Unfortunately, we waited quite a while to be acknowledged, while the bartender seemed much more interested in chatting with who I'm assuming were locals sitting at the bar. Eventually, an older woman came around the corner and asked her to come over and help us. The bartender rolled her eyes and then made a very inappropriate gesture, pretending to put a gun in her mouth with her fingers, before walking over to us with a smile as if nothing had happened. My husband and I own a bar/restaurant ourselves, so we completely understand that everyone has bad or frustrating moments while working in this industry. But I felt like this was completely unacceptable behavior, especially right in front of customers. It's certainly not something we would accept from someone working in our establishment. We had our drinks and left shortly after. It's too bad because the tavern seemed like it could have been a really fun place to spend the night, but after witnessing that interaction, we were completely put off and didn't feel like staying.

We waited about an hour for our food, with no check-ins, no water refills, and no acknowledgment of the delay, even though our server walked past our table multiple times. At one point, I had to get up and find someone to talk to. I asked a man near the front for a manager, explained we had been waiting an hour, and pointed out our table. No one ever came over afterward to follow up. We were later told there was a large party, which is understandable--but that's not something customers or servers can control. A simple check-in or acknowledgment would have made a big difference. Instead, we were told we "should have said something," despite no one coming to the table. At the end, we waited again for the check, and when my daughter calmly tried to explain our frustration, the server spoke over her and said, "I'm almost 50--I've been doing this since I was 17," which came across as rude and unprofessional. The food was good, but the lack of communication, attentiveness, and management involvement made this a disappointing experience.

We live in Texas and were in Cooperstown for a baseball tournament, which gave us another excuse to stop by. I had enjoyed Ommegang's Belgian-style beers for years, but this visit gave me the opportunity to explore more of their lineup. I was impressed by the variety of styles available, and everything I sampled was exceptionally well crafted. The food was excellent as well. The poutine was a standout and tasted every bit as authentic as the poutine I've enjoyed in Canada. It's not always easy to find great food at a brewery, but Ommegang delivers on both fronts. The setting is truly remarkable. Located on a 140-acre former hop farm just outside Cooperstown, the property feels more like a Belgian monastery than a brewery. The beautiful buildings, open spaces, and wooded surroundings create an experience that is worth the trip all by itself. The grounds are impeccably maintained and provide a perfect backdrop for enjoying a pint. Having been open since 1997, it's clear that Brewery Ommegang has had decades to refine both its beer and its operation. Everything feels polished, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. Hands down, this is one of the coolest breweries I have ever visited.
