Every time I schedule an appointment, especially when I'm having dental pain they go above and beyond to work with me. Dr. Chen is a gifted dentist. Front desk staff, however, can take a condescending tone during interactions. Sometimes it almost feels like they are trying to intimidate you. They are likely able to get away with it because Dr. Chen is in high demand. Wouldn't hurt to be a little kinder. But otherwise, you will receive high quality dental work here. read more

As a 22 y/o trying to get my dental health in order, I can't express how critical it is to feel comfortable that I'm in good hands. No questions here! Megan -- the office coordinator -- is delightfully kind and patient. She's also diligent with follow-up and making sure patients have all the details they need for the next step in improving/maintaining their dental health. She gave me easy-to-follow instructions on what to prepare prior to my visit and was really accommodating (printed out my paperwork for me at the office, because I don't have a printer). A+ care! Next I met Dawn -- arguably the most professional and caring Registered Dental Assistant I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was SO considerate with X-Rays, making sure not to leave the oftentimes uncomfortable X-Ray sensor in my mouth for too long. She has a great sense of timing when it comes to be cordial and personable...you know how sometimes someone will ask you a whole bunch of things when you have a big plastic apparatus in your mouth? Have no fear, Dawn is really considerate and empathetic (probably from her 10 years of experience in the field! you're working with seasoned vets here.). Also, I got to see all of my dental imaging right before my eyes (they have the most up-to-date, state-of-the-art equipment at this office). Enter: Dr. Chen... This man is a blessing to the planet earth! What a professional. - personable - knowledgable - patient - communicative - hilarious - up-to-date What more could you want from a dentist? Dr. Chen & The Canyon Dentistry Team provide outstanding service. They put you at ease the moment you set foot into the office. The exam was thorough and comprehensive and unhurried. Dr. Chen appears to take care of patients one at a time, and I did not feel rushed. His technique is outstanding resulting in a minimum of discomfort, the right amount of anesthetic, with no need to return for adjustments to the fillings done. The oral hygienist was just as caring and took her time to clean and descale my entire mouth. Lastly, Dr. Chen took the time to listen to my needs and did not pressure to upsell any procedures I was not interested in. I only have good things to say about Dr. Chen and Canyon Dentistry. I needed a dental implant for a permanent tooth I was born without, but the space between the neighboring teeth was quite small, right on the border of being too narrow for an implant. Dr. Chen worked with me despite my difficult situation, and I now have a beautiful implant thanks to his hard work. He also fit me into his schedule with short notice on multiple occasions when the bonding broke on my temporary tooth (a placeholder bonded to the neighboring teeth to fill the space before I had the implant). He rebonded the placeholder multiple times at no extra charge, which was especially generous considering that it was simply a temporary solution my previous dentist employed to hold the space for a future implant. All the staff at Canyon Dentistry are wonderful as well. Also worth noting is their awesome system for reminding you of upcoming appointments. They will send a text message to confirm upcoming appointments about a week out, and then again on the day of an appointment several hours in advance. This was extremely useful for me since I am terrible at remembering my appointments. Do be careful not to miss appointments, as you'll be charged $75 for not showing up. It really shouldn't happen as their system is excellent at reminding you of when you have an upcoming appointment (still, it happened to me once, so just be mindful of it). I'm so glad I found Dr. Chen's office after searching for a new dentist. My prior cavity fillings were deteriorating, and Dr. Chen and Dawn did a wonderful job repairing them. They're very thorough, explaining everything clearly and attentive to keeping you comfortable. I also like seeing the before and after pictures they take when I have cavities filled. I get to see just how bad my cavities are and how perfect my teeth look afterwards. This past week, I needed a cavity filled but couldn't use pain medication. Dr. Chen used his (recently upgraded) laser machine to clean up the cavity, no needles/pain meds needed!! Beyond taking great care of my teeth (I also get my teeth cleaned here), everyone here is very friendly and caring, making each visit a great experience. Staff is very rude. They feel that patients should feel so lucky to get an appointment because they are so busy. Appointments have to be booked months and months in advance and then they cancel it on a whim. Extremely unprofessional. Does Dr.Chen know this is how you are treating his patients? Dr Chen is outstanding! I've never been to a dentist with his patience and attention to detail. I first visited him for a second opinion on getting a crown. He pointed out some things I should consider before making any decision, which turned out to be very helpful. Anyway the crown was eventually installed by Dr Chen and I couldn't be happier. I returned a couple months later for a cleaning and his hygienist suggested replacing 2 silver fillings which were about 35 years old. Dr Chen agreed and fit me into his schedule the following week. I was very pleased and impressed with how meticulous he was in grinding and polishing the final bite for a perfect fit! Besides Dr Chen, his front office assistant Megan and dental assistant Dawn are both super friendly and highly professional. What a waste of time. I'm usually someone who loves the dentist but this soured my experience altogether. I specifically asked for a dr appt and a cleaning and they didn't tell me until after my dr. appt that they don't schedule in the same day. I've never in my 20+ years of going to the dentist religiously heard of that. Every step of the way it felt like they were trying to take advantage of me and upsell and charge me more. Additionally, I've never had xrays be so painful. The device they stick in your mouth has extremely sharp edges. She tried to tell me I probably haven't had the full xray set done but I just got invisalign so I assure you, i've had it done MULTIPLE times in the last few years. STAY AWAY. read more

Dr Chen and his staff are so great! I have been a patient of theirs for almost 5 years. This review is long overdue. Dr Chen recently repaired a cavity for me. He was very gentle and explained what he was doing throughout the process which helped put me at ease. And the best part was that when I needed to be numbed, it was almost painless. He is a GREAT doctor. Dr Chen's staff is equally as amazing. I recently had a change in my dental insurance and the ladies in the front office were great at helping make it a smooth transition. They have always been good at answering any billing questions that I have and are very proactive. They're so friendly and great with appointment reminders. The hygienists are also wonderful. After reading many yelp reviews my boyfriend and I decided to try Canyon Dentistry as our new go-to dentist and we are very happy we did. Dr. Chen is a great dentist and his staff are all top-notch!!! Everyone is super friendly and comforting. I haven't been to a dentist in years since moving to the OC area and I was very hesitant to go. But Dr. Chen was so nice and knowledgeable I felt very safe and knew I was in good hands. Dr. Chen and his staff are extremely accommodating and so pleasant to interact with. They are an excellent detail oriented group of people that really make sure my experience is smooth! I usually hate going to the dentist but their service really made all the difference. I had been originally seeing another dentist however switched due to location reasons. I am so glad I did! Dr. Chen filled my cavities back in July and I have noticed no problems whatsoever. In fact, he actually inspired me to take better care of my teeth. I came back today for a 6 mo check up and noticed the same quality of treatment from my first appointment. But due to careeer and insurance changed, we had no choice to pick a different Dentists but honestly, those Dentists didn't provide a good service and just selfishly thinking of marketing their profits only instead of providing services and helping us with dental need/peoblems, which are different than how Dr. Chen provided the services and dental care. We then decided to search and find Dr Chen. We've found him at his new office location and we soon switched the insurance so we can go back and see him again. Fortunately, he has a set of dentql and office staff that are also care about us--patients! Have been going here for 2.5 years. Dr. Chen and his staff go out of their way to explain the results of your diagnostic tests and what they observe during cleaning. Somehow they manage to be really nice about it, not surly, condescending or making you feel overly guilty for skipping floss. Top notch scheduling and insurance benefits tracking. They will email and text you appointment reminders. They even let me know my employer's policy was changing and what (small) elections I would need to continue to breeze through cleanings without a copayment. read more

My experience at Canyon Dentistry was amazing. I am extremely sensitive to sound and I have severe Hyperacusis and Tinnitus in my left ear. Due to my condition, I have a profound fear of the sound of a dental drill! I was in desperate need of laser treatment for my cavity because laser treatment is so much more quiet than a regular dental drill. I found Dr. Chens office online and set up an appointment. From the first moment I walked in I felt comforted by the staff. Everyone acknowledged my condition and was very professional. Dr. Chen uses the most updated tools and technology in his office. It's truly amazing and is exactly how a dentists office should be. Dr. Chen doesnt just tell you what's wrong. He takes a lot of time to show you what hes talking about visually. The experience was very interactive as the xrays and HD macro pictures of my teeth were instantly displayed on a flat screen tv right there in front of me. Ive never seen my teeth that up-close in my life! The camera used to take them was very impressive. Unlike my last dentist that would just verbally explain everything. Being able to see everything visually is much more comforting and easy to understand. As for the cavity laser treatment itself...Dr. Chen has some serious skills with his laser! He has excellent hand-eye coordination! The macro pictures he was taking and displaying periodically throughout the procedure clearly showed his precision with the laser. How cool is that!? It really was amazing, and i felt at ease to know I was in the hands of such a skilled doctor. You can't even see the filling. Thanks to Dr. Chen and his staff I was able to have my cavity fixed with minimal noise. Which is the most important thing for my condition. I am not a fearful person when it comes to the dentist, but like many people, it is one of my least favorite places to visit. Dr. Chen may actually change that. I was recently referred to him by a friend and from first contact I was surprised and impressed. The receptionist was friendly and accommodating to my hectic travel schedule. When I got to the office I was surprised by how beautiful was, I felt more like I had walked into a spa than the dentist. All of these things were more than I hoped for. I am sure he had other patients that day, but he made me feel like a VIP. He really took the time to educate me about what is going on in my mouth. I was first time at Canyon last week and I was very impressed by Dr. Michael Chen. Dr. Chen is not only very friendly but also very thorough and detail. He started my dental exam process by exam oral cancer potential which I never experienced in other dental offices..I was also very impressed by Canyon s record keeping process and state of art equipment. .Through out my exam and cleaning process, Dr. Chen not only kept my X Ray records, but also took matching digital images of all the teeth so records can be easily retrieved for review in the future. Dr. Chen always give me good advice on how to look after my teeth, he also recommended to renew my old bridge since it has been too old to sustain for another decade. However, he did not push me, and he told me it is totally up to me, I like it when I am in charge rather than being upsold.
