Cool, cash only spot that has both breakfast, lunch, ice cream and a couple of decent beers on tap. I was fortunate enough to have some friends with a boat take us to Watch Hill for the afternoon (coming from their launch in Groton). We weren't sure how our day was going to play out (lunch in CT or RI was the question) and I was seriously hoping for a killer seafood lunch closer to Groton. We popped into St. Clair for a quick bite and I was really happy to see that they had a lobster roll on the menu. Three of the four of us ordered it and we all really enjoyed it. All of us are more inclined to order a hot lobster roll but we agreed that this simple, stuffed roll with mayo and lettuce on a perfectly buttered and grilled NE style hot dog roll was well worth the $20 price tag. Our fourth dining companion got a grilled chicken sandwich and she enjoyed it (she said she would've ordered the same thing if we ended up eating at Abbots or a specifically seafood place). Not too shabby! read more

The place has been around forever. Staff kind of friendly and food not to bad but feel the food n ice cream extremely overpriced. For example a banana split is 11 dollars. read more

No visit to Watch Hill is complete without stopping for ice cream at St Claire's. I've enjoyed this for over 60 years from my childhood days sitting on the porch across the street when staying with my parents at Sissons! Excellent homemade ice cream where black raspberry is a family favorite! Order at the window and grab one of the benches and soak in all of the charm that is summer in Watch Hill read more

-Summary- Note: 3.5 Overall Pros: Good food, good ice cream, nice location Cons: Kinda pricey for the portion size, smallish portion size I go down to Watch Hill once a year or so. Its a nice area to walk down by the water for a while. I'll usually drop by here for a bite before I goback. The ice-cream is really good, and the food is good as well, if not a tiny bit pricey for the amount you get. The lobster roll is recommended. Not much else to say. read more

One of my favorite places from my home town. I used to come down into Watch Hill for an ice cream and a merry-go-round ride with my grandmother, a fond memory that I still carry with me. The quintessential summer spot, St. Clair's is open during the day with fresh-popped popcorn, sandwiches, soups (delicious RI clam chowder, which is clear), and subs or "grinders" as we Rhode Islanders call them. The best thing about St. Claire's, though, is definitely the ice cream, which is available all day and late into the evening. Hand-made in a ton of delicious flavors (black raspberry chocolate chip and chocolate peanut butter come to mind), this stuff is just the best. I can't think of summer without thinking of St. Claire's. And of course, the staff at this family-owned institution is friendly and fast! I love St. Claire's and can't wait to (hopefully) be back in Rhode Island next summer for some more. read more

Just the way childhood should be. Watch hill is very quaint except for the huge ocean house and 5 million dollar summer homes from the days of old. This place is a jewel in the rough. Go for early lunch, because parking is always an issue, and if you have kids the wait can be too long, breakfast is good too, but things move slow here. Prices are inexpensive but not cheap. It's truly a treat... from homemade lemonade.... Just like Del's used to make, dusty miller ice cream, and a good old fashion grinder. It's worth paying for parking. Interior is "old school" but it's part of the history and experience. read more

I work in the area and wanted to grab a salad. A salad to me is a nice leafy, veggie salad. I paid $10 for a few leaves of lettuce, old veggies, and a scoop of tuna (with way too much mayo). I will continue to go to Pick Pockets in Westerly and get a FULL salad container with FRESH produce for less than $8. read more

This is our favorite spot for home made ice cream. Very busy tourist spot due to it's Watch Hill location, but so worth it!

This is the spot to go to if you want some freakishly amazing ice cream to enjoy while on a walk to East Beach. Two highly recommended ice cream flavors are blueberry and hazelnut. The watermelon sorbet tasted like sweet ice mixed with kool aid so thank goodness we sampled that beforehand. To elaborate on how good the blueberry ice cream was, I don't think I've ever tried blueberry ice cream as good and I loved how they used small wild blueberries mixed in the ice cream to give it a little bit more authenticity. We received 3 samples and the girl charged us for the 3rd scoop at twenty five cents which she didn't notify us formally until she gave us all the samples!! Way to squeeze an extra quarter from us "out of towners." Good thing we did sample though or else we would have been stuck with $5 for two scoops of ice cream with that dreaded watermelon sorbet. Remember the blueberry ice cream, you won't be disappointed. read more

Oh the lobster rolls... St. Clair is a little spot right in downtown Watch Hill. The location has a bunch of tables, but it fills up very quickly for lunch during the summer. You order at the counter, and get called when your food is ready. Besides lunch options, they also have baked goods and ice cream. The lobster rolls are very good; lots of lobster meat without being overly dressed, served in a buttered roll. The fries were piping hot. The pricing was also excellent, especially for the area. On each of my visits, the staff has been very nice and helpful even during busy times. Overall, this is an excellent lunch option if you're in Watch Hill, as long as you don't mind taking the food to go because of a lack of available seating. read more

St. Clairs is as South East institution. I have been coming here before I could walk and grew up with their cheeseburgers, lobster rolls, and ice cream. The real stand out for me is their homemade clam chowder. I am like Goldilocks when it comes to my chowder..."This ones to creamy, This ones to thin"...St. Clairs has finally solved my chowder dilemma and I have found one that is "JUST RIGHT"....Half NE style, Half RI style! Its a bowl of perfection! Not to creamy not the thin, loaded with clams, potatoes, and has that subtle flavor of pork salt that gives it that homemade touch. I don't care how hot it is, I'll take the boat over or drive over for a cup beginning in the spring when they open to when they close late in the fall. Their ice cream is to die for as well--also all homemade. If your in the Westerly area for some summer vacation, this place is a must stop to enjoy some chowder, a cone and a beautiful walk on one of NE most beautiful beaches! It's a locally run business and the family is always behind the counter! read more

Really good food. We had most menu items and everything was so fresh and hot. The fries are hands down the best ever! We also got a Greek salad with tuna and it was so fresh and delicious, I was truly shocked. Like probably one of the best salads I've ever had. Hidden gem and so glad we went for dinner. Kid friendly and really relaxed atmosphere. read more

I have been to St. Clair quite a number of times over the last decade or so... it's always consistently good. The burgers are nicely prepared and the ice creams are delicious. My favorite is the black cherry chocolate chip, but the mint crunch and the soft serve are solid. The cherry dip was especially tasty. The staff is always kind and accommodating no matter how busy they are... just what you'd expect in the area. read more

Cute beach-y shack restaurant and all. Terrific location. Staff was friendly. However, the ice cream was not definitely not worth the price we paid. One little scoop - and they were little. Typically these places "say" one scoop and put in either a huge scoop or two at least. Not here. The taste of the ice cream was not above par. We love homemade shops like this one, but of all the places we visited during our week this one was the least favorite. Drive to Pawcatuck and go to the Creamery. read more

Typical beach town shack that serves grinders, deli sandwiches, hamburgers and ice cream they claim is local made. Ice cream was rather good. The hamburger wasn't bad but the bun it was served in was insipid and sweet. Fixings you have to ask for, otherwise they serve it naked. You order at the counter either take out or eat in and pick up at the counter. Avoid the clam chowder unless you are not from New England and thus is the only place you'll eat in. My partner ordered a lobster salad sandwich which was described as pretty good. Better than Mickey Dees? Barely. Inexpensive (relatively for the area) eatery that is pretty quick. Cash only and have to ask but there is a hidden restroom for the patrons. read more

St Clair Annex - Order at the counter, they will bring you the food to your table. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Westerly, Rhode Island

Looking for ice cream on a hot day and stumbled upon this place passing through watch hill. My blueberry pie ice cream was delish. Not too sweet and many real frozen blueberries in it. My son's cookie dough was sub par and tasted artificial. But I have to say, the sizes were tiny and the kiddie and small were scooped the same size. Way over priced too at $4.95 for a small. But, not surprised considering the location. read more

the beer was fine. sitting on a bench in the sun waiting 40 minutes for chicken tenders was not. movie theaters seem to be able to crank them out in 5 minutes. I don't think they were butchering and breading the chicken fresh. if you're that busy or short staffed (this was a Tuesday), at least warn customers before they order. if they don't come out soon, I'm just going to leave. read more

The best homemade ice cream and a great family business. I make a point to visit multiple times when in town during the summer. Well worth the long lines but it is a tourist town what do you expect. The popcorn is great too. Been going there for over 50 years and still the best. Limited time cantaloupe is the very best. read more

From the start - great service. They let us in early because they saw we were waiting and they were ready. Immediately the place started to fill up with regulars (a great sign IMO). The food was delicious. We saw ALL of the regulars enjoying the homemade popovers so we asked for one. They had run out but were baking more. We decided to wait as they are only available on Sundays and holidays- so worth the wait!!! Exactly as I remember them from my childhood!!! I definitely recommend this family run gem!!! read more

My husband and I stopped here for dinner on our beach day! Their sandwiches are huge and for a good price. Their clam chowder is also delicious! This is a cash only restaurant, but they have an ATM inside if needed. I will definitely come back again! read more

A frequent childhood haunt, I predominantly came here for the [delicious] ice cream, but on this most recent visit I was in need of a little more sustenance and craving some classic New England comfort food so I gave the lobster roll a try. It didn't disappoint! For $20 it may not look like much, but boy can looks be deceiving! Excellent lobster roll with loads of huge hunks of the good stuff on top of a bed of lightly dressed shredded lettuce, all wedged into a buttery, toasted New England style bun. While I typically prefer Maine style lobby rolls (warm, dressed in butter), this NE style was perfectly executed - not too mayo-y. The fries, however, were disappointingly meh - needed salt and tasted old. Granted it was the end of the day so they probably were old and it probably wasn't worth it for them to pop a fresh batch in the ol' fryer, so what can ya do. I imagine they are usually better (I mean, they're crinkle cut after all!). Nevertheless, a visit to Watch Hill is not complete without a pit stop at the Annex, whether it be for a full meal or a frosty treat. Can't wait for my next beach trip! read more

St Clair Annex - Lobster roll: $20, served with fries - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Westerly, Rhode Island

This is really in Watch Hill, not Westerly. I guess Yelp Southern RI has some catching up to do. Or they could hire me to make the corrections, this is my favorite area in the whole world. St. Clair Annex has the best ice cream, fresh and homemade. I recommend the cantaloupe. There's always a huge line on weekends and they do offer samples. read more

St. Clair's is my favorite in Watch Hill for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For breakfast, it is full-service, and I highly suggest getting there early on the weekends - it gets packed! I always get a fresh-squeezed orange juice and a popover. They have the popovers on Sundays and holidays, and they're the best I've ever had. About half the time, I'll finish off my breakfast with some ice cream ;) All of their 30+ flavors are homemade, and getting mochaccino after breakfast is like having coffee, right?? ...I'll keep telling myself that. For lunch and dinner, they flip to counter service, and their lobster rolls are unmatched - not too much mayo, and you get french fries with it. Don't forget a fresh-squeezed strawberry-lemonade to go with it! Finish the meal off with a turtle sundae (2 scoops, hot fudge, caramel, walnuts), and you have an awesome meal. All over Watch Hill, there is mostly street parking, but if you head to the lot adjacent to the Ridley Watts statue, tell the attendant you're there to eat, and they have a few saved free spots for shoppers and diners. read more

The rating is purely for the lobster roll which was sensational. Worth a detour anytime you are driving anywhere near Watch Hill.

I love the ice cream! Not a fan of the food - overpriced typical beach fare. The ice cream, on the other hand, is homemade and delicious. The mint chocolate chip has the best chocolate crunch pieces that will melt in your mouth! Keep in mind - cash only. read more

So very yummy. Been coming here for over 30 years and it is always a staple of my summers in Rhode Island. They have such a great array of ice cream and the food is great beach food. Nothing fancy but every loves their grinders and lobster rolls. Plus their lemonade is out of this world! My summer is not complete unless I go a couple of times. Plus their staff is really nice and its great seeing the same faces every year! read more

This is a great place for grinders, and the large is huge. I've had the meatless and the tuna. I like how with grinders you get the olive oil, salt & pepper combo, which you cannot get w/ similarly named west coast sandwiches. Grinders rule, that's all there is to it. But even though the large grinders are very filling, you should stick with the small, so that you can save room for some homemade ice cream. Then go hang out at the carousel or take a walk on Napatree Point. read more

Have been going here since a child. Last week I ordered a pepper burger to go. Got home to find a pepper and egg sub in the bag! Took it back and the owner's son (I believe) was very apologetic and quickly cooked up the burger, insisting I take a full refund. Can't get better customer service than that! Breakfast is always great here....fresh OJ! read more

I'm a local resident and I have been for the majority of my life and the few times I've been here, were awful. Numerous times I was there, I've seen the management scold their staff. I'm not one to get involved as its a personal issue, but when I'm trying to enjoy my $40 meal, I don't want to see a young teenager being screamed at. As for the food, if you want to spend $60 for a family of 4 for some greasy burgers and fries, I guess this is your place. And don't order lemonade where you buy food because you will get yelled at, at least my 8 year old daughter did by this older guy. Assuming he's the manager. As for the ice cream, it's alright. If you wanna spend $8 for a tiny bit. As a westerly resident, I would try the Deli or 10 sandwiches. For ice cream, grandmas gelato is very good and definitely half the price. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. read more

I've worked retail and know how trying the public can be. I also have experienced surly customer service before; who hasn't? But when I'm vacationing at the beach and want some ice cream I don't appreciate rude teenagers asking me "What do you want?" It turned into a joke with 6 of us each getting treated rudely by the counter help. Maybe their shifts are too long or their patience is too short, but we'll go elsewhere next time. read more

I've been here on a handful of occasions and the food and service is consistently good. They have a really good and popular ice cream section which makes for a nice treat on a warm summer day. Overall, it's a decent place to visit if you're hanging out in Watch Hill and need to grab a bite to eat. read more

My family and I have been coming to Watch Hill for years and St Clair Annex was always on our "to do list" after a day of swimming. Up until the last two years, we were not disappointed. But, it seems the quality of the product has declined and the serving size gotten much smaller. Last week I ordered a soft serve cone which had ice crystals and the serving size was paltry for the cost. When I complained to one of the employees, I was told all servings are based on weight. Historically, my favorite flavors were maple walnut and coconut. But with the shrinking portions and increasing prices, I will take my business elsewhere. If you walk around the building (the side were Watch Hill Yacht Club), there is Grammy's Gelato which has pretty good flavors or you can drive into and try some of the other suggestions from reviewers. read more

If I'm ever in town, I always come here for ice cream (basically since the mid to late 1990s). The banana ice cream is delicious. It is not overly sweet, is super creamy, and is refreshing. In the past, I've had the blueberry, which is also not too sweet and is very flavorful. I've also had the cookie dough, and some form of peanut butter cup many years ago, which were great. There's a cute little window to order from outside if you want to skip the business of the inside during the summer. This window is also within view of the carousel, so if I were a little kid, I'd probably be in total bliss. I ate lunch here at least 10 years ago, so I don't remember it enough to speak to it, but the ice cream is a must if you're ever in Watch Hill! read more

Fries cost $4.25 yet weren't salted and took 20 min to make? This has been the case every visit this summer. As someone who has been staying in Watch Hill for the summer for over 9 years, I would not recommend St. Clair's. read more

It was a night night for ice cream so when we passed this place we just had to buy ice cream! The ice cream is homemade there. There weren't too many flavors compared to other places I have been. (Maybe I'm spoiled...haha) I chose black raspberry frozen yogurt and it was good, it definitely hit the spot but it's not my favorite ice cream ever. My mom had cappuccino and my boyfriend had coffee Oreo. The best part is the location, beautiful and convenient. The people at the counter were polite and helpful. read more
