We had existing design plans, and before we started the project, we interviewed several contractors and decided on HQR because their portfolio of past work and talks with Ronnie. We also chose HQR because we felt the pricing was fair and transparent, especially for this area (Danville/Blackhawk). Ronnie made sure we stayed on budget and estimated 12 weeks for the project, and if it had not for a delay with our windows we would have finished within that time frame. Once we started, Ronnie's crew was here every day and was always very friendly, hard working and thorough. Staying on track and having someone work on the project every day is valuable and not something one should take for granted when working with a general contractor. Maybe it was because we had an outside designer, but I had totally underestimated the amount of time that I needed to spend myself overseeing the project. There were some hiccups along the way, and some specific installations that required me to hire some sub-contractors myself. I can say though that whenever there was an issue, Ronnie did make sure that things were fixed right away to our satisfaction. Ultimately, we got our dream kitchen for the expected price within the promised time frame, and I am thankful for HQR and Ronnie for that.

What stood out most was their ability to problem-solve and find solutions when challenges came up, especially when working with the city of SF, which is quite a feat. Josh was approachable, dependable, and always made me feel like my questions and concerns were heard. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy contractor.

I highly recommend them. There are some mechanical things about doing a major project that matter for your quality of life, on which RW&B is excellent. 1) The team is there every day. 2) Change orders are straightforward. 3) Specialists are scheduled promptly and are reliable. 4) Parts purchasing is well planned. 5) The job site is clean. 6) Communications are frequent and consolidated in the group chat. Where RW&B really stands out is design vision and finish quality. We took 5 bids for the project. We chose to go with Josh because in our first meeting, he took the time to inspect and understand the space and the opportunity. He translated our idea and improved on it--throughout the project. In the kitchen, he's the one who suggested moving the range to the other wall, freeing up the floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets and built-in appliances we wanted. For the covered patio space, all I had was a shape and vibes. He took that roughest outline, built it out, made suggestions for the finishes, and designed the beam wraps which took it to the next level. We felt that he & the team shared our desire to build something that mattered. Living in the space now, we can't even remember the before-time. It feels so natural, and fits what we wanted exactly. Highly recommend Red White and Blue Construction.

My bathroom was very outdated and probably hadn't been updated since the house was constructed in 1960. I met with more than five contractors and from the start, Yovel proved he had experience, a point of view on what would work for us, and an easy going manner. LB's quote was fair and they were upfront about potential change orders or other costs that might come up (not surprising for such an outdated bathroom!). Throughout the project, Yovel kept me updated on progress and sought my opinion when different options were available on how to proceed. In one instance, he came up with a great way to cut the tile so I could avoid paying for a whole extra box. The updates were particularly important for me because I didn't stay at the house during this renovation, because this was my only bathroom. I gave me the peace of mind that everything was under control when I couldn't personally be there to oversee things or give input. The bathroom turned out AMAZING and it's easily my favorite room in the house now. I would happily work with them again on my next home renovation.

We took the lead on the finishes but GMBC supported us with lots of discussion, advice, ingenuity and great craftsmanship. They answered our questions and addressed our concerns all along the way. We are really pleased with the high quality result. GMBC has several crews and I can only say that Jose and his team were consummate professionals who were friendly, polite, and took all COVID protocols seriously. They were respectful to each other and to us. They even put up with our puppy who busted through the plastic zippered door every single day to greet them. The work was on hold for a full year due to the pandemic. GMBC did not increase our contract (although we directly paid the increased cost of lumber and finish materials) and they did not pressure us to start before we were really comfortable doing so with the pandemic. Everyday my husband and I tell each other how much we love our house now. After 24 years, it is the home we've always wanted. I don't recommend waiting as long as we did- call GMBC and get it started!

No mark up on materials, and they were the most competitive quote we got out of 3 quotes. Cons: A lot of dust/debris, I know if I would have asked they would have done another pass at clean up and a few rocks were damaged in the demo which they did help fix. I contacted Natan from Northwest Builders and Renovations in Walnut Creek to get a bid on a kitchen…read moreremodel project. I chose his company over the other one that bid the project because Natan gave me confidence that they knew what they were doing, especially for the part of the project that involved a load bearing wall. He is a hell of a salesman. He agreed that they could provide everything the other company had bid but this was not the case. When we met for the bid, Natan assured me that my kitchen remodel project would take two weeks and that the cost was firm. He told me I could have any cabinet finish and quartz I wanted. I even showed him a sample of what I wanted the cabinets to look like and he agreed. Once it was time to order the cabinets it turned out I only actually had a choice of 7 cabinet finishes and none of them were like what I had showed him. For context, both the other contractor I talked to and Home Depot had samples of the finish I wanted so it wasn't like I had chosen something outlandish. Timeline: They demolished my kitchen on May 11th and work was finally completed 6 weeks later. I would not have proceeded if I had known it would take that long. My kitchen, laundry, living room and garage were unusable the entire time. There were also boxes and other debris all over my deck as well as my dishwasher sitting out on the deck uncovered. I got up in the middle of the night when it rained to cover it. There were many days when no one showed up and one time when no one showed up for 9 days straight. I begged him to keep the project going but he told me they couldn't because the countertop was taking so long to cut. That turned out not to be true. At the end of the 9 days the quartz cutter came to measure the counters and told me they had only just received the quartz and would not start cutting it for 2 days. Besides, there was plenty of other work like putting on the cabinet doors and finishing the laundry area that they could have been doing while waiting for the countertops. That is when I stopped trusting what I was being told. Cost: I agreed to pay an additional $2000 for an additional slab of quartz because I didn't like the plain grey countertops they wanted to use. It ended up to be more than was needed for my project so Natan suggested that I pay an additional $2000 to install the quartz all of the way up to the bottom of the cabinets instead of a 4" backsplash. I declined. He did it anyway and did not charge me. I had to pay an additional $4200 to replace the kitchen floor. When he quoted the project we agreed it did not need to be replaced because I had just replaced it 3 years earlier. It got hacked up when the bottom cabinets were installed and a patch job would have looked awful so it needed to be replaced. Communication: Communication was really poor. I had no idea what was going on or when anyone was actually going to show up to work on the project. No one told me they were proceeding with the white cabinets and grey countertops until I asked when I could pick the cabinet finish and quartz. They encountered a problem when opening up a wall but didn't discuss it with me until I asked 5 weeks later and it turned out that they couldn't do what we had agreed. Project Management: Natan said that either he or his project manager would be onsite every day to supervise the work and ensure it was done correctly. Neither one of them was ever there when the workers were so I basically had to make sure things were getting done. Natan kept asking what was left to be done. Had they come, I believe many of the issues could have been avoided. His crew clearly needed guidance. Natan had promised that his team would be on site to receive delivery of the cabinets on 5/14/2026. They were not. I was unable to be there so had to have a neighbor come and receive the delivery. Good thing I have Google Translate because that's what I needed to talk to his workers. Quality: The main issue was everything being installed backwards. My washer dryer hookups were installed backwards. The HVAC control was installed backwards and I had to pay an HVAC tech to come fix it. My dishwasher was hooked up backwards and spewed into my sink when it emptied but Natan refused to have someone come fix it so I had to pay a plumber to come fix it. Garbage disposal was also incorrectly installed. The kitchen was painted a different color and you can see the old color half way down beside the refrigerator and beside the dishwasher. The baseboards were just hacked off at the end rather than being joined at an angle and exposed the raw wood and some are flat and others molded so look like scraps were used. There's more but you get the idea. In the end, my kitchen is beautiful and if they worked the way they did the final week when they wanted me to sign off on the project and pay them it actually could have been done in the 2 weeks that he promised.

The manager I contacted was rude and offered no meaningful help. We paid for a warranty, yet our garage has been left open for months, creating a serious security concern. Their threats made me worry about possible interference with the equipment, although I cannot confirm that occurred. The poor communication, unexpected expense, threats, and unresolved problems made this company extremely difficult to work with. In my experience, collecting money took priority over customer service.
