Regarding Staples located at 700 El Camino, Menlo Park, watch out for a scam the manager tries to pull. The manager dashed out of his office after we finished paying for two different kinds of office chairs today and I was already loading one of them in the car. He told my wife (and later to me) that we should buy insurance for the chairs because look what happened to his office chair in only 6 months and the quality of them is no longer good. A large part of the headrest had missing "fabric." Quite an unusual place for severe wear! I asked the cashier if they have a quota to meet for selling the insurance. When I need business items I go to Staples as this is the closest one to me. They give a credit if you belong to their Rewards program for turning in your printers ink cartridges to be recycled and then give you a credit voucher that expires within a couple of months. This is for the online store process. Ordered a $500 buck office printer since there was no in store pickup for the item. Placed order,got conformation for delivery for next day. No printer. Called next day and asked where is printer. They don't know as order is still processing. Do you know when it will ship? Tomorrow? A month from now? Nope. Went back on line and it says printer is now out of stock. Went to Office Depot and got another printer. Called Staples to cancel and they said they can't as the order is still processing. A few days before, I entered Staples to pick up a Brother toner cartridge, and I saw this end cap displaying Christmas gifts. The cute Starbucks latte car cups looked nice so I bought two of them since they were only $14 each and came with a hot cocoa packet and then I bought one 28 ounce nicely wrapped box of butter cream chocolates. They would make nice gifts I thought. I gave one of the latte car cups to my friend and she put coffee in it but it only dribbles out it. Even when you tip it completely upside down it just drips out and does not work properly. We then took it to Starbucks in Menlo Park on Santa Cruz Ave. and the manager said this is not a real Starbucks cup it's a fake. A knockoff!!!! It doesn't even work properly. I was embarrassed and took the remaining coffee cup which was still nicely wrapped back to Staples and I also took the chocolates back thinking that they must be fake too ! Only two cashiers were working and it was quite a long time before we got served but I scrambled in my purse but could not find the darn receipt. In that case I said I would accept a store credit because I will be back here so it amounted to about $28 total. To my surprise they were willing to offer me one dollar for each item in credit since I did not have my receipt. I said ONE DOLLAR was ridiculous and that without a receipt all stores give you a store credit. The manager named Chris came and told me that was not the case with Staples and that without a receipt they would give me one dollar each for the two items. I was shocked beyond belief. A warning to anyone shopping at Staples. Keep your receipt because otherwise you get almost nothing back. I went in the car and under the seat was the receipt so I was lucky. I went back and told them they are selling fake Starbucks latte plastic tall cups and Chris the manager just smirked and said that's not his job to remove fake items! I am never ever going back there again and I urge you to go somewhere else for your office supplies. read more

I had ordered something online and it didn't work out. So I decided to return it in the store. Big mistake!! When I went to the Menlo Park store a young guy helped me. He wasn't sure how to process the transaction so he called over his manager. I explained the situation again and gave him the order number. I told him it didn't fit his remark it looks like it's been used. I told him I did pull out a bracket and measured it against the item. I didn't appreciate his attitude towards returning an item. The worst Staples ever....DO NOT GO! We have a start-up tech company nearby and over the last year have been going to this Staples because the location is convenient. We've bought several new high end multi-task HP printers with the Staples extended warranty. Two failed within the first 30 days at critical times (we don't print or fax much, but when we do we need reliability). We returned them and they were replaced per the Staples warranty. We asked which printer would be a more reliable replacement; we swapped for two higher priced models they suggested and within days they also failed. Staples warranty in-hand we returned only to be questioned by the manager as to what we had done to cause such a reliable HP printer to fail; again we pushed for replacements and got them. This process was repeated two more times with both printers. Each time we were questioned as to what WE had to done wrong to cause the printers to fail. BTW: each time we had to buy a new extended Staples warranty for each printer, but were told not to worry swaps would be made within a day of bringing the printer to the store. On the last visit we noticed six or more printers just like the model we bought in the return/repair bin. We were told the manager had to approve all warranty returns, and he was out for two days. Finally I got a call from the manager "Juan" and said I wanted my money back. He declined to do so, saying that their store was having too many returns on the HP printers and needed further approval. That was 30 days ago. BTW: as I'm leaving the store I watched a Staples salesmen demoing the printer model I'd bought and returned several times, saying: "this is a great printer, very reliable, best we have...". I've called my credit card company and we're trying to get the charges reversed. This location and its management are dishonest at best, they should be turned over to the CA Attorney General's office. read more

Every time I go there tends to be more staff members than customers. Yet the last time I had a hard tme finding someone to help me find... paper. That's right, all I needed was simple, lined paper. How hard can it be? Well, I checked the 3 or 4 aisles I thought would have it. Then I checked them again. Finally I tried to find a staff member and ended up waiting for the copy center employee to be free and he showed me where the paper was. The paper was certainly in one of the aisles I expected, but instead of half an aisle filled with choices of line spacing or grids or number of sheets... there was one option, hidden on the bottom shelf. I left with my paper and a lesson in how digital the world has become. read more

My last visit here was a few weeks ago. The staff is usually friendly and helpful here, and I normally give it 3-4 stars. However, on this last visit, I had an unfortunate experience, hence this poor rating. I came here to laminate a school photo for my son, which we bought from his east coast group tour. We bought one of the panoramic photos from the official photographer, unlaminated as we weren't sure what we would do with it yet. We finally decided to go get it laminated ourselves. Looking around for places that do laminating, I was happy to find that my usual Staples had laminating services, at very reasonable prices, $1.49 for a standard letter size document. I brought in the photo, and the technician placed it in an oversized laminate sheet, turned on the machine, and asked me to come back in 5 minutes as it took some time to heat up and do that laminating. Fine, I walked around the store for a few minutes. When the time came, the technician asked me to come over, then apologized that something strange happened. Our photo was damaged as the left half of the photo was half-melted with circular blotches over that half, distorting the image underneath. Fortunately, my son was in the middle of the photo where is face was unaffected, by half of his classmates on the left half are now unrecognizable. The right half of the photo came out normal though. The technician apologized for the incident and didn't charge me of course. He didn't know what happened and asked if my photo was on special paper. It was standard Kodak professional paper, which should have worked fine. I don't blame the technician, as he probably did the usual job. We don't know what really happened. I would suggest others to be cautious of the laminating service at this Staples, until they can verify that the machine is working properly. If you don't mind trying it, and if you can provide a backup to try again in case your document gets damaged (just print out another one), then fine. But if it's a costly document that can't be replaced (mine was just a $25 photo print we purchased), I would suggest getting your lamination done at another place just to be safe. read more

Went in around noon on the Sunday after Christmas, and they didn't have any of the weekly print ads available, and not all the week's specials had been labeled on the shelves, so I had to look up the specials on my phone (yay to Staples corporate for having a mobile-specific site -- it made using my phone for this tolerable even with the tiny screen). Caryn in the copying/printing department is so considerate. I hate machines. She helped me set up a copy machine to do a page reduction so all the type fit on a standard sheet. She did not leave me until she showed me how to complete the entire process: IE showed me the OK button and then another button I had to push before starting to copy. Those things always flummox me. I felt like Caryn wanted to be truly helpful and had tons of patience for a machine-a-phobe like me. read more

I needed business cards for an event in a few hours and had to find a place that would cheaply and quickly print me some decent cards. I looked at a couple other office stores but Staples had the best selection of templates, very easy ordering, and a great price - $8.50 for 200 cards. I was able to find a nice template, enter my info, and make some changes to the font and colors quickly and easily. They were ready when I got to the store a few hours later and look great - nothing fancy but I didn't need that. The store itself was pretty empty, just one person working the copy and shipping counter, but it was still very fast. My only recommendation would be to send customers an email to let them know when it's printed - they said usually 4 hours and that was fine for me, but I'm guessing it was ready much sooner unless there were lots of orders and it's nice to be sure before you head out if it's definitely ready. Had I needed it under 4 hours I would have called to see when it would be ready. If they fall apart in a day I'll update my review, but otherwise I am very pleased and will use them again when needed! read more

My husband came into this Menlo Park Staples (Saturday, July 18, 2020) around 3 pm, trying to purchase a graphing calculator for my daughter. To buy the calculator at this Staples, you have to pick up a cardboard tag that you can hand to the cashier. (Supposedly, this means the calculator is available and the cashier should grab one of the calculators from their storage when you hand them the cardboard tag). However, when the cashier asked the manager (bald, Caucasian man), the manager blatantly denied my dad of the calculator. My husband politely asked the manager if the calculator was available in a different color, but the manager repeatedly said "I'm not going to sell this to you", despite his questioning why. Finally, my husband left the store, still unaware as to why he couldn't make the purchase. The manager was behaving xenophobic towards my husband, which is completely unacceptable. read more

STAPLES DOCUMENT SHREDDING IS NOT SECURE! We took papers to be shredded and the next day, we were victims of identify theft. We are still dealing with this months later!!!! Go to a shredding event where they shred the documents right in front of you. Staples does not shred it while you watch which is the only truly secure way to shred documents. read more
