We LOVE this tour company! My husband and I are both new to living in Jacksonville and exploring St Augustine. When my In-Laws came down we wanted to do something fun together as a family, but my father in-law has a hard time walking around. We stumbled upon this company and were first drawn in by the electric cart that is used to get around. But then after reading all the great reviews we decided to give it a shot. We had Tom as our guide at a 9AM slot and the weather was perfect. The added breeze from driving around in the open cart was an added bonus. Tom was wonderful! Great personality, obvious love for the city and the history, and really enjoys when you ask questions! This tour is great for understanding the buildings, and really appreciating the history while you're walking around on your own the rest of the day. The 75 minutes is a perfect amount of time. We felt engaged the whole time, never bored. It was honestly such a good experience when MY father came down, we took the same tour! My father had a great time! We even had Tom again which was nice because he was so awesome :) Highly recommend this tour! I can see it being great for kids too. Oh my gosh, everyone in our group agreed that the Gold Tours were the highlight of our most recent trip to St. Augustine. I was afraid that I was being a complete historian nerd and forgoing the humor of the Trolley tours and instead exposing my kids to what I hoped would be a true history lesson, but thankfully a Peter Gold made it fun and interesting. A little on Mr. Gold, he is an avid runner, British native and an avid historian who seemed to be known wherever we went. He is very active not only in the historic community, but is also involved in archeology digs in the area and the findings of sea excavation off the nearby coast. He also told us a special project he is working on that is using drone technology to show the history of the fort and surrounding area that intended for use by area schools. The tour had more factual information on the area that Mr. Gold explains with original pictures and documents that make the tour come alive. His three rowed golf cart fit our party comfortably and he was easy to hear even as we weaves in and out of traffic. Even though I have lived in the area over twenty years, he showed me sites that I never would have found on my own, nor had I ever heard before. He also dispelled some myths about the area and focused just not on the early history of St. Augustine, but also detailed things like Civil Rights, Native Americans in the area and recent construction. I could have stayed another hour picking his brain and having a discussion with him. Besides all the information, he gave us ideas on additional tours and places to go. We are full time RV'ers who've taken tours in many historical cities, and this one is our favorite by far. Our Sunday morning tour with Tom was the perfect orientation to St Augustine. In addition to the multi-tiered history content, the restaurant, and must-see info he provided was well worth the modest fee. Plus, the VIP experience versus the mass transit trolley options, especially during Covid, was priceless. Our teens also loved how interactive Tom was with them, and hearing first hand stories from a local on everything from fairies to floods, and neighbor feuds and foods. What a treasure! On a whim, after reading many other great yelp reviews, we booked a last minute tour with Tom. It was the absolute best way to see the city. I took my boyfriend and 2 kids (11 & 14). We all had a really fantastic time. Having one on one interaction for someone like me that loves to ask a thousand questions was great. Tom knew so many interesting tidbits and we got to see areas of town that we definitely would've overlooked had we just walked around. I've already passed a business card on to my parents and will continue to refer anyone who visits St Augustine to take a gold tour. I highly recommend! Don't be a tourist on a trolley. First time ever booking a historical tour in any city but always rely heavily on Yelp to steer me in the right direction with excursions. I am thankful my children and I made time for our city tour with Tom. After our first tour got cut short due to a downpour of rain Tom wouldn't accept my payment and found a way for us to come back the next evening to do this tour so he could truly finish and show us more of the city. Rain hit us again the second day but Tom graciously allowed us to ride with him in his personal vehicle so we wouldn't be drenched a second time. For my impatient 9 year old to give his undivided attention two evenings in a row to listen to Tom tell us about the history of St Augustine speaks volumes. My 13 year old daughter was very engaged as well. We all asked a million questions and Tom was a walking wealth of knowledge when it comes to the city. Book this company. The reviewers are spot on. Being a Florida native, I have never taken a trolley tour of St. Augustine. After trying to find something unique to do around Thanksgiving, I discovered Gold Tours. Our family of 5 (3 teenagers) took a private tour and had a great time. Our guide was very knowledgeable, shared lots of the history of St. Augustine, and we were able to get very close to many sites along the back streets. This is really the best tour I've been on in St Augustine. I have spent a lot of time in the city and Peter took us to a few places I have never been. His bus is all electric and he can take 6 people with him. He will also tailor the tour to what you are interested in seeing so that makes it nice. He is extremely friendly and has great stories and pictures of the history of the city. I highly recommend him and we will be back. Like the other reviewers have stated, Peter is a cheeky chap- Full of local knowledge and stories. Had to chuckle as others drove by on those huge tour trams, breezing past the good parts, while we sat off on the side of the road getting the "story behind the story"- Only 4 persons on our 6 person cart, made for a very personalized experience. We were able to hop off, take photos, go into some of the attractions briefly and really get "down in the weeks" with this stuff. We love history and really enjoyed the tour. Love the fact you can text an inquiry on availability and get a response back quickly- Made it so we could be off doing other things without multiple phone calls/waiting on call backs. This tour was absolutely the highlight of our trip to Saint Augustine. Tour guide Tom was fabulous. He was a fountain of knowledge about Saint Augustine's history and all the sites around town. It was a lot of fun to "feel like a local" as he called out hello and briefly "caught up" with the many locals he knew as we passed them by in our golf cart. He was wonderful with the two 12-year-old girls in our party of six (4 adults). Tom graciously allowed us to stop to take photos or otherwise look more closely at the various sites. That, plus the fact that we had so many questions, resulted in our being unable to finish the tour itinerary in the time allotted and so Tom generously offered to come back at a later time and pick us up after lunch to finish the tour itinerary! (BTW Tom's recommendation for Henry's as a lunch restaurant was outstanding.) I'm sure this personal tour was so far superior to one of the large tram tours and the price for the six of us was extremely reasonable. I cannot recommend Saint Augustine Gold tours and Tom enough! We spent two nights in St Augustine, and wanted to book a tour giving us a good overview of the City. There are at least two "tour train" operators, that offer three-day tickets for around $22 per person, with on-off service to the various attractions. We asked our hotel people for suggested alternatives, and they suggested St. Augustine Gold Tours. The owner, Peter Gold, picked us up at the hotel in his six seat battery powered, covered ( but not enclosed) tour cart (like a 'stretched' golf cart). For an hour and a half, Mr. Gold provided an interesting, very personal tour of this fascinating City.
