Dr Tran is the best dentist I have ever seen! I have been a patient of his since 2010, and during this time, I can say with complete confidence that he is highly knowledgeable and very skilled at what he does. Besides being an excellent dentist, his caring, kindness, friendliness, professionalism are second to none. Dr Tran genuinely cares about the health of your teeth and your wellbeing. He always examines your XRays and checks your teeth thoroughly; only making  necessary recommendations based on what's best for your teeth--and not for his financial benefits. He and his staff are very friendly, helpful and treat you like family. Dr Tran has done many procedures for my teeth and I am always happy with the results. All of them were done with the highest level of care and perfection!! Most recently, he installed a crown for me. The procedure was so smooth. I didn't feel any pain or discomfort. The crown looks and feels perfect, without any additional trips required for checking and adjustments. It was an amazing experience compared to what I've encountered with other dentists. The cost is very reasonable too. As a result, although I've moved away and it takes me 4 hours round trip to go to his office, I still make an effort to see him. This review is for my experience with one particular receptionist who worked the front desk collecting fees on 2-28-22. I forgot to get her name. She just returned to work according to her. I had made an appointment to get a preventive filling done. At the time I made the appointment, I asked if the procedure was covered by my insurance because I wanted to get an estimate if it wasn't. I was told the procedure was covered-- I didn't think to get the name of the staff who told me this at the time. On 2-28-28, after my procedure was done , the above mentioned receptionist told me my Insurance only covers 50% percent and I'm responsible for the rest. In my surprise, I asked her why then was I told originally that the procedure was covered. At this point her tone was defensive and rude and the following are the excuses she gave me( paraphrasing): 1) I'm not the one who told you it's covered , I just came back to work. Shouldn't all staff be accurate and consistent when conveying fees to a patient? 2) Then she implied that I should have known that my insurance only covers 50% ? Part of the service of a dental office is to give a patient an estimation of any out of pocket fees not covered by the insurance beforehand. I never got any estimate because originally I was informed the procedure was covered. Basically, I was given inaccurate information and instead of taking responsibility, this particular receptionist tried to place the fault on me. I think Dr Tran is a good Dentist but this particular receptionist poorly represent him , his practice , and is losing patients for him . My advice is to get all treatment quotes on paper even if the front staff tell you ' it's Covered', get that noted on paper too! read more

Dr Tran and his staff are absolutely wonderful! I went in to see Dr Tran for a second opinion after I saw a previous dentist who I felt was trying to upcharge me. After his exam he confirmed there was no need for any of the restorations they had suggested. His approach is conservative which I appreciate very much not having to stress about unnecessary costly procedures. He was very knowledgeable and down to earth. My next visits with their Hygienist Chi were also great. She was very thorough and gentle. She kept checking in on me to make sure I was okay during my cleanings. At each visit the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Judy's friendly smile makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. I have been going to Dr. Tran since I was 7 years old(I am now 34). Dr. Tran is the Greatest Of All Time in my dentist experience. I have gone to other dentists in the past(due to moving far) and have had unnecessary dental work done just to fill their pockets. You won't get that here. Best dentist I've ever been to; I refer everyone I know to Dr. Tran! He's the most honest, reliable, selfless dentist I have ever met who puts the patients first. He is patient and thorough in talking to you, reviewing your records, and I trust him with what he says about my teeth. I was referred to Dr. Tran after getting results from x-rays from another dentist In Newport Beach at fashion island saying I needed "4 fillings with porcelain inlays." That dentist did the same thing to my teeth one prior and I had no pain in my mouth. I regret that I didn't get a second opinion that time! When I heard I had more cavities and I didn't have any pain I asked for my X-rays and emailed them to Dr. Tran for a second opinion. He emailed me back saying he'd look at them after work and call me. That same day Dr. Tran called me at 7:30pm after a long work day (for free!!) and told me from the xrays he did not see any reason to give me 4 fillings, or any drilling. I've been going to Dr. Tran since I was 8 yrs old. Which is exactly 20 yrs now. In college and well after when I lived in another state I continued to fly in to see him twice a year for my check ups. The only other time I had to see another dentist she told me that I needed two root canals. Out of panic I called Dr. Tran who made me an apt right away, and when I was able to fly in he explained to me that some dentists speed up the pace at which a patient needs a service and it's unfounded. He assured me my teeth are healthy and if I kept taking care I can avoid root canals down the road. That's when I knew that Dr. Tran is genuinely concerned with the long term health of my teeth and gums. Not just to make a quick buck. After moving down to irvine from Northern California my mom told me I had to find a local dentist to get cleanings. I yelped around and also saw on a dental website that a lot of people liked Dr. Tran so I made an appointment. His place is located in a plaza on barranca near sylvan learning center and a ramen place. Plenty of parking. The actual place is kind of small and if you're in the first exam chair you're right next to the reception area. It was kind of hard to get an appointment for the time I wanted since I'm in school and working so I saw Dr. Tran like a month after I scheduled my appointment. Overall the staff and hygienists are gentle and very nice. A cleaning only took about 45 minutes including having Dr.Tran come and look at my teeth. I really like him because he is knowledgeable and is all about prevention. He told me I grind my teeth even though my previous dentist never said. He also explains why things happen like why I have cavities or why my gums bleed or why I got a chip on my tooth etc. For someone like me I like understanding why my body reacts to things like stress or what I eat and how I can prevent it from happening again. I felt like I could ask him anything about my teeth and he would know how to answer. I even remember asking him if you should brush before or after breakfast! (He said before is fine btw and that you shouldn't brush more than twice a day and to brush gently because it could wear out your enamel). Overall very satisfied with Dr. Tran!! read more

Long over due review but Dr. Tran has been my parents dentist for over 20 years. My little brother and I also see him. Anytime I come in he treats me like family. I always recommend him to ANYONE who is looking for a dentist. He never does unnecessary work and always is realistic when it comes to dental work. He'll often tell you what can wait and what needs to be done ASAP. I appreciate that he gives his patients his cell # for dental emergencies. I can't tell you how many times I've texted him on a Friday night because I had a bad tooth ache. He'll usually try to squeeze me in on a Monday whenever that happens. I've been coming her for about a year and a half. A friend referred me. When I first moved here, I was seeing a different doctor (located very near by) who kept warning me I would be in dire pain at any moment if I didn't replace my old fillings with crowns right away. Dr. Tran said that I didn't need actually need any dental work!!! Onetime I came to him with a pain issues that I'd had for months. He said it could be the wisdom tooth, but we should wait and see if it clears up...could be a sinus issue...sure enough, the pain went away on it's own. I know another dr would have sent me straight to get the wisdom tooth removed. This last visit, Dr. Tran noticed a pre-cavity at the edge of one of my fillings. He told me there was no rush to fix it. I could wait 3 months. He fixed it with 5 min. It was a completely painless procedure!! He didn't even use Novocain or need x-rays, but he did show me some awesome step by step photos he took during the procedure. It only cost me $30 after insurance (not the thousands I was quoted to get a crown with the previous dr). He really treats you as if he was working on his own mouth. He's very passionate about saving your teeth and not exposing you to unnecessary procedures. His pricing is very honest. In fact, there little thing here and there that his office will cover complimentary when insurance doesn't fully cover. read more

I went to Dr. Tran for a second opinion in the hopes of finding a new dentist, after my first experience in southern California with a dentist after I moved from Boston was not good. Dr. Tran's hygienist (I think her name was Elena) performed an excellent cleaning: very thorough but gentle and deft usage of instruments. Dr. Tran was exceptionally thorough and patient in explaining the results of my x rays and answering my multiple questions regarding some differing recommendations I had received at the previous dentist. Dr. Tran's approach seems conservative and least-invasive, which I prefer, but notably, conservative without being reckless. In other words, I have faith that if I needed work, he would recommend it, but not BEFORE I needed it, and he'd discuss issues he was watching/noticing before they became urgent so I wouldn't be surprised with an ultimate recommendation for a procedure. This was my first visit, so I hope to update this in future. I'm very glad I changed dentists! read more

Well, I just paid my visit to my dentist a couple days ago after putting it off for a year and a half (oops!) mostly cause I started feeling sensitivity in my teeth so I knew it was a bad sign. I thought one of my fillings were wearing down but turns out it was a small cavity! (Gosh haven't had one of those since I was like.. 9 yrs old. -___-) Dr. Tran was able to catch it with his naked eye, then proceeded to take new x-ray's just incase there was something more he might be missing. Good news: it was just a simple cavity, but he said if I had waited another 6 months or so I would need to get a root canal! so it was a good thing I came in to get it checked up on. I got examined, my cavity filled (with anesthetics), x-rays taken, and my teeth cleaned in an hour flat. I will have to say that deserves 5 stars alone! super impressive. I've been coming to Dr. Tran for about 12 1/2 years now since I moved to Irvine and he's been nothing short of amazing. This last visit only proved how professional he is in his expertise.. he had a new hygienist that had 5 yrs of experience at another dental office help him out and pretty much used me as an example patient. Throughout the filling process he was quizzing and questioning her on the spot with the procedures that needed to be taken, and she was shocked with how thorough and precise he was. She had mentioned how her previous dentist didn't take the same measures and he said that he is very thorough only because it's what's best for the patient.. that put me at ease! I'm very glad that I've found a good dentist that I've stuck with for more than half my life. Dr. Tran is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. There may be a reason behind my recent cavity.. Layer Cake bakery IS in the same plaza and I DO love their macaroons... haha! But hopefully the next visit I have will be cavity free :x read more

With my sweet tooth, it's a wonder why I don't have a regular dentist. I haven't had one since I got my braces taken off more than a decade ago! I usually have a one time thing with the dentists I see for annual cleanings. They don't tend to impress me too much for me to return again. I was in need of a cleaning this time around and was referred by my coworker. When I arrived for my appointment, I have to admit the ENTIRE staff was friendly and professional. From the girl who checked me in at the front desk, the girl who took my x-rays, the girl that buffed my teeth, right down to the dentist himself who cleaned my teeth. Dr. Tran runs a one man show (it's his own office). But he knows what he's doing and does it well. He's quite talkative, but at the same time very informative as he educated me about teeth hygiene while he was doing my cleaning. He's very thorough and quick and took the time to answer any questions I had at the end of my visit. Plus I got a goodie bag with floss and toothbrushes ....score!! I enjoyed my dental visit very much. Almost too much. Then I went a few doors down to Layer Cake Bakery to try a cupcake right after my cleaning. Haha, I guess it's okae to indulge and give into my sweet tooth now. Because I think I finally found the regular dentist that I've been searching for! read more

Mind you, I am in my 70s and have had an intimate knowledge of dentists, their business practice, their skill set, their knowledge etc.. Alright first, I think the number is 559-1814, the one posted here is a fax. This is probably the best dentist I've ever been too. He's professional, he's personable, and hes really good. Hes not going to ding on garbage you dont need, and hes not going to waste your time by keeping you in a waiting room or warming a chair, they run an ultra tight ship here. I guess I like him becuase he'll roll up his sleeves and do the dirty work if his hygienist is occupied with another patient and hes always really positive. Last dentist I had did a bunch of stuff he wasn't qualifed to do, (like a botched root canal) Trans not afraid to rfer you out if he thinks another proffesional can handle it better. his equipment is top notch, and his facility is amazing for a one man show. He has just about every new tool you can think of, and a whole back-up exam room in case the main one has a problem. How cool is that!? had a root canal done by a referred endodontist then came back to Yang's office for the crown, the receptionist had tried to convince me that my particular insurance only covers like $40 on the crown and I'd have to pay out of pocket from 200-1200 depending on crown type, then after the root canal they try to swindle me insisting that I need a "crown lengthening" procedure (cutting away my gums) for another 600 for the crown to be done properly no mention of this before having the root canal, but they insisted it was because of the shape of my bite, I hardly think the root canal changed that after being advised by family friends in the business that this is most often an unnecessary procedure made up by dentists to generate revenue (googling the term will back this up) I sought a 2nd opinion at Western Dental who told me not only was my crown covered (Irvine Dental is a private practice who won't take HMO's, something else they failed to mention), but also confirmed after examination that the crown lengthening was a sham and I didn't need it, so I'm getting my crown there for a $65 copay as opposed to well over $1k that Irvine Dental was trying to get out of me. the receptionist there was a complete expletive as well backtracking on what I needed and what they told me every time I spoke with them, absolutely terrible service in short they tried to swindle a college student out of a small fortune and perform unnecessary surgery, 1 star is really too generous read more

I have lived in different parts of California for nearly forty years, and have had to change dentists a number of times. I can unhesitatingly say that Dr. Tran is the best I have ever come across. He is very friendly and courteous, with a great sense of humor. One of the things I like at his clinic is his panoramic x-ray machine, which takes in all the teeth in one shot. I didn't have to to bite and hold the plates in different spots, with chances of receiving extra radiation due to slippage or technician error. His diagnosis is honest and accurate and his rates are very reasonable .His entire staff is very friendly and helpful. Until I met Dr. Tran I had come to believe that good dentists like him didn't exist any more. One of my biggest regrets on leaving Southern California is that I will not be able to use him as my dentist on a regular basis. read more
