A year and a half later and I'm still dealing with these guys. The first time I went here I was mis-diagnosed for my prescription. I was walking around and almost got hit by cars because I had blinding headaches. When I called to fix the problem they apologized and fixed it but made it feel like it was my fault the entire time. After I bought glasses from them I decided to try buying contacts. When I bought them I noticed my credit card was charged twice. When I called to ask why they claimed it was security to make sure their transaction came through. So I was billed $200 twice. I was appalled. The second charge went away but there was no evidence that I wasn't "good" for the money they were charging. A year and a half later I moved out of the area and want my glasses prescription and they will not release my information without me coming in. I don't appreciate being treated like a criminal for wanting glasses. Update: I contacted Stanton corporate and they are sending my prescription via mail. Which is great so I never have to work with them again. Update: looks like my prescription expired without anyone telling me. Now they will not give me my prescription. Lovely. Just so you all know I am not hard to get a hold of. I tried calling Stanton corporate and was re-directed to a random store in Florida who can look up my prescription (remember guys, I'm in NY) I'm livid that I personally cannot access my prescription but some random store in Florida can. Welcome to Stanton Optical where you can get two pairs of glass for the price of 1....Cruise Ship. Speaking of glorious cruise ships, the time it takes to get said glasses matches that of the Titanic's return safely to shore from it's departure. But to be fair, the glasses did show over the span of 3 months....with incorrect prescriptions.....and lenses that did not actually make it to the corners of the frames leaving a gap that you can out the tip of your finger through.....and made of a space age polymer that is equivalent to the strength of decade old tinfoil. But in the interim between order time and old age, if you need to call on the status of these glasses, you should walk down the street to any random corner store and ask the cashier, as they will have exactly the same information on the whereabouts of your glasses as both the actual Stanton location OR "Corporate." So, when you finally do get your glasses, sell a kidney to pay for them and ultimately return them days later for a full refund, know that your goal in achieving complete and utter self deprecation has come to fruition. read more

I went to STANTON Optical in spite of the bad reviews. Several of my friends recommended them as they were pleased with their service. My experience was better than I've had at other optical services. The selection of frames at the 2 pair for $99 was slim but adequate, I selected higher price ones and still had 2 pair for less then I normally spend for one. They were ready for pickup the same day. The store was clean, neat and organized. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and assisted as soon as I asked. The NEW Manager TODD McGRAW and his staff were very informative and friendly. On March 20, 2014 - I went to get my prescription filled as my previous optician (Penneys) couldn't fill it. My initial visit at Stanton was pleasant, if chaotic, due to the construction/repair of the building. I was told it would take 4-5 weeks for my glasses to be made and I would be called. The paperwork/receipt had a date of April 23 written on it. No one called me. On May 1, I called them - yes, they were in. But they needed to check them to make sure they were okay and they would be ready by 5pm. So at 4:45 I drive over there. And they can't find them. Finally a young woman comes and tells me that my glasses had not met their final approval. Okay, fair enough, but why didn't they call me and tell me so I wouldn't have driven 15 minutes? I was told that a replacement pair would be ready in two weeks. Which doesn't make sense if the initial pair would take 4-5 weeks. Again, nobody from Stanton EVER called me. As I work 12 hour shifts, night shift, I finally called them on May 20. I was told they would locate them and call me back. From 12 noon to 2pm, I called three times and was told the same exact thing. "We will look for them and call you." I finally jumped in my car and drove over there. And guess what? NO GLASSES! The woman started telling me excuses and I stopped her, "Are my glasses here?" She tried to give me more excuses and I stopped her. "I want either my glasses or a full refund of my money. Right now." To which she agreed and she did so. I received the full amount back into my debit account. One of the "excuses" she was trying to lay on me was that my glasses were unusual and blah,blah and I had put my hand up and stopped her and said "I have been wearing glasses since I have been 7 years old and I am well aware of what my lenses involve as well as the special orders." (anti-glare, Transition, bi-focals). "It doesn't take this long to make glasses." Another excuse as to why my glasses weren't there - and she said this as she was handing me back my debit card - "the technician thought this order was already cancelled." WHAT??? -- does anybody know what the heck is going on in that store? They all seem clueless as to proper customer service and records management. I didn't say anything, as I was glad I didn't get a fight to get my refund, and I was on pins and needles until today when I saw my debit account was credited. Sadly, after these idiots screwed my order up - I came here to check them out and I was frightened that I was going to be ripped off. I have my money back - but no glasses, and two months wasted and now I have to call my insurance to tell them about this, so they can get their $$$ back from Stanton. I had an "eye exam" recently and picked out new glasses. When I went to pick them up, they were impossible to wear due to the fact that they were so blurry and incorrectly made that I became ill from the distorted view the glasses gave me. I returned to Stanton the first time and they said that the glasses were fine and I was wearing them for a long enough time to adjust to them, after checking the glasses, Stanton said that the glasses had been made incorrectly. They tried to fix them many times without success. I again tried to wear them, but finally just wanted to return them. Stanton told me that I then had to pay $49.99 for the initial eye exam! They insisted that this was entirely my fault for not wearing the glasses long enough, even though they said many times that the lens were not correct. $49.99 later, I can't believe I was charged for this exam. read more

They said their computers were down & couldn't process the insurance so he had to pay NINETY DOLLARS!!!! but he'd be reimbursed. Called them a week later, "oh, your insurance doesn't cover that." After waiting for 2 hrs to get my eyes examined with an appointment, the Dr. was so confused he thought I was someone else, them wanted to take him before me even tho I had an appointment and was there first!!! I get a guy who was very cool and gives me every discount in the book and I think he actually made a few up...No Kidding! $465.00 for 3 pair of glasses; bifocal. $ 155ea. not bad but not great either. Ready within 1 wk, ready 3 days later I get a call to pick up my glasses. I live 45 min.away so I get there and only 1 pr was ready. I was hot and was told I should of asked to be called when all were done. It was my fault... I go back to get the other two and when fitting me for the glasses they break the pair right in front of me ..."we have a frame and can change in 20 min. 1 hr laterthey broke the last pair they had! I tried Stanton once, upon recommendation from a former neighbor. I had been a long-time customer of VisonWorks (fka: Empire Vision). I'll be going back to VisionWorks when it's time to get a new Rx: the Opthomologist there literally saved my vision. (Long story, happy ending). VW also gives better customer service and miles better eye exams, That said, back to Stanton... The minute I walked-in, it was crowded. "Good", I thought. "Popular place"! After walking around for several minutes (at least 15), with no one approaching me to see if I needed help, I approached an employee asking how I could get service. I was told to sign-in to the exam area and wait. The technician got to me 20 mins. later, apologizing for the long wait. As I said, it was pretty crowded, so okay, 'no problem'. The exam was a joke. I've been wearing glasses for 55 of my 60 yrs. Their idea of an 'exam' was assembly-line-get-it- over-with-quick, using machines I haven't seen in 20 yrs or more. No drops to dilate my pupils, no machine peripheral vision check, just the actual doctor's fingers placed a foot away from each side of my head and a couple "Can you see my finger now?" placements. And a very lame glaucoma test with the old, air blown in each eye. No actual pressure ON the eye testing that only--it seems--is done everywhere else I've been. (The doctor, bless his heart, had probably taken the job for extra cash after retirement). Another employee approached me and seemed very friendly and willing to help. I counted on his experienced opinion to tell me how my selections would look. (I left my comfort zone to choose frameless glasses, which I am happy with). I can read people pretty well, and his feedback appeared genuine. Then came the bill. I chose the 2 for 1 w/free exam. My experience says NOTHING is 'free', as the cost will get absorbed elsewhere. In this case, the glasses themselves. A no-brainer. The original estimate came to $675.00. I almost fell out of the chair and suddenly, the friendliness I once felt from the same employee vanished. He was ALL business now and wasn't happy with my "I can't afford that" stance. We stared at each other until I repeated that I simply refuse to pay that kind of price for glasses that cost as much as some mortgage payments. So...as it's done in the car sales business, he went back to speak to his 'manager' to see what could be done. Suddenly, the price dropped by $250.00 to $425.00. (Hmmm, 'amazing' I was thinking. The overhead is pretty high at this place. Plenty of room to negotiate). I was told that I could get the following month's 'deal' in addition to what I already had. Okay. Done. A week went by. My glasses came in. I went in, and was told, after walking around again, but for 5 mins. this time, by a customer that there was an actual sign-in sheet. There's no sign anywhere in the place indicating that you need to sign-in ANYWHERE, whether it's for an exam, an adjustment, nothing. Nada. Zip. I had to approach an employee after 20 mins. to find out what was going on. She got another employee to attend to me. This time, only 5 customers were in the store, only one ahead of me waiting for adjustment(s). By now, I was seething. I got a half-FAST adjustment and went home. After I got home, I noticed some terrible scratches on the upper-right corner of one of the lenses. (Terrible Quality Control)! The same pair was painful to wear. They were too high on the bridge of my nose, so I wore the others and went back the next day to have the very first man who took care of me take a look. Even HE agreed how terrible they looked and asked me who gave me the first adjustment and didn't notice the obvious damage. By then, I was ready to scream, but didn't. I pointed-out the first adjuster very discreetly. The original man adjusted what I was wearing perfectly, and sent the others for replacement, no charge of course. (I only had them less than 24 hrs). I was informed, again, that their warranty is for one year, and they'll pay 80% of the cost for damage and/or replacement. LONG story short: Their customer service is terrible. Calls come from an automated, out of town recording. Their quality control on the actual workmanship could be SO much better. If I'd let those lenses out of my hands thinking that the customer was stupid enough not to notice, I would've been given a written warning by my supervisor, no doubt about it. The warranty policy is terrible. The eye exams should be reported to whatever entity watches over such things. The bottom-line prices, WITHOUT negotiating, are outlandish. At the end of the day, once I pick up my repaired lenses (which is another over-long review in itself), I will never, EVER set foot in Stanton Optical again. (If I'd read the reviews beforehand, I wouldn't have gone there in the first place). Live & learn and "Hindsight IS 20/20". You've been warned. Sorry Stanton, but even your commercials are insulting to our intelligence. I'd fire your ad agency. read more

I will say, the man who helped me pick out new glasses should be in charge. Very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. A pleasure to deal with. However I would not return here. I ordered my glasses and they tell me two weeks before they come in. They call a week later to tell me they came early, yay! But they didn't pass inspection so they're sending them back... When I inquired why they didn't pass, they apparently just didn't. I was miffed and asked if it would potentially be another two weeks. The explanation and attitude was pretty much that I shouldn't be upset because they were already six days early. Fine whatever. I get a call a week later they've arrived. I rush there after work because you can only pick them up until 6pm. I finally get there and I'm waiting and waiting, eventually preparing what I'm going say when they tell me it's past 6, and I can't have my glasses because I had to wait so long. There was a blonde girl literally wandering around behind the counter doing absolutely nothing staring around the room like she was imagining what it would be like to ride a unicorn. She had a lab coat on and looked like she worked there, but I was confused because she wasn't working... Finally a man from the other side of the store had to tell her to help the two people standing in front of her face, ugh. Thankfully I got a different woman to help me. nice enough, but I felt rushed. She had no intention to spend much time helping Me. I've worn glasses my entire life and have never had someone spend so little time fitting my glasses. So I leave less than thrilled and check myself out in my mirror in the car. Something seems off. I go back inside to look at the display pair I had originally tried on and ordered. Yup something is off, my new glasses are dark grey not black like I ordered. I take the display pair and show someone that my new glasses are the wrong color. Oh no problem we can swap out the lenses right now! Perfect. I follow him to the pick up counter and he's prepared to put my brand new sparkling lenses in the old display frames where heaven only knows how many people have messed around with them. I have to ask for new frames. "Oh yeah, I'll go check and see if we have them" God have mercy on their souls had he not come out with new frames. Well I've had them a total of 16 hours, half of those hours I was sleeping and I'm already annoyed. the glasses are still loose and my special smudge proof coating either sucks or Wasn't done. Wildly disappointing product and service. I had no intention of ever going back but now I need to have them fitted again. UPDATE: I took away my second star. Went back today to have my frames adjusted. Same woman who helped me when I picked them up. Pleasant enough. But I'm still not happy with how they fit. She was nice and helpful, but I don't feel like she was really listening to how I wanted the glasses to rest on my face, they're better but not great. I cut it short and I'll go someplace else. SECOND UPDATE: a few months into owning my glasses the both lenses have stress fracture cracks in the same spot on both sides. I take them back and they try to charge me for new lenses. Had I not put up a fit they would have. New lenses came in and the optician told me they shouldn't have tried to charge me for them bc the lenses were obviously defective. Terrible store. read more

I bought glasses from Stanton Optical in May. It took them two weeks to deliver the final product. They made the right lens wrong. It took another two weeks to deliver the correct prescription. In September, I noticed that the right lens was badly scratched. This is the lens they had to send away to make special and supposedly the reason it took weeks to get my glasses in the first place. So I contacted Stanton and they agreed that the right lens shouldn't be scratched so quickly when the left lens is perfect. They charged me $20 and said they'd get them replaced. Replacing them took five weeks. I went in yesterday, 10/29/2015, and got them replaced. The right lens is already covered in scratches. Multiple. I paid $450 for two pairs of glasses. I have, no joke, gotten better longevity and life out of glasses at Zenni Optical, for 1/10 the price. Never touch this company. Never. Ever. Ever. read more

Went for a scheduled appointment on 3/2/18 at 9:30 am. drove 50 minutes to get there. Signed in at 9;05 am. My appointment was to be the first one for the day (doctor starts seeing patients at 9:30). There were a couple of walkins that showed up in front of me. I asked if I would still be seen. Was told there wouldn't be much of a wait. After 45 minutes they started taking more walk ins in front of me. I asked what was going on and was told that the walkins would be BEFORE me. I wasn't happy but waited another 45 minutes and they started taking others in front of me. I asked again and was told that they forgot me and had crossed off my name. Big waste of time. So, it was a Sunday afternoon, and the only eye place open was here. It was at the time urgent enough to have to go so quickly. So talking to the representative, I was told that my contacts would be around 50-75 dollars, and it MAY take a day or two to get them in. After the eye exam, the doctor told me that I had a very strange prescription, and that it would cost me $400 for a 6 month supply. I knew this, but I kept my mouth shut, just in case. Anyhow, I paid the $400, and they GUARANTEED me no more than 2 weeks, and I would have my prescription, which is exactly what I was counting on, dealing with my other optometrist. So 2 weeks rolls around, and no contacts. As a matter of fact, they hadn't even processed my order yet. WHAT?! I almost lost it. Whatever, they gave me a "workable" solution, that just barely got me by. Conclusion: Its been 3 1/2 months, and they still don't have my order in, more less even, correct. I'm very irritated, and will not be going back. I also advise the same. I see these shmucks going out of business quicker than it took them to establish. I had just left Sterling Optical from being treated poorly, walked into Stanton and in 1 minute I regretted even going to Sterling. For six weeks I made trips to Stanton Optical approx. every two weeks to pick up my glasses which were never made correctly. They would comeback with one lense thicker than the other, bifocals in the wrong spot, wrong script, and transitions glasses that never darken, and was told it takes about thirty times outside for them to work properly. I eventually received my FULL refund after being persistant. They blamed the glass problem on inexperienced employees, broken equipment, and even put me through two eye exams and requested a third one, in which I refused. You may save a few dollars but you get what you pay for. read more

Once I got my exam... it took me forever to find decent frames that were acceptable because none of the frames were an adequate size to fit the lenses I needed. Buy one get one promotion???? NOPE! Sat me down after I picked 2 frames that weren't great, then proceeded to waste my time because the worker had to keep getting up to help people who didn't have appointments because other staff wasn't around. Came back.... started to work on my stuff, then left again... came back then proceeded to tell me that the lenses STARTED at over $500 for ONE pair!!! So I said well how much for one pair. Was then told normally they don't sell just one pair. WHAT!?!?!? I was already there for 2 hours! Then she was like well then you have this coating.. for a fee... and that coating for a fee... but if you get those coatings it will be weeks to wait for your glasses... ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!? I stopped the whole transaction! Left and went to LensCrafters (where I normally go). In less than 30 minutes, I had found MANY well made frames that I could pick from, got the high quality lenses AND the high quality coating, a frame, AND an insurance policy on the glasses.. for LESS THAN $500!!!! Went in to have scratched lenses replaced under warranty. The people there were very helpful and promised they would be ready in about a week. It only took 5 days. It took them less than half an hour to replace the lenses once I got there. The new ones are perfect and I got a new case for my glasses too. Nice people, good work, and timely. I'll be back. My boyfriend and I went to Stanton Optical for the second time a few weeks ago, to get him set up for contact lenses. After the exam, the staff did not teach him how to properly put in a lens, clean the lens, or even give him a case a to keep them in (these were not the type that you keep in 24/7). They gave him the option to try out the pair he had in and come back, or order more now (he ordered more on the spot). While they were friendly and accommodating enough, I feel they are very poor at educating their customers on the necessities of wearing and caring for contacts, which can ultimately lead to some very nasty consequences. read more
