The food here is absolutely to die for, I mean everything we put in our mouth should be on Diners Drive Ins and Dives and every other food network show BUT be prepared for a 2 hour dinner here.....you will wait ages to even be acknowledged then again for an app and then even longer for entrees. If you have the patience to wait for good food run here now!!! However if you're starving and not in the mood to wait, good or not, I do not recommend this place, you'll be very disappointed. If you're ever in the area of Mars Hill, North Carolina, do yourself a favor and stop by the Stackhouse. It'll be the best decision you make. If you want to talk about getting the most bang out of your buck, not only will a Stackhouse burger fit the bill, but I guarantee you will have one of the best custom made burgers you have ever had in your life. The pictures that are posted do not serve the burgers justice. All the ingredients are fresh. All produce is locally grown. The beer selection features the best breweries North Carolina has to offer. The wings are massive and flavorful. I recommend getting them covered in their beer-b-que sauce for a rich and tangy flavor. The onion rings are MASSIVE, crunchy, and delectable. Try them with the chipotle mayo sauce. As for burger choices, the Big Little Bro and the Mt. Mitchell are fantastic choices. If you're feeling a chicken sandwich, the Dry Ridge is delicious and filling. Hands down, the Stackhouse is the BEST restaurant in the area and you would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't take the time to grab a burger and a beer while in Mars Hill. read more

Ok G.G. The pressure is on. Stopped by on our way home from the beach and was looking for a sit down place to eat. This came up as only or first 4 star plus place in the area and here we are after reading your review, hope your taste buds know good food! Ok so the verdict is in. The burger flavor rocks and the char flavor definitely compliments burger. That being said my burger could not have been more well done and that was the same all the way around the table. A bit of juice would have rocked this burger and really complimented the meal. Onion rings good but a bit bland but sweet potato fries did meet the bill. I would come back but would have to ask them to pull back a bit on the doneness of the burgers a must!!! Service was very good and she had no hesitation making personal recommendations. Noting to wrong to rate 3 stars and just those few points would have given it a 5 without hesitation. read more

If I could eat here daily, I'd be 978 pounds but still pretty happy. My husband got a double burger with a bunch of hand selected toppings (their menu is laid out so you can choose any and all toppings or a signature burger with any changes you see fit). I got a veggie burger and mac'n'cheese. We started with the spinach cheese dip. First, the SIZE of the burgers (both meat and veggie) are very generous and the flavor is fantastic. Even if you ate them both plain, they'd be delicious. We loved the spinach dip but because the portions are large, we had to stop early in order to ensure room for our actual meals. The mac'n'cheese was made with large pasta and several types of cheese. I could've had a bucket of it. The fries were crispy and perfect salted and my husband couldn't stop talking about how great the burger was. And he's VERY picky about his meat. We were staying in Asheville and came for the burger, with no regrets. Our waitress was lovely and guided us in our choices when asked and we left full and happy. read more

It was our first time eating at the Stackhouse in Mars Hill, we weren't disappointed. It's a small rustic place with creative delicious sandwiches . You won't leave hungry. They offered a crispy chicken sandwich with goat cheese, Apple smoked bacon, and caramelized apples. Oh my, now the French fries, hand cut fabulous. Just needed the vinger. One waitress at lunch time? Very nice and polite but very busy so service was kind of slow because she was so busy. Some good local beers as well as the usual bud and coors etc. Double burger selections are huge, be warned. Mt Mitchell burger was amazing, ordered it medium and was cooked perfectly. Great flavor in the beef and the pimento cheese gives a wonderful creaminess to the bite. Top it with a fried egg and bacon....yea its a serious burger! Smoked wings with house buffalo sauce were on point as well, tender with good hints of the smoker and the sauce has just enough heat to make you enjoy the bleu cheese. Now the sliders.....a four plate of sliders is nothing more than one burger patty cut into fourths and put on roll sized buns. The meat portions make the buns look enormous. The burgers are obviously pattied up daily, why be lazy and just cut a regular burger into pieces to call them sliders?? Still taste good but would never order them again, it is just one burger with a ton of bread. Sad shortcut to take for a place serving up burgers worth 5 stars. Add a waitress for lunch and serve real sliders, completely changes the review for this guy. read more

I stopped in this small town looking for a good local restaurant and experience something new. The place doesn't look like much on the outside but when you enter you will be greeted by the very friendly staff. The local beers on tap are awesome and the meals are even better. I had the bleu ridge brisket and it was amazing! All of the other meals my party had was also great. We drove over mountain roads in driving rain to get here, based on previous reviews and it was worth it! All 3 staff working that evening engaged us and we're friendly and helpful. We sat at the bar to eat as the restaurant was full and had good chat with the barman, who recommended beer and helped us order our food. We started with fried pickles and onion rings - delicious! I had the veggie burger with avocado, onions, slaw and tomatoes and it was seriously good - great texture and flavour with just the right amount of spice. Everything is so good. They could easily compete with anywhere in Asheville. The best veggie burger I've had in the area, part courtesy of their impressive house made BBQ sauce selection. Fries are always perfect. The pimento dip is delicious...and I'm not even into pimento cheese. The forks of ivy salad is the best spinach cranberry salad out there, the blue cheese on it is superior. The fried mushrooms are worth popping in for! Nice size portion for the price and the homemade ranch tips them off nicely. The food here is really incredible. We are right down the road so we go frequently. Unfortunately it doesn't always work out because they almost always have a wait (and there isn't much space TO wait), and for some reason there are two servers max every single time so they get ran to death and aren't always attentive. As I said though, the food is amazing and worth dealing with the rest on most nights. read more
