I needed some larger sized labels printed for my hobby business and chose Staples because it was closest to me and I had a coupon. I have not had issues shopping there other than frequent outages of office supplies, but that's the back to school rush for ya. The young lady at the print desk was kind and as I handed her my label stock for printing, a loud and rude woman interjected herself into my transaction and said they would not print labels for me because I had adhesive paper. She explained that they had machines ruined in the past because of the material and I would have to provide brand information for the print job. That's fair. I had loaded my three children into the car and drove over, travelling anywhere with kids is not fun, so I asked if I could bring up the paper information on my phone to show her instead of driving all the way back home and back to the store again. She said no because I could just lie about it and ruin their machines. WTF?
Her nametag said "print shop supervisor" so I was a little surprised how this ill-mannered woman with zero customer service skills became a supervisor. You know how there are people in the world who have some small amount of authority in life and use it to build themselves up while lording their power over others? That's her. Print shop Nazi. Staples is the place she likes to push people around. It's her grade school playground and she likes to pick on customers. So, I asked her for a manager to which she proceeded to say over her headset, "I need someone here with higher authority who is willing to take full responsibility for this print job if it ruins the machines" to which one person that I'm pretty sure had zero authority came forward and said "no" after she bullied him into submission with her longwinded explanation on why she would not do it.
Yay.
I had two choices, drive down the road to the next print shop at Office Depot or go back home and get the cover sheet info for my labels. I FOOLISHLY loaded up my three children and DROVE BACK HOME to get the required information for print nazi lady with the face that looks like she has been bitter and angry for 30 years. I had a coupon and I wanted to use it, plus the drive was faster than going to Office Depot.
It didn't matter because when I came back, she still refused to accept my "proof I'm not a liar" anyway because the paper did not say "laser" on it. (It only took about 1 minute of looking up the specs. online to see that the manufacturer says the stock was great for laser printing and could withstand the temperatures required for that type of job or printer had she taken the time to not be a bi...anyway, this could have been handled so much better! )
She could have actually been helpful. Had she been proactive or customer-oriented, she could have tried to serve me, the customer. She could have said, "I don't see the information on the cover sheet, lets look it up." Instead, she was a bitch. I've not seen such a miserable person in a long time who was so unwilling to help me. It was obvious her rigid brand of ignorance couldn't allow it. didn't matter what I produced, no evidence would have convinced her to not be rude and dismissive. I left. I drove across town to Office Depot where I was kindly helped and my print job was completed. Way to go Staples, I hope she's worth it. Never again. read more
