I went here for the first time just a couple weeks ago. The coffee was great and the food was ok. The staff was very loud and seemed to discuss all sorts of topics as if the customers were unable to hear them. I wrote this off as a bad day and just an all around bad experience. To my surprise, the second visit was even worse. The blonde girl working the counter was yelling, yes yelling, about something saying F this, F that, and I'm F'ing leaving. After/during her rant she then turned around to take my order with the most insincere and patronizing way possible. When serving my order I was asked which kind of milk I had asked for. She told me that she put the wrong milk in and was sorry, leaving the cup. As much as they make customers feel unwanted and uneasy, I decided to ask for the drink I ordered rather than the one they offered. After all, I paid for it. The only excuse I can see for maintaining such a staff is that they are related to the owner. I'm not asking for the chic-fil-a service experience but somewhere in between would be nice. read more

What a totally lovely place. Worth a detour off 81. It's a very do-able distance from the highway, maybe a 5 minute detour and the coffee is fabulous. We were driving down from Rhode Island to North Carolina for a funeral and we'd reached the end of our tolerance for Starbucks and D&D coffee. The residue was coating our teeth, it was awful. So we yelped a real coffee shop and found this place and MAN was it worth it. They've got street and lot parking, too. It's a bit cramped during peak hours. When the weather is nice, you can sit on their front porch. I got an iced vanilla almond milk latte and it was amazing!!!! Only thing is their straws are weak but that's not an issue.

First off, this place smells incredible. We were impressed with the service here because my husband asked for a soy chai, and the barista gave him a heads up that the chai mix they use contains dairy. He is vegan so he declined that, and she offered to make a soy chai latte by brewing the tea separately. It turned out to be delicious, and we appreciate that they went the extra mile to accommodate his dietary restrictions. Their coffee was good, too. I see that some other reviews mentioned slow service, but we didn't experience that. They were busy at the time but we still got our order quickly. read more

My older brother and I have been coming ever since he could drive. Since he is now 25, we have been going for 8 years. He and his band used to get the occasional gig there when he was in High School. I drank my first coffee there. FOOD I always order the vanilla iced coffee and a pastry of sorts. The cinnamon buns are to DIE for. I honestly could eat one every day. My brother usually gets a coffee and a cinnamon bun. I have tried his coffee, and you can taste the beans flavor. I'm just more of an iced coffee fan. ATMOSTPHERE The chill and inviting environment is perfect to hang out with a friend or a coffee date to a place to study. The art on the walls and lack of florescent lighting is a nice touch. It is a competition to starbucks because of the character. The barista might know your name, it is personal. OVERALL It is an adorable coffee shop that I could go to everyday if I could. read more

I'm torn on how to rate this coffee shop & roaster. I was very impressed until I bought one of my favorites from them, Guatemala Antigua, and too late noticed that it was a month old. For a sealed air-tight package sitting on a grocery shelf, I'd expect that. But no self-respecting coffee roaster is going to let coffee sit around in open buckets for a month then sell it at normal price. Very disappointed with them. I made a 35 minute drive to try this place out and I couldn't be more disappointed. The small iced coffee I bought (for around $2.50) was extremely tiny. It looked like one of those free cups that Panera gives you to get water in. The coffee was extremely bitter and completely undrinkable. I had to throw it away -- which is really disappointing for a place that brews their own coffee. The atmosphere was very home-spun crafty and there was ample seating on the porch and outside the building. If you live in this area, I'm sure this is a cool place to hang out but I certainly wouldn't recommend making a special trip here. read more

It's time for a good scrub down, perhaps some fresh paint and new flooring, but mostly what bothers me is I have a hard time with the food/coffee prep area. St. Thomas Roasters is one of my favorite local coffee shops. Every city I go to, I try to find atmosphere similar to St. Thomas, but I have not yet found anything similar. very sweet and cozy place, with lots of mismatched tables and chairs, games, books, etc. The coffee is decent (no french press or pourovers, but good espresso), and they usually offer four different brews and rotate it every few weeks. Beans are freshly roasted everyday in the in-house roaster. They also offer loose-leaf teas, green, rooibos, black, etc, all very smooth. Had a tall cappucino and a chocolate muffin. The roast in the cappucino was great, and the size awesome. But it was very milky, almost more a late than a cappucino. I reckon a smaller size with more espresso would have been better (or they need to add an extra shot into the tall, which is already pricy at over $4). The muffin was superb. I would try to go to St. Thomas Roasters at least once a week... we got away from it for a while but started bringing it back. I order my 1 pound of roasted beans there as well... Our last visit there the staff helped the person that was standing in line and came in the door after me (they knew the person as well) well I'm clearly standing with a rambunctious toddler I'm trying to settle, order, and get out.... that irritated me but hey whatever maybe an oversight..... NOW Today I spent over $30 on food/ drinks and beans.... they're trying to move me out of my table while I order a water, then tell me that a group of ladies come in so they want to move me to a smaller table... well I already said I'm leaving in about 15 minutes and the table is theirs then. I have my computer out and I am working, my son is still eating, I have a full coffee. The table was perfect because it was secluded from the crowd of tight tables and chairs...and frankly, Rylan is 3, he is loud and on his iphone. Nice little quaint coffee place. I had a regular latte and a peach & cheese coffee cake. The cake is nice and not too sweet which is what I like. Was there at 9am in a Friday and it's basically filled with people inside. However there are some seats outside as well. 2 staff were manning the place and I didn't have to wait too long for service. This is a very cute coffee shop, unfortunately their coffee is quite bad. The coffee is very weak and even with an extra shot of espresso added to a drink, it still tastes watered down.
