Hello friends. Scheduled an appointment in early April to get the gums redone. Unfortunately Dr. Mata was sick so they rescheduled me on his off day the following Monday. Sadly he was still sick. We scheduled an appointment for May 7. Thankfully he was healthy that day and he and his great assistant did the procedure. There were plenty of novocaine shots but they didn't hurt that much and Dr. Mata warned me when it would pinch. The procedure took a little over an hour and was basically pain free. He was polite and professional and warned me to close my eyes when he used a needle to put in stitches. His assistant was very meticulous about giving me aftercare instructions and both told me and gave me a printout of what to do and not do. I asked Dr. Mata questions and he was polite. It couldn't have gone better. I made an appointment to get stitches removed on May 29. The May 29 appointment went off without a hitch and he saw me a half hour before my appointment time. It took him about five minutes to remove the stitches and there was no need for a novocaine shot. It was pain free. He told me what I needed to do and answered my questions. They made sure they had the name and contact information for my dentist so they could update them. The area looks good and healthy. The gum line's been raised and the gums look red and healthy. There's a small area beneath the gum line that's whitish. I alerted Dr. Mata about this on May 23 and he responded quickly. I texted him a pic and he said it looked okay and to avoid the area. He said it was healing and continue to heal. I'm looking forward to seeing how it continues to heal. I've been diligently following the aftercare instructions and I advise anyone reading this to do what the assistant says and to read the list as many times as necessary. Speaking from experience from an occasion when I didn't follow the instructions, following them is the only way to go. He said my next step is to get a cleaning in a few weeks. I couldn't brush or floss the teeth he improved the gums for until I got the stitches out so that area needs attention. The time between the procedure and getting stitches out was 22 days. I'll provide an update in a few months. Hoping things work out. Dr. Mata is a very patient and gentle man. if anything he errs on the side of caution which I greatly appreciate. read more

Dr. Mata and his staff are absolutely phenomenal. I've had a very hard time finding a dentist that is considerate and attentive until I found Dr. Mata. Both him and his nurse are very mindful when it comes to your pain level and making sure that you feel comfortable and relaxed, which was a huge relief for me. I've previously experienced a dentist who refused to numb me and told me to tough it out but with Mata that's never an issue. They constantly check in to make sure you're comfortable and explain everything they are doing if you wish to know the details. The office is also amazing about returning calls and really trying to work with you and your schedule to make sure they can treat you. I have been looking for a good/trustworthy periodontist to help with my gum issues, but I am deadly afraid of going to the dentist; therefore, it took me a couple months to come up with the courage to call the office for a consultation appointment. The wonderful lady who answered the phone, Susan, was very helpful, kind, and greatly helped calm my nerves. I have to say Dr. Mata is beyond fantastic. Recently went to Dr. Mata for soft and hard tissue crown lengthening in one tooth. I searched Yelp for a periodontist and am so thankful to have found Dr. Mata and his staff. Was afraid that this would be invasive, but realized that I had to get it done. During the initial consultation the doctor informed me of the steps involved in crown lengthening and he asked if I had any concerns. Of course I mentioned that I was afraid of the needle used in numbing the area (haven't had to have my mouth numbed in a very long time). Dr. Mata reassured me that it wouldn't be too bad. On the procedure day, Dr. Mata explained what he was doing throughout the process. I found this to be helpful since I like to know what's being done to me. I appreciated it when Dr. Mata informed me that the 3rd needle would be the worst of it--he was right, but it wasn't as bad as I feared. At the end of the procedure, the doctor and his assistant went over the aftercare aspects that I needed to remember. Dr. Mata even called me the next day to see how I was doing. I don't know about anyone else, but doctors rarely call to follow up on patients themselves. You can tell Dr. Mata cares about his patients in his demeanor and his actions. I had to reschedule my follow up visit a few days before and Susan, the receptionist kindly accommodated me. Overall, I had a wonderful experience. I've become a patient of Dr Mata's in the last year. I must admit, I was less than excited to need to see a periodontist, and I was the definition of the reluctant patient. To my great surprise, it has turned out be a very positive experience, in so many ways. His staff is exceptional, in every way. I first heard of Dr. Mata when I began working as a dental hygienist in the same medical building. I work for Dr. Shireen located on the second level. I would see many of Dr. Mata's patients and really came to admire his line of work. I've been suffering with dental pain on tooth #8 for the past 2 years. I've had several surgeries to try and salvage my front tooth but everything had failed. I had two apicoectomies plus a root canal retreat and the pain lingered. I had frequent headaches caused by my dental pain. I decided to take a more drastic measure and have a dental implant placed. I was scared, of the possibility, of having receded gums. I didn't want my implant to look fake. I was nervous about the procedure and had my reservations. After consulting with Dr. Shireen we decided Dr. Mata would be the one to perform my implant. My main concern was making sure my gums would be symmetrical and that I didn't end up with any embrasures (open gaps) between my teeth. I was confident Dr. Mata would take good care of my gums seeing as he is a periodontist. The procedure was performed 02/2013 and it was a total success. My gums did not recede and I did not end up with large gaps between my teeth. The implant is strong and firm. I don't even think about my tooth anymore. The throbbing pain has finally gone away. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Mata!! He is the best. I was referred to him a few months ago because I was experiencing sensitivity on one of my back teeth from an exposed root. To make a long story short, he did not give up on me. We tried multiple things to make the sensitivity go away and my tooth was being so stubborn! After a couple of procedures did not to the trick, he continued to do more research to find a solution! He would call and check up on me personally after each appointment as well. Long story short I had severe gum recession behind my lower teeth and saw multiple periodontists who considered it too difficult of site for them to treat but not for Dr Mata. He was honest and straightforward about expectations. I had absolutely no pain during the procedure and he even came in on the weekend to adjust the protective dressing covering the gum graft site. Dr. Mata has now done 3 separate implants for me and treated my extensive periodontal disease for over 6 years. He is incredible. The first periodontist I visited told me I needed all four quadrants done and 8 implants.The second periodontist i went to placed instruments all over my chest as he worked. Finally, I found Dr. Mata. He was able to get my teeth healthy and aesthetically pleasing. Dr. Mata saved all the teeth and the only reason that I got the implants was for aesthetics because my teeth had shifted drastically due to the periodontal disease. I originally found Dr Mata after my previous periodontist had done a gum graft procedure that left me traumatized. The had gum receded again and I was told that it was my fault due to "aggressive brushing habits". Thankfully I had the sense to go elsewhere and, due to the positive Yelp reviews, I chose Dr Mata. So glad that I did! He reassured me that the failed procedure wasn't my fault that and he'd fix it and that it'd stay fixed. Once he began the procedure I was bracing myself for the worst but it was over before I knew it! It's been 2 years and the gum is still perfect. I recently went back to have a broken tooth fully removed and I wasn't worried about it at all. He had his team did excellent work. Dental surgery doesn't have to medieval torture. I promise! Dr. Mata is known as Dr. Gentle by his peers. I initially went to a different periodontist for an estimate on fixing my receeding gums. The other periodontist said I needed gum grafting since I didn't have enough gum for a less invasive new technique called pinhole. Suspecting bilking, I was referred to Dr. Mata who said I had plenty of gum for pinhole and said one less gum around a tooth needed to be repaired. So he is very ethical. They gave me stuff to relax and distracted me. I healed quickly with the pinhole technique. Dr. Mata saw me with the follow-ups. His hygienist, Gwen, cleaned my teeth seven months later. She used the latest Ultrasonic scrape technology that Dr. Mata upgraded with. Between the equipment and my improved gums: No pain. No flinching. No sweat. No more shots. No water spray in my face.
