My visit today was outside San Francisco. I wanted to explore a different area, so we went to 'Stacks,' a beautiful place located in Downtown Burlingame, CA. The food is impressively enormous, with generous and delicious portions. Being a fan of Frittatas, I ordered a Salmon Frittata, which was also gratinated with cheese OMG delicious! As a sweet lover, we also ordered a Strawberry Crepe with yogurt, which was incredibly tasty. The ambiance is lovely, filled with flowers and colors, accompanied by soft sounds that make it a great place for a good and friendly conversation. Been here a few times now, and it's a classic breakfast place! Sometimes there is a wait, but there's a fair number of tables inside. Very family friendly place with tables of all sizes. Parking is always available in the caltrain lot. The menu is huuuge. The waffles are yum! I prefer them to the pancakes, though I prefer that in general. Decent, classic brunch spot located in Burlingame. Very old fashioned and walking in here felt like walking back in time. Service was friendly and we got sat pretty quickly as they have tons of outdoor and indoor seating. The omelette we got was solid and I was surprised to see that it came with hash browns and a bagel too! As this place is known for pancakes, I was super excited to try the banana macadamia pancake which is only available on weekends and this was the big miss for me. It was SUPER dry which was really disappointing. No amount of added syrup or butter could save it. We could've just had a bad batch maybe? We were looking for a breakfast spot in the Burlingame area and came upon Stack and decided to try it based on the feedback we had heard from friends that had been to other locations. The outside looked inviting but when we walking in there was a distinct musty/dusty smell. It was kind of like an old museum smell or the smell in your Uncle/Aunts/Grandparants house (you know the ones that never throw anything away). We did not want to sit outside and we eventually we became "nose blind" to it. My wife and I had pancakes, eggs and bacon, and our girls (8 and 10) had crepes (one with powdered sugar only and the other with strawberries). The pancakes were not very good. They had a grainy texture. I only ate a fifth of mine because I just did not want to waste the calories on something I did not like. The bacon and eggs were .....well bacon and eggs (nothing special). The girls on the other hand really like their crepes. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. But overall I am giving it 2 stars because the service was good and our daughters liked what they got. But I can't see myself recommending this spot as I am sure that there are better spots in the area. read more

This was a cute place to eat at while we visited from out of town. There was a bunch of seating which led the inside to look a bit cramped. There was outdoor seating as well. Hands down, this is the best breakfast in the Bay Area. I always get the steak and eggs with Banana Wheat Germ Pancakes. The steak is legitimately great quality meat and consistently delicious. The eggs are cooked in butter (not toxic seed oils) so they taste better and are healthier. The Pancakes are the best I've ever had. I cannot find any resturant that does this recipe. The bananas are inside the pancake and while wheat germ sounds unappetizing, it makes for the most delicious Pancake! Trust me. It comes with a heaping of melted butter and I just cannot get enough. Lastly, the service is spectacular. Super professional, always friendly and attentive and just overall, geninuenly good nice people. read more

Food was solid and tasty. My wife got a short stack of plain old pancakes, huge portion and very good (with a name like "Stacks" it held the name up). I have never felt more disappointed in an establishment that I actually really liked going to whenever I visited the Bay Area. I had never met the actual owner of this place until today. So he said he was the owner, not sure. The way he was so rude and cared nothing about his customers tells me everything I need to know about never coming back here. This man was unprofessional and angry that people actually want to spend money at his restaurant. He was a middle aged man with tattoos on his arms. He was wearing a purple or burgundy shirt. Granted I was a bit upset because he was seating everyone else besides us that arrived after us, and it was only my husband and I. He then looks at us and asks if we are "Leo?" I say no, I then tell him my name and only waiting for a party of 2. He just looks at me and says oh.. then proceeds to ignore us. Then 2 guys walk up asking for a table and got seated right away so I went up and asked him how long for MY party of 2 and he's like "relax ok, I called your name and you didn't respond." He clearly did not call my name and I told him he asked for a Leo not me, my husband then tells him the same thing that he in fact did not call my name. That's when he aggressively says " you're right and I'm sorry, relax" I asked him to be respectful and professional to which he then says he's the owner and he doesn't care. So I told him he's lucky we're still deciding to stay and eat there, he asks with the most horrible attitude "do you still want a table or not?" My husband and I decided to leave then. I was not and will never ever spend my money at this place again. Good luck to that man and his establishment. With his shitty attitude he won't last long. P.S. The huevos rancheros suck! Finally got around to eating at Stacks with a group of 9! My family was visiting from out of town and stayed at a nearby hotel close to the airport. For a large party, we got seated pretty quickly and waited roughly 30 minutes. It didn't feel like much of a wait though as they serve both water and coffee for those waiting on their table. I was able to get my caffeine fix well before my meal so thank you! The ambiance feels like walking in to grandma's living room. Think floral couches, dark wood, and plants. That's the vibe I got. Service was both attentive and quick! For a large party as well, we all got our food at the same time which I appreciated. Now onto the food! My partner got the Savory Carnitas Pancakes. There's nothing like mixing sweet and savory and Stacks did this dish justice. The Pork was reminiscent of candied bacon - you get the caramelization from both the apple bbq sauce and onions they use to sauté the carnitas in. A fantastic topper to the fluffy pancakes! I got the Eggs Louie which had big chunks of crab meat. They did not skimp either! The hollandaise sauce held up nicely (wasn't too runny or thick) and had such a buttery flavor. We really enjoyed both dishes and easily cleared our plates of food. I'm knocking a point as it is a bit hard to navigate around the tables with the lack of space in between. It was a tight squeeze and I always had to worry about potentially knocking over something at the the table behind me with how close we were. read more
