I've been a long time client of this office. I resisted posting a review about this prior, but owing to the circumstances-- I will. His hygenist BROKE my front tooth during a cleaning. The office tried to deny responsibility. I demanded that he fix the tooth, which he did. He knew it was a result of his employee's lack of care. Fast forward, on a separate occasion, HE HIMSELF promised that cleaning services were covered, as they always have been.....My cleanings have ALWAYS been covered 100 percent--by this dentist's cleanings.....YET I GOT A BILL FOR around 200 dollars. Stay away from this office. Dr. Chien is not an honest person who cares about the wellbeing of his patients. He's a salesman who wants to make money, and if your teeth get repaired in the meantime, that's great. Otherwise, it's about making money. I'm not going to allow this to go unfixed. read more

Everyone, from the front desk to the hygienist and including Dr. Chien, go above and beyond to ensure that I am comfortable and fully informed of what is happening, what they are doing next and how long the process will take. They truly make me feel like a "VIP". If you are like me, I have always disliked (despised) visiting the dentist. I know it is necessary but I have always thought of a visit as a necessary evil. I cannot speak highly enough of Dr.Stan Chein and his incredible team. After being told by another dentist that I needed three urgent crowns, and two root canals for the pain which started after I had gotten two crowns by him. I was lucky enough to find Dr. Chein and went in for a second opinion. From the moment I stepped into his office, I knew that I was in good hands. Dr. Chein is not only honest, but also incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. He took the time to thoroughly examine my teeth and develop a treatment plan that was both conservative and effective. Dr. Chein found the true source of my pain, which was bad occlusion of the previous crown that I had gotten. I was amazed by his level of care and attention to detail. He saved my teeth from needing unnecessary root canals and urgent crowns and my pain is completely gone! His gentle and conservative approach to dentistry is truly remarkable, and I felt confident that I was receiving the best possible care. I hate going to the dentist. Period. However, Dr. Chien is the best dentist I have ever had! He explains everything to you in detail, is very honest, and gives great advice. He even gives you a call to check on everything, a day after you go in for something big like a tooth ache, crown, etc. That really impressed me since my previous dentists never did that! His staff members are friendly, the office is always clean, and they have nice high-tech equipment. My advice is: if they tell you to floss more, do it. If you need to wear a night guard, do it. If they tell you to come in for cleanings every 4 months instead of 6, do it. They really are trying to help you improve your dental health, and you can avoid making even more trips to the dentist each year! I would definitely recommend Dr. Chien to everyone! read more

I went in for a thorough teeth cleaning, x-ray, and checkup. Dentist Dr. Stan Chien took the time to patiently explain to me of the entire process and answered every one of my questions thoroughly. He went above and beyond what was necessary to make sure I was delighted with my teeth. Unlike most dental receptionists, the receptionist here is really friendly and is incredibly easy to make an appointment with. The office in Irvine, CA, is super clean and modern. I visited for a free consultation that turned into an ongoing disaster. Issue #1: I visited due to a 1800 dentist referral that said Dr. Chien was open on Saturday. I showed up, and he was not open. I re-secheduled. Issue #2: Inexperienced staff. Even though I was the only patient, I stilled waited 20 minutes. The assistant didn't know how to use the xray program and tried for another 15 mins. She eventually had to ask Dr. Chien to do them. Dr. Chien then dictated to his assistant and he had to SPELL the words out for her. Red flag. Issue #3: Dr. Chien recommended I get 2 crowns as well as 4 fillings for some issues in my xray. This is not a problem per se, but I got 2 other opinions that I definitely did not need crowns. Not only did I not need the services recommended, I brought my treatment plan from Dr. Chien to the other dentist and they laughed, saying some of the treatment plan didn't make sense. Issue #4: This supposed one time "free" consultation was a SCAM. They charged my insurance company thousands of dollars, claimed I received two crowns. So when I went to another dentist a week later, my insurance denied my claim because I was maxed out by Dr. Chien! This is unacceptable. I work full time and luckily my new dentist submitted all the forms and evidence to my insurance proving I did not receive any treatment from Dr. Chien. But this took several months. I hate to blasts someone's business, but there wasn't one redeemable aspect of my visit. Office hours were unreliable, staff was inexperienced, treatment was questionable, and billing/insurance was a disaster for something that should have been free. read more

Dr. Chien is knowledgeable, professional, skilled and friendly. He is always patient and explain with you the root cause and care plan. He even called to follows up after each treatment which is really impressive. I had one tooth needs to do crown. When he did the needle numbing my gum, I did not feel pain at all. And after the treatment, he gave me a clear care plan to make it comfortable. Dr. Chien is definitely a trustable dentist. Cleaning service is wonderful. Office is clean and comfortable. I've been coming to Dr. Chien for several years now, him and his staff are all fantastic! When I first moved to Orange County, I found Dr. Chien from a web search through my insurance company, I picked him because he graduated from USC, my alma mater, keeping it in the Trojan family! First thing I noticed during my first appointment was his diploma on the wall with a B.S. in BME, my major! what gives? I knew I picked the right dentist at that moment, we even had a few of the same professors! Unlike other dentists I've had where the hygienist does all the cleaning and you never even see the doctor, Dr. Chien always spends time with each of his patients and actually checks your teeth himself. I've always know I grind my teeth, but dentists before never suggested night guards to me. Dr. Chien got me fitted for a night guard right away, I've already ground through 2 of them, it's shocking to see the damage I've been doing to my teeth before the night guard! When there are fees not covered by insurance, they will go over the finances very clearly with you so you know exactly what you're being charges, and it's all legit. When I needed my wisdom teeth removed, Dr. Chien couldn't do it himself and had to refer me to a surgeon, Dr. Vaughan, who was also excellent. Good dentists know other good dentists! Nobody enjoys going to the dentist, but Dr. Chien and his wonderful staff really makes the experience enjoyable. read more

Dr. Chien has looked after the teeth of me and my family for years. He has always been super attentive to the condition of our teeth and has advised us of potential problems we might face as well as suggested preventive measures to avoid them. Yesterday I went for a temporary crown for a crown that had fallen off. The visit was painless and smooth and I had no problems whatsoever sitting there for 2.5 hours. A special shoutout to Sally who was his assistant in the procedure and was more than an assistant. She not only knew her work very well but was also very understanding and offered a lot of emotional support. I had the best dental experience yesterday thanks to her and Dr. Chien. I started with Dr stan for my routine cleaning and root canal etc. In all of this the dr and his office have a very patient centric approach and take time explaining the small details regarding my teeth and have helped to gently imbibe good dental practices to keep my teeth healthy. I feel truly blessed to have Doctor Stan Chien as my dentist. He is a very positive and competent person. I had a hard time when I was looking for a dentist when I came to Orange County and was referred to Dr. Chien through Dr. Nooshin Ghayoumi who spoke most highly of him. I wanted a second opinion and I was very happy with what he told me that was a year ago now. All the staff are great. I cannot remember everyone's name but I appreciate Sarah, Monica, Carrie, and Angelica among others. He uses the latest equipment including digital X-rays, and often does not charge for dental procedures. He believes in the best dental care which means you may find someone that is less expensive but they will not be as good. He accepts all regular insurances and is very reasonable about pricing for people without insurance. He is very ethical in his referrals and knows how to make people relax. I recently saw Dr. Chien for a second opinion. He and his staff were extremely friendly and very thorough. I knew exactly what was going on and never sat alone in the exam room for more than 30 seconds. He was very open and candid about my situation and made me feel important and valued. He answered every question I had, never rushed me and is allowing me to make my own decisions rather than providing a diagnosis as if it was a matter of fact. The minute I walked in the door, he was rude, unprofessional and insulting.Also, he called my agency and complained about something that has never happened before in my entire career. I believe we need more respect and kindness in this world and people of a more mature age contribute allot to our society. I am very disappointed with the care I received from Dr. Chien. He claimed to be the type of dentist that works with people who are "dental chickens" but when I saw him he had nothing available to put me at ease. He acted no differently than any other dentist I could have found..He wasn't mean and he didn't torture me but he also didn't go out of his way either. I was playing music with headphones on so I wouldn't have to hear the drill (one of the worst sounds in the world!) and he tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to turn it down because if was too loud and was bothering him! So there I was forced to listen to that drill. Initially he told me he had medication I could take if I got really nervous, when I showed up for my follow up (I had to go because the cap on my front tooth had fallen off and this was the visit to put the new one on) he told me he "couldn't find" the medicine and I should just get through the procedure without it. Needless to say I no longer believed he really understood the concept of a "dental chicken". This visit occurred several years ago but I'm writing my review now because now the gum on my front tooth where he placed the cap is receding and the top of my front teeth no longer look like they match when I see myself in pictures. I've gotten to be very self conscious about my smile and go out of my way to cover my mouth when I laugh and try to smile without showing the top of my teeth in pictures! I spoke with a dentist in the area where I now live and I was told that the receding of that isolated portion of my gum (only on the tooth that Dr. Chien capped!) could have been prevented if he had only told me to massage my gum in that area following the placement of that cap!! Seriously? Why would a good dentist leave something like that out of the aftercare instructions??? There is no way my gum can be fixed without surgery and replacing the cap WON'T do anything!! Does that sound like something a good dentist would do? All of this could have been prevented had Dr. Chien taken a few more minutes to consider the feelings of a "dental chicken".. I wouldn't recommend him if you happen to be one too! Find another dentist who actually cares and will take the time to ensure your smile lasts long after you no longer need him!!
