Con-artists. I wanted a mat for under my computer chair. Looked at the websites for nearby stores to see who had them in stock so I could go get one in person. Landed on Staples. The mat was listed at $34.99 + shipping, or "free pickup in store if you order online". I didn't intend to order online, only to see if it was in stock, but when I looked at the item description it said "Get $3 off by ordering online, and picking up in store" so that's what I did - $32.99 + tax, no shipping. When I arrived at the store, there was a small line at the service desk and clearly no gigantic mat there waiting. I walked to the back of the store to see where they were kept, and found the exact mat I'd ordered... on the shelf with a price tag of $27.99. Not a sales tag, and not an old tag... As I was standing there, a guy came and grabbed the mat from in front of me and brought it to the counter. When I got to the counter, I asked about the price difference. I was told "that's the online price, for shipping" and I said it was not... shipping was billed separately. He then said it was a different product, which it was not, and he admitted. I'm not gonna lie, I went full "Karen" on these people. After asking for a manager, I eventually had 3 people talking to me, and they admitted ALL of the prices on the website are marked up over the store price! And that "pick up in store discount" is actually a markup over the regular in-store price on every single item. They guy behind me in line was older, wearing ACUs and had his daughter with him... I had offered to let him go ahead of me, since clearly this wasn't getting solved quickly, and he covered his daughters ears with his hands and said "F*ck these people, they're trying to f*ck you - I don't wanna spend my money here" and just left. The net result was a non-apology apology,and an offer to refund my card for the $32+tax and sell me the mat for the store price of $28+tax. I countered with wanting my $3 off, as promised... $25+ tax... because they'd admitted to running a scam, and it was the principle of the thing. Did I mention going "Full Karen"? They declined. I'm not often in a "Karen" kind of mood - I'm happy to eat a little crow, cut my losses, and walk away knowing that I'll never do business with a place again... but the level of con job that Staples corporate office has going is STAGGERING. They're pulling a literal "Bait and Switch" scam. So I reported it to the Massachusetts AG office of consumer affairs... Again, here's the scam. Staples is a place I have gone since I was very young. For the most part, I've generally had good experiences at Staples. This particular Staples has always been fabulous with great service, fully stocked shelves, and extremely efficient and precise print and copy services (I have used them a few times and have nothing but good things to say). It's a smaller store, but has recently been redone and has all the departments you would need to find in a store of this type, office supplies, computers, copy and print, office furniture, and odds and ends in between. The clearance section at any Staples, this store included, is always extremely eventful as well. Only complaint (why four stars instead of five) is that the receipt continues to read "145 Great Pond Road", when it should read "145 Great Road". Not sure why this has not been fixed, especially considering how many times I have called and spoken to management about it. Since there aren't many places in Acton to get computers, furniture, and office supplies, this is definitely a needed store in the area and I appreciate how particularly nice this location is. 4 stars. read more

Upping my review to 3 Stars. Since they allow electronic device recycling. Up to 5 a day. You can leave the batteries in. You can leave the cords attached. You can leave the hard drives in (though please erase them first). No questions asked recycling. No forms to fill out. No need to show ID. Before the holiday, I Emailed the print and marketing center a file I needed printed . Today, I came into my office with a voicemail that bypassed all the important questions I left in my email and essentially saying they can't help without the file. I had asked for price first and if it would be smarter to purchase the flyer prints in bulk. It then turned into an argument with the associate saying they don't do email orders. Ok, well how do I email you the file I need for same day printing, as advertised on your website? His response was, "I understand you may see that but we don't do that, and have never done that." Ok great, an associate refusing to help a customer- when I have used this service for our company many times. Guess I'll just go to chelmsford. Horrible customer service. Went yesterday's to buy a new printer. I was having trouble getting my own printer to recognize my wife's computer for scanning and figured it just be easier to have a printer for each of us. I grade myself a three out of 10 as far as computer ability. The tech gentleman (wish I knew his name) told me I didn't need to buy a new printer and told me how to go to the website and reload the printer drivers It worked! . You save me $150. I received 5 star assistance from Alex at the copy center services desk. I had files in a Dropbox that I needed to print. Alex spent 10 minutes helping me and problem solving around internet connection problems (eventually they hooked me up to the Ethernet at the tech desk). I am a newbie at Dropbox and could never have figured this out without his help. All staff was friendly and efficient. I highly recommend this location for your printing needs. read more

I went to staples online to find a printer and after comparing prices with Amazon I found that the pricing was pretty much the same at both places except that Staples offered a $15.00 discount for buying online and picking up at the store . I'm always up for saving money so I went for it! I hadn't been to Staples for years and couldn't remember if I was a rewards member so I gave my phone number and low and behold I was. Come to also find out that after purchasing the printer I had earned $25.00 's in rewards because my rewards didn't expire so in total I saved $35.00's plus the printer was on sale for 62% off . Now I'm happy until I get home and the printer malfunctioned right out of the box. Luckily I had purchased the four year protection plan that has great technical service that was right there with me helping with the setup over the phone and after 30 minutes the technician came to the conclusion that the printer was defective and told me to take it back to the store and get a replacement. I arrived at the store and Steve who is the head technician at the store was very polite and helpful. I had brought the last printer that they had so he called the closest store,which was unfortunately for me nine miles away in Burlington and asked them to put one aside for me for pick up. The printer was waiting for me and was exchanged, no questions asked and no problems. I can blame Staples for the issue with the printer because they don't make them they just sell them. All said and done the new, new printer works great and so far I'm a happy customer but it would be nice if hp had better quality control. read more

I was expecting a blank stare, but instead was directed right to where they were located! Boom! Now that is great technical service! I suppose with 'big companies' there's always going to be a time when somebody goes in and finds a problem. I just want to make note of the opposite. I had a special challenge, trying to find a printer that would actually work with the Kindle I'd purchased for my mother. After *hours* online with the 'experts' at Amazon ("There's no reason why it shouldn't work"), I decided to try bringing the damn thing into the local Staples and see if they could wrestle it to the ground. No expectations, just a lark really. Imagine the activity in my faith-in-humanity-o-meter when what *could* have been just another know-nothing (but wasn't!) circled over to lend a hand. And lend a hand he did. I'm not talking any five minute "here, try this one ma'am". No. In all fairness to employees who might be trying to offer extra help at a busy time, I admit it was really quiet and he had the luxury of putting in the extra time. However! My challenge was an impressively annoying one and this guy (let's call him 'Edin') went so far above and beyond, I felt like fam. He opened the box up, read through the v-e-r-y tedious instruction manuals (even *I* wasn't planning to go *that* far!!!), even reset the store's wireless settings to find a way to make the thing work. I've had *surgery* that was taken less seriously. Seriously. Now I can't say that he'll always be there when you are - I assume he eats & sleeps in between performing miracles. And I can't promise the store will always be as quiet as it was that Special Night. But I can promise this: if you make the trek, as I did, out to 145 Great Road in Acton, MA, you will be in the presence of Greatness. Or at least the presence of where Greatness Once Happened. If they weren't so close I would NEVER use it. The staff doesn't pick up the phone and they are most certainly not helpful. I have had a helpful salesperson once or twice, but for the most part- an absolute"last resort" for office supplies. I would gladly pay more for better service. My day started by calling the store. Seven minutes later, when nobody answered, I decided to get in my car and go get what I needed.I wanted to ensure that they had what I was looking for. While there, I proceeded to grab a large box [which nobody even offered to help me carry.] I had to go to the counter to ask for assistance and once received, the young sales clerk watched me hump my two big boxes to the counter. I also schlepped the boxes out to the car without an offer to help.The phone was "holding" the entire time I was there, with NOBODY answering, during my entire visit. Silly people thinking that someone will actually pick up. It was 10am on a Monday morning and it was dead in there. The two young men at the counter were discussing Dunkin Donuts orders, so that took some time. If you are the manager of this store- shame on you. read more

A gentleman who wore a manager badge stood around doing nothing He could have straightened some of the aisles, helped customers, swept the floor, assisted the cashiers who had a line of customers, or greeted customers as they enter the door I watched him behind my sunglasses and he just stared at people standing in the middle of an aisle the whole time I was there about 30 minutes The cashier is greeted people did their job sent people on their way and this guy just stood there, not testing some of the products nor assisting customers or even smiling at customers Meanwhile the cashiers and a couple of the floor clerks interacted with customers smiled at customers and greeted customers I would have given a higher reading but this gentleman made my sister and I feel uncomfortable as he just stood and stared at us and the other customers in the store Also all the associates wore clean black pants and he wore worn out dungarees-Is that any way for a manager to present a professional image to customers? read more

Unprofessional is too kind a word for the staff at this particular Staples. The first time I ventured in there, I walked through the door and the door alarms went off for whatever reason. The sales associate told me not to worry about it, that they'd been doing that all day. And then his co-worker walked by and goes, "They went off cuz you're so hot!" Wow. Just...wow. Guess he was out sick on sexual harassment training day. Today I reluctantly went in there again and approached the cash register with some supplies, where I was rung up by a pissy older woman who barked instructions at me while I was running my card through, like she thought I looked too stupid to use a keypad. Then when she saw that I had a reusable bag for my things, she forced me to bag them myself AND finish the transaction while she moved on to the next person. WTF?!!! If my office hadn't been completely out of pens, I would've told her to stuff them, then left. Never again. read more

This staples is smaller than most, so the selection is very limited. I have been unable to find what I was looking for on a couple if occasions and had to substitute,, although the UPS mailing center inside the building is VERY convenient. I went to this location on the Friday before labor day weekend for some unavoidable basics and the store was understandably busy. Staples, however had only 2 cahiers on duty and a line that went to the back of the store. Although I had allowed ample time for a standard to longer staples run, I did not have time for a 25 minute line and left without making my purchase. 2 stars for poor staff planning during a busy back to school weekend. read more

OMG! I just had the worst customer service experience in 10+ years at the Staples store in Acton. I ordered a calculator for my son because he said he needed it right away. This was done using an online order with 1-hour store pickup. Two hours later I showed up at the store because it was on my way home. First, there was barely any staff available to help customers. There was only one person at the register and they were a part of the junior staff. She tried to help me but passed me off to a more senior team member. That person looked confused and overwhelmed. About 5 minutes transpire with them running around. During that time 4 other customers showed up. At this point no one was at the registers to help customers. We patiently waited until one of the customers I let go ahead of me started yelling for someone to help her. This was several minutes more which is a long time with no one at the registers. Finally someone showed up. After she was helped, the same senior staff member proceeded to ask each person what they needed help with. When he got to me, I was standing there with several impulse items in my hand, water, headphones, candy, etc. This was in addition to the item I ordered online and was supposed to be ready. He then proceeded to ask me if I got an email that the item was ready. I said no. He then told me I shouldn't have showed up. He said this while I had about $30-$40 in items and 2 hours after I placed my online order. One other thing to mention. I had this item ordered from Amazon earlier in the day for next day delivery. I cancelled that order so that I could get the item same day from Staples. The item at Staples was more that $37 more expensive. This store failed to fulfill their 1-hour pickup service, alienated a long time Staples Rewards customer, and blew an opportunity to compete with Amazon and get more money. read more

I have received helpful, supportive, at times comical and always knowledgeable help from both Edin and Matt in the tech department at the Acton location. I knowingly pay more for some items because you can't replace customer service, and appreciate that STAPLES has techs worth going in to see. (Please don't ever quit....We need you!) A mixed bag. I was trying to return an item and there was a problem with their system that required a bit of the manager's time. The cashier, Jenny, was very friendly and pleasant, and apologized for the inconvenience. I wasn't upset at all, but it was nice to have her be so sweet and kind. The assistant manger helping was rude and dismissive. His name was Todd, or something similar to that. He acted like it was a big inconvenience for him to have to help with the return. He never apologized for the delay and when it was done, he simply left the register without saying thanks/sorry or anything at all to either me or the cashier. Jenny jumped in with the typical 'thanks and have a good day'. As a separate note, I agree with the negative comments about the copy center. Every time I have used them they manage to mess it up or take too long. It often is the case that other customers in line are having issues, as well. read more

I once asked them to hang up a flyer for my theater group. Had I known the level of rude that I would face from the pimply cashier, I wouldn't have even bothered. My office does all its office supply buying online or In this particular Staples. I had a return with no Receipt. The clerk (nice) needed the managers help-BRAD. He basically accused me of lying when I said I purchased my item in store. Was quite rude And condescending to me, had to go back and get My Staples card (yes I should have had it) I returned Hoping to prove to BRAD that I am not a liar. My Item came from that store. Unfortunately he was Not in the store. At. Manager helped me, not nice Or friendly but he did complete my return. BAD experience. Think ill go to Chelmsford store in The future. I use the store all the time because of its convenient location. However, I have to report that they have almost always been helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. So I am mystified by the number of bad reviews. My latest extremely positive experience was when I ordered a PC via Staples online and it happened to be defective in an intermittent manner. The manufacturer's helpline diagnosed it as a hardware problem, not software, but only offered to repair it under warranty, not to exchange for a new one. Clearly unacceptable for a brand new purchase. So I took it in to the tech desk at this Staples store and the tech (named Matt) was totally helpful and empathized with the frustration I had had with the manufacturer. After a brief check to make sure all the parts were in the box, he offered me either a cash refund, an exchange for a new one or credit towards a different one. Can't ask for better service than that! read more

I have had great experience every single time I go there. Just recently called because my "saved" projects were not on my account for me to reprint some of my brochures. Derick was able to help me over the phone in the print center. Now I don't have to kill another couple hours redesigning a brochure. I also was there a few weeks back and needed help purchasing a printer. The sales associate I think was Andrew was outstanding! The tech support there is the best. Acton Staples seems to have had a service makeover and it is great! I saw a great price on a microSD card on line. I went to the store to buy one and everyone was being greeted at the door and asking if they needed help. I could not find the cheap SD on the shelf and while I was looking, an employee came up and offered to help. The card was not available there so he walked me to a kiosk and helped me order it on line with FREE delivery to my house since it was ordered in the store. I went to checkout to pay with slip the kiosk spit out for me, and there is now one organized line at the register so you do not have to guess which register will be the fastest. I decided to thank the manager about the improvements in service, and guess what? He was the person at the door greeting everyone and asking everyone if he could help. I'm going to staples in Acton looking to find out about the laser printers and pass the two salesmen if they were having a sale on these laser printers and ink. We don't know and walked away. I waited several minutes then I had to shout across the room then he called on the radio. Then said It might be but I am not sure. I then walked to the desk where the Assitant Manager Brian was putting stickers on some items I asked him about he said As I told the saleman that I was not sure. With an attitude. Then proceeded to tell me that the two tech guys were busy then I took out my camera and showed him what I was asking about Still with an attitude he gave me as if I was brothering him when he could have helped me himslef. He was only putting on sticker on ink.
