We had 2 tour guides: Gracie and Matlock. Gracie is amazing. She has such a fun personality and you can tell she loves doing this. She's a great story teller. If you get her as a guide, you will not be disappointed. I think our other guide Matlock was new. It felt like he was playing a character or role. It may have been the way they chose to split up the night, but his parts felt cheesy. Overall, it was an interesting tour and somewhat what I expected. read more

Lord above, I have never wanted to leave a tour in the middle so badly, my wife would not let me be rude, I wished I would've just given him $60 and we go our separate ways. We did a Ghost Tour last night with "Ghostly Encounter"...I know, a ghost tour-at Xmas time! Haha! But we've done all the "normal" Nights of Lights tours and so wanted something different to do on this trip. So glad we picked this tour!! We had Ellie as our tour guide/story teller and she was really terrific. We've done other ghost tours-in Savannah, St Augustine, New Orleans, key west...even though we really enjoy them, many end up being very corny. Not the case with this one and was by far the best one we've done. My son said it best-"she was interesting to listen to and didn't try to convince me that ghosts were real!" I love history and I love historical stories-this tour definitely delivered. It's campy, it's fun, it's full of history, dead stories and a great evening walk. Madame Jennifer was full of energy, witty, and a great story teller. She was especially conscientious of one of the patrons who was in a wheelchair for this walking tour, her patience was awesome. The tour walked us by 2 historic cemeteries, the fort, down a few alleys and the City Gate area. Lots of history mixed with some local lore made for an entertaining evening. Armed with a green laser light, pirate lamp, her quick wit and a historic script, Jennifer gave us a great 90 minute tour. read more

Our tour guide was Hippie. Not only was he an excellent speaker but you can tell the paranormal is a real passion for him. I've taken a few ghost tours over the years and they've been everything from whimsical to blood curdling tales. Hippie was one of the first guides that explained the different kinds of hauntings from intelligent, residuals, poltergeist to demonic. As we're lead from site to site, Hippie relates the tragedy that takes place, the background of the era in which the incident happens, and the type of haunting based on the manner of death and the characteristics/behavior of each entity. What a great group. Everyone was super welcoming and friendly. This tour is dog friendly for well behaved leashed fur children. (We had 6 fur kids on our tour.) They all asked to live on each pet and have dog treats. Jan, was a wonderful, knowledgeable historian, who told us with stories from long ago. She was very passionate about St. Augustine and honoring the history and stories of those who have passed, but are still in the city. Save your money and do something fun. There was no Ghostly encounter. This was at best a history lesson. Nothing wrong with learning a little history - but not when you're expecting a ghost hunt. It was so boring and he could not tell a short story to save his life. One of the teens with us said "I've got $22 and surely I can earn $8 more to pay my mom back so we can leave!" It was really a waste of time, but the hour afterwards laughing about everything was a lot of fun. read more

Matt, our tour guide did a great job in entertaining and explaining the ghostly history of St Augustine. The area has a rich history and it's easily the most haunted place in America. Between plagues, murders, and battles over a 450+ year history, it's no wonder there are so many legends in such a small area here. During our 90 minute tour we walked around several places, including the outside of Castillo de San Marcos and the gates of the city. When it's a smaller group, like mine was, it's much more intimate and interactive. You can purchase either at the store or at the old town trolley stops. read more

My wife and I have been on a few ghost tours, even one in St. Augustine before. We loved this one the most. Our guide Hippie (not hippy) was the best. Excellent story teller, kind, respectful (of both the living and the dead), and fun. The best part was getting the spooky story we all want and love, but then getting history and and some corrections along the way. He also knows how to work a crowd. We all had fun. We love ghost tours and we couldn't ask for a better guide than Hippie for the first tour with our kids. The cherry on the top of all this is that Ghostly Encounter was the cheapest price in town for a ghost tour. read more

This tour was amazing and several people in the group either saw orbs in their pictures or smelled roses in the cemetery. The guide was Jennifer who was very welcoming, knowledgeable and humorous. She was thoughtful to the members on the tour. This was not my fist choice ghost tour, but was my second. First was booked out and this one was still available for a 9:40 show. The 90 min tour, to me was very do-able. We had my mom who was turning 80 with us. And got around fine. The tour guide - Jan was very passionate about her informative experience/story with great facts. How Ironic, I went on the Ghostly Encounter almost 6 years to to the day. Didnt even realize this until I was looking for my reviews. First, let me tell you, it was a positive experience from the getgo. I had booked this tour for my bestie as she is a history buff for our girls trip because I had remembered how fun it was for me and my daughters. On this visit, looking at the weather report, we were in for some serious bad weather about an hour into our 8:40 start time.. I called and spoke to Lisa about the tour possibility of being cancelled..I explained we were from out of town and staying about 1/2 hour away. She tentatively put my name on two earlier tours so depending on how long I took to get there, I'd have a spot at either one. Talk about putting me at ease that our plans didn't have to be canceled. Wow sooo glad we got on the 8 pm tour. Matt the undertaker was our "Ghosty Hosty". He apparently has been doing ghost tours for 17 years and he is definitely passionate about the after life stories surrounding St. Augustine and enjoys sharing with all ages the history of the town. He kept the content G rated as there were families with young children. This definitely is a tour suitable for all ages. This guy even fits the part of an "undertaker " with his tall hat and lantern ..creepy in a good way... he was very concerned with our safety and he and his lantern acted as a crossing guard the entire evening. As I saw other tours around and listened to the guides , I was assured by what I was hearing, that after all these years, this tour is still number #1 in my books and my friend thoroughly enjoyed her first ghost tour and I'm sure highly recommends it to others. We booked this tour last minute and were so glad we did. Hippie was so personable and really made the whole tour worth it. He had a great personality who took his time really explaining stories and making sure we had time to take pictures and look around. While I wish we had gotten to actually go in the paranormal spots or see paranormal experiences, it was a really busy night and he explained why the spirits energy wouldn't be as prominent, which I really appreciated. I did send an email directly to the company, but they haven't responded. We went on a ghost tour on Saturday May 21 at 8pm. Booking itself was easy, however on line it prompted me if I wanted to upgrade to these meteors and ghost stuff, which it sounded fun, so I added. Well, we get there were ushered off not given the 10 dollars of upgrades I paid for (I thought maybe we get those later) ,only to go on the most convoluted and confusion "ghost tour". Our guide kept losing her place in stories and apologizing and just moving on. Wished I would have booked literally any other tour, also noticed at least 2 people opted to not even complete the tour. We were disappointed in the lack of historical accuracies (the Huguenots we're not a Native American tribe, and the Castillo's moat held water for several decades not 7 days, etc) and the lack of storytelling technique. The guide's yelling at pedestrians and passing cars was distracting and his complaining about being tired from working all day was unprofessional. We were really looking forward to be regaled with stories of such an interesting city; we left feeling like we had wasted our money. read more

We happened upon this great little Hidden Gem in st. Augustine. We were actually walking to do a different ghost tour and found this great little shop off the side street. Art tour guide Dusty gave us a great history of various locations throughout St Augustine. Spooky stories and locations throughout the city were plentiful. The tour lasted an hour and a half and we got to see plenty of locations throughout the city. Our favorite part was at the end of the night when we went into the ghostly encounter shop with all the lights out and heard about the ghost stories from the cemetery next door. This was by far the most affordable ghost tour we found and one of the best ones we have taken. You can't go wrong! read more
