I first contacted Dr. Trieu & Preservation Dentistry after getting a treatment plan from another dentist local to me. I hadn't been to the dentist in several years, so I expected that I would need some work. What caught me off guard was a plan approaching $9,000, including being told that one of my teeth needed to be pulled. I decided I wanted a second opinion before moving forward. I reached out to Dr. Trieu that same weekend, and he personally followed up with me, even on a Saturday evening. We had a good conversation before I was even his patient. One thing he emphasized from the beginning was trying to preserve natural teeth whenever reasonably possible instead of automatically moving toward the most invasive option. When I came into the office, he took his own X-rays and had a different assessment. The biggest concern was a very deep cavity getting close to the nerve. Rather than immediately extracting the tooth or going straight to a root canal, he explained that we could remove as much of the decay as possible, restore the tooth, and then give it some time to see how the nerve responded. If it didn't work, the root canal option would still be there. About a month and a half later, I'm glad we took that approach. For the first few weeks, I could occasionally feel a slight twinge and was hesitant to put much pressure on that tooth. Over time, though, it improved. By around the fifth or sixth week, I realized I really wasn't noticing it anymore. No pain, no real discomfort, and I could bite down normally without the sensation I had been concerned about. So far, the more conservative approach seems to have worked, and that is something I really appreciate. I also liked that he didn't rush to use all of my annual dental benefits at once. I still have other cavities that need attention, so the plan was to give this tooth some time first. If it continues doing well, we can use the rest of my benefits toward the other work and continue after my benefits reset. I was comfortable enough with my experience that I referred my wife to him as well. She had undergone a root canal at Upland Endodontix about a month and a half earlier and still needed her permanent crown after wearing a temporary. She saw Dr. Trieu about a week after my treatment, and she also had a very good experience. After being away from regular dental care for eight or nine years, I know I have some catching up to do. What I appreciate is feeling like there is a plan and that the goal is to preserve what can reasonably be preserved instead of jumping immediately to more aggressive treatment. Dr. Trieu has been knowledgeable, patient, accessible, and flexible throughout the process. I still have more work to get done, and I plan to continue coming back to Preservation Dentistry. I'm glad I decided to get a second opinion. So far, it has worked out very well for both me and my wife. read more

He is a dentist who is not after the money but rather after what is best for his patients. He goes above and beyond to ensure you are taken care of in the safest and most efficient way. Preservation Dentistry! I've had such a positive experience here. Dr. Trieu is not only kind but truly takes the time to make sure you feel comfortable and fully understand your dental care. I never feel rushed, and he's always happy to answer my questions, which makes each visit stress-free. The dental clinic is clean, calm, and welcoming, and the staff is both friendly and professional. I had a routine dental cleaning and check up with May, the dental hygienist, and she was amazing! Dr. Trieu and the hygienist worked together and taught me how to take care of my teeth properly so I can avoid needing any treatment. What I appreciate most is their honesty and the conservative approach. They don't push unnecessary procedures, which has saved me a lot of money! I've lived out of state for several years now and still fly in just to go to Preservation Dentistry. That alone should say how much I appreciate the kind of care I receive from Dr Trieu and his team. Everyone at the office greets you with warmth. The office is clean and updated, with state of the arts equipment. Dr Trieu truly cares about his patients. He spends time educating you on the proper habits so that you can maintain good oral health and avoid unnecessary procedures. If he can save a tooth, he will. If he can help you save money, he will. A very different mindset from most other dentists who will jump at every opportunity to do a filling or root canal. If a procedure is absolutely necessary, he will put in the extra time and effort to make sure it is done right, on first attempt. Had I had found them earlier, all my root canals done at other offices could have been avoided. Dental hygienist May does wonderful work on my teeth cleaning. She is thorough at every visit, never rushing through the process. She, too, cares about people's teeth. She wants nothing more than to help you improve your oral health. You will learn some great trips and tricks that actually work. Together with Dr Trieu, their preventative approach have kept my teeth in good shape. Truly grateful to have them both care after me. I highly recommend going to them for all your dental needs. read more

Good stuff. He fixed my tooth that another doctor had made a mistake on and took the time to see where the mistake was a fix.

Dr. Trieu is exceptional. I've worked with many dentists and as a dental hygienist myself, his attention to detail is one-of-a-kind. I had a big cavity on my tooth that was hurting and other dentists in Washington suggested I need a root canal and a crown. I used to live in Anaheim but even now I that moved to Washington, I will still fly down to see Dr. Trieu in Irvine! Dr. Trieu was not only honest about my dental work but also took a conservative approach to the treatment. He was very detailed, explaining each step of the procedure. Dr. Trieu made me a partial crown so I can keep the healthy part of my tooth. They had a same day CEREC crown making machine so I got to watch my crown being made and everything was done in just couple hours. I also got a routine cleaning with his hygienist, May, and she did an exceptional job with the cleaning, gentle yet detailed and thorough without any discomfort, exactly what you want from maintenance visit. She measured my gum pockets and also showed me her approach of keeping the gum healthy. She used salt washing technique to polish my teeth which is my favorite part of the cleaning. The entire staff was incredibly nice, ensuring my comfort throughout the visit. I'm so grateful and lucky to have found such genuine and honest team, which is rare in this economy. Most dentists I've visited and worked with primarily focus on treatments and more procedures. Dr. Trieu wants you to save money and save natural teeth and I really appreciate this approach. I will undoubtedly recommend all my friends and family (even my own patients) to come here! read more

The staff is welcoming, professional, and makes you feel as though they've known you all your life. Dr. Trieu is a genius! He explains the process and tells you exactly what he's going to do, plus he has a gentle touch. I've heard horror stories regarding root canal's but this guy was so good I fell asleep in the chair. Very little numbing required and I basically felt nothing. I found my Dentist!!!! read more

A++++ If you're looking for a dentist who goes above and beyond, Dr. Trieu is the real deal! I've been a loyal patient for years now--ever since a coworker at Rivian couldn't stop raving about him--and I can honestly say he has changed my view on dental care. From his pristine office to his passionate hygienists, this place just feels different (in the best way!). I happily drive to my appointments all the way from Redondo Beach, and it's completely worth it. And I will continue to drive or travel as much as I need to and refer all my friends and family. :) Dr. Trieu isn't just a dentist--he's a master at what he does. With decades of experience under his belt, his expertise and precision are unmatched. Over the years, I've had multiple cavities, crowns, and cleanings, and each time, I'm left in awe of his ability to make me feel at ease. For someone who gets nervous in the dentist's chair, it's incredible to experience such gentle care. And his numbing technique? Spot on! This is what dentistry should feel like, I've been missing out my whole life lol. One of the things I absolutely love is how Dr. Trieu keeps you informed throughout every procedure. He talks you through what's happening, so you're never left guessing or feeling anxious. You always know exactly what's going on - which is refreshing! But here's what really sets him apart: Dr. Trieu wants you to be involved in your dental health. He takes the time to show you your own teeth, explains how they're doing, and walks you through ways to improve your at-home care. Whether it's the best flossing technique, how to use a water pick, or what toothpaste is right for you--he gives you all the tools and knowledge to keep your smile in tip-top shape. There are no silly questions here--he genuinely wants you to understand your teeth and feel empowered in your care. And let's talk about follow-up care. Dr. Trieu checks in after more complicated procedures, ensuring everything is going smoothly. That kind of personal touch is incredibly rare, and it's made me feel so taken care of over the years. The office staff? Amazing. May, and Anna at the front desk do a phenomenal job--warm, welcoming, friendly, and they keep everything running smoothly. And Mike, the secondary dentist, worked on a cavity for me recently--he was just as thorough, gentle, I was in great hands. I was even provided some sympathy when I had to keep my jaw open to get all the work done! It was sweet. What I really appreciate about Dr. Trieu is his approach to preservation dentistry. He's all about protecting and caring for your natural teeth. His exams are thorough, and he takes the time to check every tooth and gum to make sure nothing's missed and will show you your x-rayed teeth on a massive TV screen. He doesn't let things get worse and would rather take care of the urgent teeth issues so that it doesn't become a much more expensive problem later. I had this scenario with a really deep cavity that could've turned into a root canal!!! His commitment to your dental health is so clear--and it's something I don't take for granted. If you're looking for a dentist who not only knows their stuff but genuinely cares about you and your dental health, Dr. Trieu is the one! I highly recommend him--and I promise, you won't regret it. From someone who used to dread dental visits, now I actually look forward to mine. Trust me--you'll be in excellent hands! read more

My crown fell out over the weekend and Dr Trieu responded immediately to get me an appt first thing on Monday. He did a thorough evaluation and after almost 2 hours he was able to reuse my old crown and saved me tons of money from getting a new crown or worse yet, an implant. I am amazed at his professional skills and immense care to do what's best for me. To my surprise, he personally text me the day after to follow up on the procedure, making sure I don't have any problems after the procedure. I thought the office staff would normally do this task but to have the Dr check up on me personally tells me how caring he is to each and every patient under his care. I don't have dental insurance any more but I would not hesitate to see him for all my future services because quality services like this is hard to find. I will recommend Dr Trieu to all my friends and family. read more

Just wanted to thank Dr Chu for noticing the gap between my upper and lower when I would bite. It was also causing me headaches and making me two more on one side. He has corrected my teeth and fix the Gap and now my headaches are way less and I chew evenly. The best part is now I love to smile. I was so self-conscious of smiling before because I had a gap between my upper and lower that you could almost put a finger in it was so obvious. So very pleased with him. I highly recommend him he is so very kind and patient. He definitely has an aesthetic point of view which I appreciate but the aesthetic point of view also is the correct point of view because it evens your bite and your chew which prevents a lot of potential problems down the line with your TMJ not to mention the migraines! read more

Dr. Trieu and his team at Preservation Dentistry have exceeded my expectations with each visit. I've had a handful of poor experiences with dentists in the past and because of that I've always been super stressed about booking dentist appointments, I usually put it off as long as possible. That's all different with Dr. Trieu - I'm EXCITED to book future appointments for hygiene and dental care. I've been going to Dr. Trieu for over 1.5 years now and I can't imagine ever looking for another dentist. Preservation Dentistry definitely lives up to their name! Dr. Trieu's goal is to help you preserve your teeth, and he does that not only through fantastic dental care but also by sharing lots of information during each visit, reminding you to always ask your dentist to explain their reasoning for wanting to drill or do a root canal, showing you the importance of flossing and water-picking (not just telling you it's important), and more. I feel much more confident in my dental hygiene routine thanks to Dr. Trieu. **TLDR** : If you want to save time and money, and avoid unnecessary dental visits and procedures then preservation dentistry is for you! If you have legitimate trauma from going to the dentist, and or experience extreme anxiety even thinking about it then this is also the place if for you! Im SO grateful to have found dr. Trieu and his team, and have never felt so supported and genuinely cared about as a patient than I have here. You won't regret it! ------------ I came to Dr. Trieu for a second opinion after my previous dentist told me I needed to extract an old root canal that had become infected.Mind you I had gone several months prior to address this pain, and ended up getting drilled and poked and prodded multiple times in multiple appointments but never apparently addressing the real issue until one day it got to the point where he told me I needed to extract the tooth ?? I was so confused and shocked especially because I felt I had actually been proactive about the pain and going in to see him despite all my dentist trauma... it didn't matter. He said that extraction was my only option and to book an appointment right away and sent me off. It just didn't sit right with me. I felt like I wasn't given enough information to make an informed decision, and I left feeling so stressed and anxious. He didn't mention any of the other consequences of getting a molar removed and the highly likely hood of more costly and painful procedures down the road. I was informed of none of this, and had to research on my own which was extremely scary and stressful. Not insinuating any malicious intent from my old dentist, but I'm definitely understanding how dentistry can also be a business at the end of the day that will try to sell you unnecessary procedures, and I really don't feel that at preservation dentistry. I felt genuine care and concern for my wellbeing which is an entirely new experience for me at the dentist. I feel like I found not only a new dentist but a real friend when I needed it. He will honestly treat you like family and sit with you and hold your hand and OVER explain everything in such detail so you know exactly what you're getting into and what your options are. I am SOOO grateful I found dr.trieu and his team. I truly thought crying at the dentist was just a normal thing until I came to this office. I just recently started coming to Preservation Dentistry, and I really don't think I could be happier with my decision. I had not been to a dentist in well over 14 years, which can be a scary thing to find someone to go after so long, knowing your teeth won't be in the best shape, but i had a cracked tooth and knew something needed to be done. Dr. Trieu and his entire team were awesome. They made sure to walk me through all the information i needed, and really focused on helping me identify the important things to work on first, while helping me make a plan to best use my issuance allocation. If you are afraid of a dentist causing you an arm and a leg, rest easy knowing that Dr. Trieu will work with you and treat you like family to make a plan that works for you and your budget. I really love the emphasis they put on prevention of issues and makes me feel motivated to take better care of my teeth. I would recommend to anyone! read more

One more New Patient and one more LOYAL Patient!! I just met Dr. Trieu on Wednesday after cracking an upper rear molar. Wasn't sure if I cracked my tooth or the filling (could still see some filling left). My Niece has been going to Dr. Trieu for 15 years and told me he's the BEST DENTIST and I now whole heartily agree. I'm self-employed so don't have Dental Insurance. First, he fit me in the day after calling, then after seeing my damaged tooth, made time during his lunch hour to fit me in the very next day to fix the tooth. I felt ZERO, yes, ZERO pain during the numbing process for the filling. He gave me two options for treatment, Composite or Porcelain and was honest about not forcing me to choose the more expensive option even though the broken part of the tooth would require sculpting. For an out-of-pocket expense, I felt it was all fair and reasonable. I was truly in awe of the ZERO pain (I always have some needle pain... during the numbing process, with Dr. T I felt zero pain). Amazing. He drilled away slowly to only take out what was needed, saving my good tooth and not causing any additional trauma to my tooth nerves or roots. He explains what he's doing along the way, and ensures you are comfortable and in no pain. He's doesn't rush to do the job, he's meticulous with what he's doing and most importantly, truly CARES about his patients. Even though I don't have Dental insurance, I will be sure to stay on top of cleanings now and getting my teeth check by Dr. T and his staff every 6 months. BOTTOM LINE...HIGHLY, RECOMMEND!! Anyone with Kids afraid of the Dentist should go to him! (Not adding photos as who wants to see my broken tooth!!) read more

Dr. Trieu is outstanding. We needed a dentist to repair a broken tooth, so we spent many hours researching dentists throughout Orange County. Dr. Trieu ultimately rose to the top of the list, so we scheduled an appointment. He surpassed even our highest expectations. He is extremely personable and genuine. He treats you like you are his only patient. I really appreciate his willingness to explain procedures. He thoroughly explains the pros and cons of different approaches (including financial considerations) and then respectfully defers to the patient's decision. He is also extremely careful not to inflict any pain. He goes out of way to make sure that the patient is totally comfortable at all times. As someone who has had negative experiences with dentists in the past, I was amazed by Dr. Trieu's ability to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere in his office. I feel totally confident in his skill and expertise. Not only does he keep up with the latest technology, but he knows how to use it wisely and he always tries to be minimally invasive. He strives for perfection in his work, which is exactly what I want in a dentist. I watched as he carefully crafted a new tooth in front of me. Thanks to his extra effort, a root canal and crown/implant were not needed. The repaired tooth seems absolutely perfect now. Dr. Trieu is like a master craftsman and I cannot imagine finding a better dentist anywhere. He even personally texted me later to make sure everything was fine. The staff at Preservation Dentistry is also exceptional. Our interactions with May, Ana and others have been wonderful. I stumbled upon Dr. Trieu's office by chance and took a big risk by leaving my previous dentist since I was still undergoing Invisalign treatment. In less than a year Dr. Trieu and his staff has shown me what a dental office should be like. They really care for you like a family member. A little story about my experience: I had a botched root canal and multiple Invisalign treatments from another general dentist that continued to cause me pain 4 years later. I went to preservation dentistry, told them my concern. Dr. Trieu heard me, did xrays and recommended me to a specialist. Lo and behold, there was a root that went untreated. The specialist recommended extraction and an implant. However, Dr. Trieu asked "what would you tell your sister on how to treat the tooth?" That right there showed me that I made the right move to change dentist. I still have my tooth and my teeth are straight. If you're a patient person Dr. Trieu is your dentist. Unlike what other yelpers say, Dr. Trieu really takes the time to let you know what is going on and gives you all possible scenarios and outcomes to treatments. People may see that as him talking too much or embellishing. However, all the chatter really helps the patient understand what is going on in order to make the best dental decision. read more

Dr. Trieu takes the approach to educate you, so you can do the best to take care of your teeth. He will guide you and explain everything and why it needs to be done or not. He is thorough but gentle. I am always afraid of the pain as i have had bad gums due to avoiding the dentist. this was my first time EVER getting a cleaning done that I was not cringing and in pain. He takes his time and doesnt rush the process and makes sure you are comfortable. His office is pristine and beautiful. Very clean and has the most high tech equipment and tools. Sal was my dental assistant and he was also very gentle and explained everything he was doing. Alcy works the front desk and she is very helpful and makes the process of making an appointment very easy. The staff is extremely nice and makes you feel comfortable which is rare at a dentist most of the time due to the high amount of patients that they have and the rush.
