Seriously, I have always liked this place. However, this visit really assured me that I love this…read moreplace. It is in the main town Carlisle so parking can be a little rough, especially on a busy weekend. We went on a Friday and it was not very busy at all, so we sat at the bar. We had the most rad bartenders every Roxanne and Cody I highly recommend going when they are behind the bar. Even though the drinks on the menu are good, I've had them before we wanted to try something off the menu to celebrate my brothers birthday I received the Foxy Roxy it was made so good and tasted like summer, and I highly recommend it. My brother got Spa Day, which was a cucumber mint drink it was so delicious and refreshing, and then my boyfriend wanted a chocolate drink, and they made him an adult Chocolate Milk which was soooooo delicious. We did get a menu drink, and it was the adult root beer float it was very good!!! The two bartenders should seriously be able to have a special each weekend of their own creations because they know what they are doing.

Hook and Flask was hit and miss. The $12 spirits flight was nice. I was able to sample some of…read moretheir very own whiskey rye, and the delicious but not very potent apple pie moonshine. The appetizers (onion rings, fried pickles and soft pretzels) were all good. I was less impressed with their #3 IPA that reminded me of medicine. The cheddar burger was not seasoned at all, and the vegetables (tomatoes and lettuce) were wilted and unappetizing. The homemade chips weren't bad however. It's a good place for drinks and appetizers, but the limited meal menu doesn't seem to be worth much.

I did try to make reservations, but they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. It was pretty loud, which I was surprised by, but once we got settled it got easier to hear everyone. Belgian Cafe Bruges…read more(I'll bet you pronounce it wrong) is what you get when someone made a wrong turn at NYC and ended up in Carlisle - and thankfully so. Belgian is a culinary experience, and the Flemish part has some very decent dishes - but those beers, those are the things that most people find out about the hard way haha. I'm not much of a beer guy but I do love me some moules frites and Steak Frites or really, just about anything and frites... and the Belgians have perfected these dishes - and so have the fine folks at Cafe Bruges. I had to wait until later in the week as it does not open until Wednesday. I popped in on a Thursday and there were plenty of seats at the bar - perfect. The bartender was there to greet me and she set me up with some menus and gave me a few moments to decide on a drink. As beer is not really my thing, i found a decent glass of Côtes du Rhône to get started with. The menu is decent sized and I wasn't completely famished, so I went straight for the steak frites. Myself, a fellow diner sitting next to me, and the bartender (her name was Brooke, by the way) decided it should be med / rare in case the kitchen was off by a level. Turns out the kitchen was spot-on with the medium rare, and this bad boy was just fabulous both in the way it was cooked and seasoned. The accompanying shallot-parsley herb butter and the green beans were both perfect. I literally cleaned the plate. Had a second glass of wine, and when it was all said and done, the visit was just a great experience from start to finish. Great service, conversation and food- what more could you ask for? Definitely give them a visit even if you have to drive over from elsewhere. Street Parking
