Located in the middle of a non-descript building along a very unwalkable section of Riverside Drive you will routinely find a very likeable selection of small batch beers. A polar opposite of some of downtown's hazy-heavy and adjunct-laden options they fit literally right between their physical and spiritual neighbors Zillicoah and Riverside Rhapsody. With a focus on brewing transparency (pun intended) their tap list will typically be peppered with words like Belgian, Brett, and Bock yet will still have a few IPAs or lighters beers. Inside the taproom what you won't find is the typical sea of cold stainless steel tanks and pipes but instead a primarily glass brewing system custom designed to view the brewing process from mash to boil to fermentation. Outside they have both covered and uncovered picnic table seating. A frequent stop for many of the local brewery tours their setup lends nicely to the education and celebration of the beer-making process. Outsider is unique gem in a city already filled to the brim with breweries.

Mama and I each got a flight and we were both able to find one or two that made us want a full pint. They have a good variety of styles to pick from, so anyone should be able to find something that suits their taste. They have a generous amount of outdoor seating as well as a stage where they host live music. Dog friendly too, which is a big check in the box for us. Top it all off with a food truck that was open when we arrived early in the afternoon, and these guys offer the three things we most appreciate in a brewery - outdoor seating, food availability, and most importantly, good beer! 1 - Just don't 2 - You'll survive, but there are better choices close by 3 - Good choice if you're in the area 4 - I'd drive 30 minutes out of my way just to come here 5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here

The kind of place where you stop in for "just one" and suddenly realize the sun has set and you've somehow made three new friends... aka my favorite kind of brewery! I wish we could've stayed for the live music because the stage setup looked awesome, complete with disco balls and plenty of Instagram-worthy areas for pictures and boomerangs (yes, I'm a millennial and I'm sticking with it)! The beers were excellent, and it became clear pretty quickly that this brewery is woven into the fabric of the town. Their brews popped up at several restaurants we visited, and after stopping in, I totally understand why they're so well-loved in the area. The space is huge, with high ceilings and plenty of room to spread out. There's even an outdoor area built out along the sidewalk--probably a COVID addition that was too good to take away. The vibe was laid-back and welcoming. Service at the bar could've been a bit more attentive, but everyone was friendly and chill, so it never bothered us. And my favorite moment? Watching a grandpa-aged regular stroll in with his own paper plate "poor man's charcuterie board." I absolutely loved it. That's the kind of place this is, a spot where regulars feel at home and newcomers instantly want to become regulars! No food that I could tell, but honestly, with great beer, good vibes, live music, disco balls, and Jell-O shots, who needs much else?! Our youngest son was married here 7 years ago. Generally we visit during the summer and we stay outdoors where there are tables, a stage with live music, a bar and various outdoor sports. We enjoy the company of others, along with their dogs and children. Friday it was raining and we were forced indoors. It wasn't a huge letdown. There was a band playing, the beer selection was still solid, we enjoyed the company of others, along with their dogs and children. For the most part, everyone was on their best behavior. There's always a taste of Asheville weirdness, which we appreciate. We left as the facility started to fill up. Always a good choice to visit Highland. We hope to get back for one more visit before we return to Florida, hoping for some sunshine so we can sit outside again.

We stayed outside and enjoyed the weather and had a beer from the outdoor bar. Sat inside for a bit as well and listened to the band and bought some to go beer. Parking lot and inside and outside are just huge! Including a trail and a frisbee golf course and sand volleyball courts.
