The menu is forever changing with seasons and customer input :) I tend to bring my young boys in for a small treat on the summer weekends when we're in downtown Westerly. We purposely plan on getting there at opening which is noontime. At that time of day they are much slower than later on into the evening. This allows my picky/indecisive boys to try a few flavors before committing to something. They can also perouse all the candy/ sweet treats, which they will inevitably convince me to get something to take home with them. It was purchased last year -- recipes and all -- by an employee who carries on this great homemade ice cream tradition. We are regulars when we are in Narragansett. The portions are so large, I can barely eat a small. The variety of flavors is fantastic. The sundaes are great. They make the waffle cones, and when we were there on Wed. We could snell them being made. Everything is made on site from quality ingredients. I had two scoops: One Yogurt Heath bar crunch and the other was Coconut. I also like the Ginger flavor which is unique. The fruit flavors have fresh fruit mixed in. They also offer Malt Shakes and cones for dogs. After all, the shop Is named after the owner's dog--Baron. The operation is run efficiently. Service is 5 Stars plus! Lines move quickly. You place your order, pay, and stand off to side. Your order is brought out to you by a friendly staff member. I believe it's relatively new because I've never noticed it before on Block Island and I tend to notice ice cream places. Then again it is sort of tucked away in a corner and could be hard to see. The store is small, with a counter for the scream and various candies and other treats scattered around. A couple of tables inside and a courtyard overlooking the ocean on the outside. Saying that the view is great is actually an understatement. We didn't bother with the candy but the ice cream was absolutely incredible. Smooth and rich and no doubt containing a astronomical amount of calories and fat, just the way great ice cream should be. They don't have vast amount of different types but enough variety to satisfy anybody except those looking for something very unusual. There aren't many things better in life than sitting in a beautiful spot over looking the ocean and devouring great ice cream. Even though it was hoter than hell when we were on the island, a cool breeze was coming off the water and combined with the richness and algidity of the great ice cream the world was a perfect place. At least our little part of the world. Their are lots of ice cream places in the world but The Scoop Shack is one of those special places that I will always seek out when I'm on Block Island. I think everyone at the window does a great job of getting everyone their order quickly. I got a double scoop of coffee Oreo and salted caramel chip in a cup. I didn't get a lot of coffee flavor from the coffee oreo, it tasted more like chocolate than anything. The salted caramel was delicious!
