As many of us do, I traveled for Memorial Day weekend this year. While passing through Harrisburg I looked up where I could get coffee, because surely I could find a good cup of Joe in Harrisburg (and I wouldn't have to settle for gas station coffee on my road trip). Yelp led me to Denim Coffee and I was not disappointed. Denim Coffee is a small shop on a corner that contains a lot of personality in its cozy space. The very tall windows (complete with window seats) let in lots of light, which created a bright and cheery space to walk into. I glanced over a small shelf of coffee brewing products for sale while waiting in line, although the shelf takes up very little space compared to the coffee bar itself (rightfully so!). I quickly got the sense that this coffee shop puts the emphasis on good "ordinary" coffee brews above all else. Denim Coffee serves a small, focused menu that features your classic coffee options - Americano, latte, mocha, etc. I did see some chai-based options as well, but nothing else in the way of non-coffee drinks. Also, they seemed to only have four syrup flavors - I remember seeing vanilla, chocolate, sugar-free vanilla, and caramel. I decided on an iced caramel latte, the perfect drink to beat the heat while wandering through the ArtsFest. My first sip further confirmed that Denim Coffee puts the focus on coffee first and foremost. I barely tasted the caramel flavor at all, and while I could tell the milk had "mellowed" the espresso somewhat, said espresso was still the dominant ingredient in every sip I took. (This isn't a complaint on my part, but it's definitely a heads up if you're not a fan of drinks that go heavy on the espresso!) While I can see this little shop getting crazy busy during a rush, I had no problems and was pleased with my drink. No pastries for me this time, but perhaps there will be a chance to try one during a future trip! read more

Solid coffee, okay cookie, good service Up early, looking for a good coffee. There was this place and another to try, so went to this one first. Place is relatively small. Staff was very friendly, offered their recommendations based on my coffee preferences. They only do light and medium roasts, and I got a hand pour of their darkest medium. I also got a cookie, because cookie. I like their setup. They got a hot water sprayer that's set to perfect temp. They fresh ground the beans and wet the v60 filter. Their process was correct and they brewed a good cup. For a medium roast, it hit all the right notes. Bright, a little acidic, tart but mellow. I'm not the biggest fan of the sharpness of light/medium blends, but it was well executed. The cookie was a cookie. Chocolate wasn't great and the sea salt didn't have any major sweetness to play off of. So it was just salty. Texture was hard but not crunchy nor brittle. Overall, the coffee was good. Price was standard for a hand pour, about $6 for a 16oz. A good choice if you need some fancier coffee to get you up and running read more

I was in town for a few days for work and walked over to try a hot vanilla caramel latte with oatmilk. It was so good I went back and got it again the next day. Denim Coffee in Harrisburg is located right beside the state Capitol. This version of Denim is a lot smaller than their other locations (which, based on the proximity to the Capitol, makes sense). There is a long bar that runs along the window on one side of it with some chairs and there are a few tables and chairs outside. On the day of my visit, all of these seats, both inside and outside, were full. So my wife and I took our drinks to go. Since we would be walking and the weather was nice, I decided it was a good day for a cold brew with a bit of oat milk. I ordered my wife her Denim go to, a mocha with oat milk. Both drinks were well made and worth the price. What I love about Denim is that they are a specialty coffee roaster and take the time to roast great beans but they keep their prices reasonable. I feel like I am getting a great drink that would cost more elsewhere. Same with their bags of coffee. If you find yourself in Harrisburg and are looking for good coffee at a reasonable price, give Denim a try. read more

My daughter and I stopped in for some Chai on a cold Saturday. We arrived around 2:55 pm not realizing they closed at 3 pm. The barista was very friendly as we placed our order. My daughter got the iced Chai, which she said was one of the best she's had and I got the hot Chai, which was soooo good. The largest size is a 12 oz, please make bigger sizes!! They are so good! Décor is minimal and very clean. There are a few stools facing the street so you can have a seat and people/traffic watch. Prices are that of what you would expect at a café. Went to the harrisburg location, was expecting a little more fun drinks and food to pick from, however, only one sugar-free syrup and just simple items. There were only about 4 pastries to pick from, but I didn't realize harrisburg was so much different from Carlisle. Parking would be tough as it's in the city, and you need to pay for every morning but Sunday. Gave 4 stars due to the taste of the latte being good, I got sugar-free syrup with oat milk, and my friend got a caramel latte with whole milk. I would like to check the Carlisle location next time. Super nice addition to the coffee scene in downtown Harrisburg. Little Amps has more or less been the only game in town since forever. Denim (roasted beans from Shippensburg, about 45 mins away) is a solid contender in terms of quality. They did an awesome job renovating this corner space. Simple, clean, and welcoming. Not really a big enough space to go spend more than 30-45 minutes comfortably but that's okay. Coffee and espresso drinks are well done. Baristas are trained and know how to do things. Coffee menu is fairly typical, no real surprises. Some baked goods that seem to be high quality from what I tried (i.e. fresh, no more than a day old). Not much selection though, just like Little Amps. All in all, add it to your list. Great little place. read more
