I began looking for Mazda's after my car was totaled. I first test drove the 2019 CX-5 at a dealership in San Diego and fell in love with the car. I was able to get a great quote from the San Diego dealer that I was happy with, but wanted to look for deals closer to home. I started to get quotes from local Mazda dealers in LA, and was contacted by Kyle Groom in internet sales from Star Mazda. Off the bat, the quote I received from Kyle was competitive amongst the LA dealers. After informing Kyle about the quote from the San Diego dealer, he was able to match it and save me the drive! I made an appointment two days later to see the car and move forward. I was simply dreading shopping for a car. Before I ended up in Glendale at Star Mazda, I had been to a few other places and either their prices were too high or the salespeople were too pushy and didn't listen. None of that happened at this little Mazda dealership in Glendale. We arrived shortly before closing time and Brian stayed an hour and a half after closing for me. I know that's probably common practice but I appreciated it. I test drove a couple cars, and was looking at a couple that were in my price range... I was not excited about them, though. Brian took the time to look up some other cars I didn't know they had on the lot and one of those turned out to be the one. By that time it was late and it was tired so I said I'd come back the next day after sleeping on it, wanting to do business with a fresh mind. I live an hour and a half away, but it was worth the drive to deal with friendly, helpful salespeople. When I arrived the next day, Brian asked me what i wanted my payments to be like and he found a car loan for me that was just what I wanted. It was surprisingly easy and simple to buy a car here! There was one thing that would have been points off if they hadn't handled it so professionally: the day after I got the new car home I noticed a dent in the wheel and some tears in the rubber of the tire. I texted photos to Brian and he responded immediately! They of course fixed it for me and Jon (I think he's a manager) actually seemed embarrassed that the car had left the lot without that getting fixed. I just really appreciated how accommodating and professional these guys were. It seemed like they really wanted to be helpful, and I was given so much attention, time and consideration which was nice because it's not what you expect in the car business! It pleases me that what I expected to be a dreadful process turned out to be quite pleasant. I wish more car dealerships were like this one! I was in the market for the rather unpleasant reason of someone destroying my car and causing me quite a bit of pain and suffering. I recently bought a Mazda CX-30 from Star Mazda. I had no issue with purchasing process and am happy with the car itself. A few days ago I received the license plates from DMV, while replacing the temporary plates to new ones, to my surprise I noticed the holes they drilled on the front bumper are not even. One hole is almost 1/2" higher than the other. This makes my front plate look crooked. With a little care and attention, this could have been done correctly. It seems to me Star Mazda has no respect for 30k vehicles and the customers paying their hard earned money. It maybe a minor issue, but I am not happy that finding negative surprises on my car after sealing the deal. I will not go back to this dealer for the future maintenance. read more

After having this vehicle for a year, I would definitely not recommend this dealership to anyone. 1. My squeaky/whining fan belt issue was never addressed. They were never able to "reproduce the problem," but refused to actually take a look at the belt tensioner that I suspected was the problem (based on my own research and previous experience). 2. When I mentioned the belt issue during my first oil change, the service manager immediately said that there would be a deductible for repairs under the warranty. That's not what I was told when the car was sold to me, and it's not what the Mazda literature says (http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayPage.action?pageParameter=accoladesCertified). It obviously deterred me from pursuing the matter (and others) more aggressively, which was likely the intended effect. 3. The cruise control on my vehicle intermittently stops working (50/50). This started right after my second oil change (performed by Star), which was just before the 1 year "Certified" warranty ended. Since I live in LA, I didn't notice this until I was able to use that feature on a trip out of town-- after the warranty expired. 4. Just over a year into this vehicle, two tires needed to be replaced, and I drive under the average 12k per year. The other two tires were at 5 and 6 bars out of 11. These are things you expect to happen when you buy a $5000 used car that is 10+ years old. This is NOT what you expect when you buy a 3 year old "Certified" pre-owned Japanese vehicle for $15,000. read more

I recently ordered a Miata and worked with Kyle on a direct order to the factory in order to get the trim level, options, etc. I wanted. He was great to work with! There was a few months wait due to ordering from overseas which was normal and no problem for me (its my dream car, I can hang in there!), and then with COVID a bit of a delay for the car getting to the dealership. Kyle kept me up to date so I never had to worry, and I wasn't in a hurry since I wasn't exactly driving much. When I came in to take delivery of the Miata everything was straightforward, I got a great deal on the car and financing, and he even drove it home for me since I'm re-adjusting to driving stick and had a bit of a distance to go. They also left the plastic on per my request so I could detail my new baby myself. I really appreciated those extra touches that made me feel like they care about my business. The only thing I'd say is that the finance dept will try and sell you the extras (warranty, prepaid service, etc.) which any dealer will of course, but it's a pretty soft sell at Star, they break it all down for you, and they'll work with you if you want a particular amount of years on things. Personally, I did go with some of the extras and I feel good about it to keep the car in great shape and my own peace of mind. Overall, a better experience than I've had at any other dealership. I am so overjoyed with my new car as I get better and better at driving it! Do yourself a favor and test drive a Miata next time you're there ;) PS - In light of COVID-19 the dealership is having everyone wear masks, they seemed to be sanitizing regularly from what I saw, there's hand sanitizer available as well as outdoor seating, and they don't come with you for test drives. Lots of good measures being taken, and I felt the risk of being around others at the dealership was mitigated as best they could. read more

During my purchase I was told that I was going to have a free system update every so often even if I'm out of warranty. I had my car serviced here several months ago for the Mazda3 dash board recall. I also at this time had a tire losing pressure and an issue wherein my headlights dimmed and flickered when braking at freeway speeds. I asked for my tire to be inspected and showed David, the customer service agent I spoke with, a Mazda forums article on my specific headlight issue that suggested rebooting the IDS and recalibrating the PCM. Flash forward to three days later, and Mazda still has my car because they have told me they have not had time to diagnose the headlight issue and would not try the documented fix (a very quick and easy computer update). Eventually, they did wind up following my suggestion (which their tech independently found "on his own") and this corrected the error - though many days later. They also tried to charge me $150 for this "diagnosis", and told me they were giving me a discount of 50%. I wonder, if I were a man, would they have looked at the documentation I showed them genuinely, which would have significantly reduced the amount of time they held my car? When I received my car back, the interior was left filthy from the dashboard replacement. David also assured me there was nothing wrong with my tire as it had been thoroughly inspected, and they believed it could just be a slowly leaking tire valve. Two days later, I was left stranded with a completely flat tire which, upon inspection, had three nails in it, two of which looked like they had been there a very long time. Lastly, David told me when I left that my alignment camber would need to redone. I spoke with two different independent and trusted mechanics, who both told me that would never ever be needed on my car model unless in the most dire of circumstances. read more

This review is for the service, specifically, oil change department. I scheduled an appointment early in the morning because I had things to do in the afternoon. I bring my car in for service a few minutes before my appointment time and was greeted and offered a beverage. The service person who greeted was friendly and inviting. I leave the car and opt in for the carwash, which is one of the reasons I brought the car here (kill 2 bird with one stone). He informs me it will take from 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and a half, which is still a bit long but nothing out of the ordinary. An hour and a half passes by and I'm waiting to get called to pick up my car. It's 2 hours now, so I ask the service person how much longer. Turns out they were barely starting the oil change 2 HOURS into me waiting. Why do they even have appointment times if they are not going to work on the car until 2 HOURS later? I inform the service person I no longer want the car wash, I did not want to wait another hour for that, and somehow, someway, miraculously my car is ready 10 minutes later. Not only did I waste 2 hours of my day, I missed my other appointment because I did not think it would take 2 HOURS PLUS just to change my oil. You can bet I am no longer going to be taking my car here for service, as I don't think 2+ hours is a reasonable wait time, especially for what they are charging you. read more
