I went to Stanton Optical on Labor Day as they had openings for an eye exam. * Entering the store, it is a bit confusing as to where you have to go. I was directed to the right where the eye exams are done. I was not acknowledged so I just stood at the desk until someone appeared and asked what I needed. * Eye exam was done by a provider who was doing this remotely. As I wear hearing aids, I was not able to understand the provider and their questions, etc. One of the associates had to stand next to me during my eye exam to tell me what the provider was asking. This made me very uncomfortable and I honestly felt quite stupid not being able to understand the provider on my own. * They had a large selection of frames and good prices. * The person who took care of me marked the line on the lenses as to where the no line bifocals should be. One pair of glasses is ok but the other I literally see everything as blurry when I look straight out of them. If I tip my head down it tends to clear up a bit so I believe the line is not correctly placed. * When I picked up the first pair, they were just handed to me. When I asked about having them fit, she stated put them on which I did. She then stated looks good to me, you're all set. When I wore them to work the next day, I noticed the temple tips were actually pointing away from my head! I took them back a week later for adjustments but then they literally left dents in my head when I wore them all day. Took them back a third time and they seem to be okay. * I think the biggest issue for me is they would not put the two pair of glasses I bought through my insurance. I was told I would have to submit this on my own. Needless to say, it is a one and done with Stanton Optical. I will not be going back. read more

I went here for an eye exam in November 2023. All the humans were very nice, however, they don't tell you there's no doctor on-site until you are seated in the chair and someone pops up on a screen in the corner to operate the machine. Overall, I would have given it a 3 star review HOWEVER... The driving/distance glasses I bought from them after my appointment turned headlight halos into tubes of light that bore into your soul. (Obviously related to the prescription they gave me). AND... I have been trying for 3 months to get used to the progressive lenses I purchased using their prescription. People kept telling me it takes a while for your eyes to adapt to your first pair. Meanwhile, I've been experiencing headaches, dizziness, and weird flashes of light. I finally got fed up and paid out-of-pocket for an eye exam elsewhere and it turns out Stanton had a couple things VERY wrong. This doctor told me I actually have an astigmatism in both eyes, not one eye like Stanton said. He also said something about them having the axis backward? I dunno. (If you can read prescriptions, I've included both.) I called Stanton and they said I'm welcome to come in, but I'm too late to get a refund. For the first time in my adult life: I needed glasses, which I learned when I nearly failed my DMV eye test. I saw an eye doc (not at Stanton Optical) and was given a prescription to take anywhere, so I chose this Stanton Optical because they have such a large store / selection. For this specific store: amazing customer service. I was met by a nice young woman named Crystal or Krista (I forget) who listened to what I was looking for in a pair of glasses. She encouraged me to try a pair that I probably never would have picked up to try on my own, and that's the pair I ended up buying. Along with another pair that my Dad picked out. The glasses were ordered 2/27/25, and I got a text and an email on 3/11/25 that my glasses were in. I called the store on 3/12/25 to check if they were ready, and they were so I picked them up and am very happy with them. 12 days from ordering to picking up is pretty good, considering glasses are custom-made. From start to finish: I am happy with this store. HOWEVER. It seems that the 'local' phone number goes to a call center outside of America, and it seems that the Stanton Optical website is a 'national' website and not store-specific. More on that below. When I had ordered the glasses in-store, the young lady helping me said that I'd be texted/emailed that they were ready but that I should call the store to double-check because they might not have been unpacked yet, or sometimes the texts are sent early. When I did call the 'local' number, I utilized the automated system and the computer told me that my order was NOT ready. I opted to speak to a person, a nice Indian man, and he told that the glasses ARE ready. So the text & email said 'ready,' as did a live person in India, but the computer said 'not ready.' I was lucky that the order was, in fact, ready. A few reviews here have mentioned that they wanted same-day glasses because 'that's what it says online,' but it appears that local stores have no control over what the national website says, and this location DID have a sign on their door stating that they do no do same-day glasses anymore. I think that Stanton Optical, as a business OVERALL, could benefit from allowing stores to customize their own websites with what services they can and cannot offer, and I think it'd be nice if the 'local' phone number actually rings at the specific stores and not at an out-of-the-country call center. I guess I'd equate it with the national McDonald's website saying 'Shamrock shakes are here!' but your local restaurant either doesn't participate or their machine is broken, and you don't find that out until you get to the place. read more

Contrary to all the negative reviews, I had a wonderful experience here. Yes, I was a walk in, on a Friday morning, and only had 2 people ahead of me. All the employees were extremely helpful and professional. Yes, the process of comparing the lenses was done remotely by a doctor on the screen, who had control of the lense machine. However, once I was answering which lense was better, I forgot he was not actually in the room, and just concentrated on determining what was best for my vision. Coincidentally, as expected, my prescription did not change from what I previously had (from another chain that I used to go to downtown). So, the prescription was determined accurately. The preliminary tests, on 3 other machines, were done by a technician. I have a very high prescription, so the so called deals have never applied to me, not here or other places. I did have to wait 3 weeks for my glasses, where pre-pandemic elsewhere, was 2 weeks. But, again, that I am used to. My glasses turned out beautiful, getting the lenses as thin as possible. (Even so, they'd never be considered "thin".) Picking a smaller frame with thick arms minimizes the side view of the thickness. Even now, only so much can be accomplished with current technology. Also, my high prescription contacts aren't stocked, and took 2 weeks to arrive. Similar experience elsewhere. My only problem was that they did not stock even a sample of the contact prescription that I needed. That was something I didn't used to have a problem with. Luckily, I was able to extend the use of my last pair. But, again, I understand if there is little need for that particular prescription. All in all, this was a positive experience! read more

Came for a eye exam, and everything went very smoothly. Upon entering the store, it can be a bit confusing. I had to be directed to the area for the exams, by a nice employee. Up front, is where all the glasses and associates are located. They are very mindful, of the covid-19 guidelines. Seating and the waiting lines, are clearly mark for proper social distancing. Unfortunately, they do not accept my insurance. Even still though, their prices were actually better than other places I have gone to. They DO NOT take walk-ins. The entire reason I came is because they advertise that they do. Here it is 1:30 on a Saturday, nobody here but me, my son and at least 3 employees sitting here getting paid for sitting and they will not take us. The employee also tried to schedule an appointment after i repeatedly told her my job will not allow an appointment. Then she said I could walk in during the week but they probably won't take me because they're short-staffed. So I will not be driving a half hour to come back here to possibly not be seen again. Just do your self a favor. First and for most on the door is a sign you will need to wait up till 2 weeks for your glasses. I called to verify they could do them the same day. Never did tell me about the sign on the door. Dont waste your time on this place. There is no one to greet you. The optomitrist had to come over and get me started for the eye exam. A nice, friendly tech took me back for the pre exam. She asked me to wait while she got the exam room ready. They dont tell you there isn't an optometrist on site. She gets me set up for a virtual eye exam. Leaves the room the optometrist tried for over 5 mins to get someone anyone to come in and change the equipment, she appolgized profusely for the wait. Im now way over everything. She asked me to go out and see if someone was there. I did just that, but there was still no one at the desk. Walke to the previous room and asked for my glasses she explained that said guy again, not there had them. I was beyond upset by this point, went behind the desk, found my glasses, and walked out. Pat, the optometrist, was looking at his computer but didn't bother to chase me down. This must happen often. read more

Extremely poor communication is the main issue of my complaint. In mid-May I ordered sun glasses from Stanton Optical and was informed they would arrive in about 2 weeks. After not hearing from Stanton after 2 weeks I stopped in to inquire about their status. No clear reason was given for the delay but they said they would check into it and the glasses should arrive soon. 2 more weeks go by, still no glasses and no update from Stanton. I stopped in again. Now the story was a problem with the lenses but I would be informed on the status of the order. 2 more weeks, no calls, no update. I stop in again, now it's supply issues causing the delay but I would get an update. 2 more weeks of waiting (now 2 months after initial order) no updates of any kind. I went to the store again and this time I spoke with the manager who did some checking and said he would get back to me. This was on a Monday. He did in fact call this time and said he expected them in by the coming Friday. That Friday came and went with no update. I waited another week after that and returned to the store to inquire. The sales person I spoke with said she would check on the order. She left for several minutes to speak with the manager. She returned to say that the issue was "breakage", whatever that means. She said my choices were a refund or different frames. I took the refund. I feel it was very unprofessional of the manager not to come out and address the issue personally but instead send an underling out to give the latest lame excuse. I've gone here for years and I'm generally happy, this review is not regarding my treatment i received overall from the staff. This is directly related to the fact that there is no longer an optometrist in-house! I cancelled my exam when I got there and found out. I want my optometrist doing my exam in person, not over telehealth. I may still end up getting glasses here depending on what I do or do not find at other places for selection, but I'm really unhappy they've gone this route. Brought my daughter here for an eye exam and new glasses. You can either call and make the appointment or do it online. We had wait a few minutes but when Diana helped us check in she was very pleasant and helpful. As we went to pick out her frames we were not allowed to put them back on the shelf. When I called to make a new patient appointment I was told they would accept my Davis Vision insurance. I arrived for my new patient appointment and there was not an employee in sight even though there was a waiting room full of people. After waiting at the empty check in desk for 10 minutes a staff member came out and directed me to the correct eye examination desk where there, again, was no employee. Eventually someone came out and told me that they in fact did not accept my Davis Vision Insurance. Complete waste of time. Extremely disappointed. read more

They also didn't tell me until I was through the registration process that the doctor isn't even in person!! Now they won't do anything about it and I paid out of pocket. My exam was by a remote person. No one live in the room. When I got the glasses I couldn't see. Wrong prescription for me. They did redo them but it took forever to get them each time. AVOID! Took my special needs child there, and because he could not keep his eyes open for the drops, I was told he is uncooperative (he is 17). The doctor demanded he "remove that hat" which is the helmet he wears due to seizures. They are charging more than Medicaid covers for frames and services when his sister's VERY thick glasses elsewhere 4 weeks ago were free with the coating and no additional charge for the lenses. TERRIBLE. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Customer service is atrocious. I called to get a copy of my prescription and was on hold for 2 hours before I finally got to talk to a person. A person who then turned around and send me someone else's consent form and personal information instead of my own. Then she BLOCKED my email when I pointed it out. I had to call again and wait another hour and a half to get ahold of someone else and they sent me an invalid prescription and then wouldn't email me back when I tried to follow up and see if it was just the wrong prescription. I called one more time went through the whole process again only to have that same incorrect prescription sent to me. I went to get my prescription updated elsewhere and they checked the Rx and confirmed that they had sent me a completely wrong and invalid prescription. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Find somewhere else to get glasses and your eyes checked. I had gotten my prescription originally in March and needed the copy in August. There's no reason they shouldn't have had a correct prescription for me on hand. read more

Both times I have been here, the staff has been welcoming, informational and will work with you whatever it may be. I told them I was on a budget, but needed both contacts & glasses. The whole team worked with one another so I could get the best deal. I was overwhelmed with how helpful they were. I walked away with my new glasses that day & more money in my pocket than I thought. Just no. No. I tried there after America's Best , just down the street, said it would take at least two weeks to get a pair. More (very nice, polite) staff there than customers, and all of them telling you something different. Many ads advertising great sales which don't add up when it's time to pay. To be fair, most discount optical places, in my experience, tend to be somewhat bait and switchy, but this seemed worse. I realize these businesses have been negatively impacted by both the pandemic, as well as the popularity of online opticians, but how about you don't base your ad campaign on a dozen pair of multicolored frames obviously from the 80s and 90s. Hideous. Read the (copious) fine print! Thinking I couldn't be the only one suspicious, I looked at Yelp while waiting for my glasses, which I needed yesterday. Should have done it before. Two stars instead of one, since the young and probably underpaid staff were pleasant and probably take a lot of flak for corporate policy over which they have no control. read more

It was my first time using Stanton Optical and it will be my last. I wasn't happy with the extra charges on my bill and I was told my contacts would be in 2 weeks later and I never received a call. After waiting 6 weeks, I called them. They told me they might be in the delivery that day. They seem to be very disorganized. I was told to be at my appointment promptly because they had someone coming in 15 minutes after me. After I rushed to get there, they didn't even take me for 20 minutes. The Optician/Doctor who did my exam was very nice. That's the only positive thing I have to stay about my experience with them. read more

There shouldn't be much room for error for when you order glasses, but this place takes the cake for terrible service. I got my free eye exam and the prescription went up only by a little. When I got my glasses ( 2 pair, that's their special deal) I was unable to read literature looking down and the person helping me said that's normal for new glasses... Umm no. So I gave it a try, but as I thought something was seriously wrong with these glasses. So I took them back and I wanted a return since they did not help my vision. They have no return policy by the way. They said they can only reframe and change the lenses. So it took them THREE hours and another eye exam later for them to realize that the problem I have with my glasses is that my base curve for my original glasses is higher than the base curve they standardly use. All they had to do was measure my original glasses with a little device. Talk about stupid. I went through 3 customer service workers for them to realize this. So my glasses are sent out specially to be made since my base curve is higher. Two weeks later I go to pick up my glasses. The customer service worker tells me my one pair is ready but the other pair isn't ready because she scratched my lenses on accident with a screw driver. I'm furious. So another two weeks later I now have my two pair. It was a nightmare and my glasses aren't even that good of quality. I strongly urge you to not come here EVER. read more

Considering the fact that this is a store that sells eye glasses you would assume that it would be well lit and everything would be sparkling inside. This, however, is not the case. It's like a cave in there and this is clearly meant to hide the filthy conditions within. Well... It's either dark in there or it's the layer of dirt and dust covering the overhead lights. Don't bother to use the mirrors. I think one of the rude employees ate some pizza and then ran their grubby paws across them. Both my husband and my son have had problems with their glasses. My husband's lenses had cracked after just a few days because they weren't cut to the correct size so the pressure of the frames pushing on the lens caused it to begin to crack. They wouldn't fix them at the store so I had to call the corporate offices to work it out. The corporate offices called the store and, upon arriving at the store for the fix, we were treated very rudely because the associate we had initially dealt with (who told us we weren't eligible for a fix) was pissed that I had gone around her. Upon completing the fix, we were informed that she felt we were trying to get something for nothing. That was interesting to me considering the fact that we'd spent over $400 for glasses and they were broken, and continuing to break, after only a week or so. read more

After recieving eye exams, and struggling for a pair of Frames we decided to go with contact lens only to find out while we were cashing out , Stanton does-not take IHa- Remind you they had a copy of our insurance cards. Therefor we cancelled everything and charged us $69.00 for our exams and stated we can take the script with us. While driving im looking at script and discovered they were incorrect- After several calls they finally faxed me the correct Vision Script. BUYER BEWARE!! read more

So After the nightmarish ordeal of dealing with BS at the Washington Rd location in Augusta, Ga and having a conversation with my insurance agent, it was finally established that I did in fact have the coverage I thought I had. My agent suggested I contact management at this particular Stanton location, which I did and was told by whoever answered the phone that they would have a manager call me within 2 days. this was on a Friday and so I decided I would give them until the following Monday. That following Monday, as I was attempting to contact someone at this store in question the manager called me. After speaking with her she told me she would refund the money I paid for the exam because it was covered by my insurance. I told her I would be there in a few hours and she said she would be there. A few hours later I walked into the store, and as was the case with the first time I was there, which was the nightmare that began this particular experience, not one person acknowledged my presence. I stood there for nearly 30 minutes before I finally drew attention to myself, upon which the only thing a female employee had to say was "Are you ready to pick out some frames?". No 'Hi', 'Hello', 'kiss my @$$' or anything, just "Are you ready to pick out some frames?". At this time I'm thinking to myself that this woman must be a complete and utter moron. After what I have been through up to this point and before we have the opportunity to discuss this refund, you have the nerve to ask me about picking out frames? You have got to be kidding me!! I replied I was there to speak with the manager about a refund I was expecting. She then replied that she was the one I spoke to on the phone just a few hours earlier. I told her I was only interested in the refund I was owed upon which she informed me that it had all been taken care of. I then told her that I don't know what was taken care of since I had just gotten there and I had not yet received anything from anyone, to which she replied 'I put it in for them to cut you a corporate check". Hold on a second. I pay for something with a card and later return it for a refund because it doesn't work or whatever and what will they do? Refund in the form of direct deposit back to your card. OK makes sense to me that if you use a card to pay then the refund should be returned to the card. however, if you pay cash for something, as I did in this case, I should get my return in the form of cash, not a damn BS corporate check. This is totally unacceptable for me. I will not ever use Stanton again, nor will I allow anyone in my family to use them and I will inform everyone I know who wears glasses or contacts to avoid Stanton at any cost and that if they need an optometrist I now have one which I can highly recommend. It's a damn shame I had to go through this crap but I did manage to find a small independent local Mom & Pop type operation which could do the job of testing and providing glasses in a much more pleasant environment while being shown the kind of respect and decency that all people deserve. read more

Stay away!!!!! After making my glasses 7 times.. They will not refund your money.. The glasses are still wrong! The last time I picked up the glasses they were missing a nose piece and I had to tell them. No quality control here. Shoddy. There is no licensed optician here to properly for your glasses. I would be better off with readers from the dollar store then the expensive crap they sell here. The glasses are not the advertised price either. My next call is the attorney general for nys as well we the nys licensing felt. Stay away!!!!!!!! Update..I attempted to get my rx so I could go somewhere else to get my glasses. I was told the dr was not on the premises to sign the Rx, They were going to mail it to me. after 2 weeks I called and asked where it was. I went in here because this is where my son said he went for glasses.this is the worst mistake I've ever made in my life! I went in there for an eye exam with an old fart doctor who is as miserable as can ever be. Firstly check my eyes in another room then I went to see the old doctor. I told him my mother had glucoma. So he dilated my eyes and told me I did not have glucoma and continued on with the eye test very quickly. While testing my eyes he kept throwing up pictures and words very quickly. Covering my one eye picture one picture two picture one picture two. I kept telling him that everything was blurry to me. Didn't matter to him he just wanted to get me out of there. I would have been better off not even going in there and just using my fake glasses that for reading I use about 2.5 and I can read perfectly. So then he told me that the prescription was even higher than the 2.5 so I went out and I got fitted for glasses. Waited a day to get the glasses went and pick them up. I could see well from a distance but trying to use the bifocals on the bottom of the glasses I could hardly read it all. So I took them back and complained and went in to go see another doctor because I refused to go see the old fart doctor. So then I went and saw I think she's Indian not really sure she tested my eyes and told me it looked like I had glucoma and bad cataracts and I kept telling her Time and Time and Time and Time after Time to make the bifocal stronger so I could read they assured me it was the highest that they could go.so I went out and got refitted for glasses told him that I wanted the bifocals higher up on the lens so I had it didn't have to lift my head up to read and laugh the classes with them and pick them up the next day took them home and I swear and I'm telling the truth they didn't do a thing to the glasses. They were just as bad as when I took them in there they have them readjusted the second time. The 2nd doctor referred me to a specialist to see if I definitely had glucoma and bad cataracts ever since the first doctor dilated my eyes my eyes have been watering ever since. I scheduled an appointment with the doctor that they wanted me to go to but then I decided a day later at this thing just seems like a whole scam so I cancel the appointment and I'm going to go and see my own eye doctor. By all means if you want to go in there and spend $100 to get two pairs of glasses that will not be any use steel then go spend the money but if you wanted kid's glasses that will actually really help you see go somewhere else this is not the place to go. The people in there are nice but so are all scammers. Once they get your money they could care less. Don't think that you're going to go in there and get prescription glasses for $59 because there's added cost added on for your bifocals and you only have a very small selection of glasses to pick from that are in the $59 range. read more

I went to Stanton Optical during a promotional sale: 2 pairs of eyeglasses for $69.99 and a free eye exam. Nothing was advertised about single vision lenses the only ones acceptable for promotional sale, you were told when you ordered your glasses by then it was too late if you wanted to see. Terrible terrible terrible. No one acknowledged met when I walked in. Once I was able to get approved to help I was treated as if I should have known where I was to go. There was an issue with my insurance and the employee just kept telling met she was new. I was informed three doctor was running 15 mins behind this was street I had been waiting 40 mins. After the exam I was instructed to check out. Again I had to fight out whom to go to. The employee that helped me was not a period person and was extremely condescending. I will not go into the details of his unceanliness. I was told my contacts would be ready in 7-10 days After numerous phone calls I finally received the phone call that they where ready for pick up on day 26. I never was able to find out what the holdup was with the contacts. I believe that the only reason they called when they did was because I.
