More food then I could eat. This place was by far my favorite place to eat in Oneonta! It's a small restaurant so most of the time I ordered for pick up. The owners are so kind and generous. I never waited more than 10 minutes for my food, and it was DELICIOUS!!! Perfect meal for a college student, and their prices are respectable! If not for the positive Yelp reviews, I definitely would have never stopped, and I probably would have walked out after looking inside. It is dated and not very clean looking or attractive inside, but I was just interested in grabbing a gyro to go. The mixed gyro (chicken and beef) was really flavorful with a nice ratio of seasoned meat and crisp vegetables. Very good middle-eastern food, especially considering that it is in Oneonta. The lentil soup and the hummus are both standouts. I also like the falafel. Warning: the pitas are made with a kind of a generic lettuce and tomato with mayonaisse-y white sauce accompaniment, so they are a little disappointing if you are used to eating Lebanese (etc) food in cities that have more options (or even in Rhinebeck!).
