We did a Ghost Tour last night with "Ghostly Encounter"...I know, a ghost tour-at Xmas time! Haha! But we've done all the "normal" Nights of Lights tours and so wanted something different to do on this trip. So glad we picked this tour!! We had Ellie as our tour guide/story teller and she was really terrific. We've done other ghost tours-in Savannah, St Augustine, New Orleans, key west...even though we really enjoy them, many end up being very corny. Not the case with this one and was by far the best one we've done. My son said it best-"she was interesting to listen to and didn't try to convince me that ghosts were real!" I love history and I love historical stories-this tour definitely delivered. Not to mention that the stories actually scared me a bit!! #1 tip: book online in advance-they sell out! #travelwiththekirklands

Oh my goodness so much fun it's scary. Our tour guide was Blanco, who is an amazing story teller! We did the 90minute version which takes you to several places with all kinds of history to absorb. We were with a very respectful group which I appreciated. The story's are able to be fact checked and it's really worth the cost associated to hear the history and culture of St. Augustine!

Blanco was the best tour guide we could ask for! He was such a great story teller. He gave so many details and knew how to let the suspense build. Highly recommend!

Check in here - A wooden building features a door with a sign for Ghostly Encounter, a ghost tour business in St. Augustine, FL, with a street address of 12 St. George Street, nighttime setting.

What a great group. Everyone was super welcoming and friendly. This tour is dog friendly for well behaved leashed fur children. (We had 6 fur kids on our tour.) They all asked to live on each pet and have dog treats. Jan, was a wonderful, knowledgeable historian, who told us with stories from long ago. She was very passionate about St. Augustine and honoring the history and stories of those who have passed, but are still in the city. An excellent way to learn some history and hear about personal encounters. The whole experience was fantastic.

Had a great experience with Blanco tonight! He was very knowledgeable in the history of the city and a great story teller with touches of humor. Highly recommend this tour.

Matt, our tour guide did a great job in entertaining and explaining the ghostly history of St Augustine. The area has a rich history and it's easily the most haunted place in America. Between plagues, murders, and battles over a 450+ year history, it's no wonder there are so many legends in such a small area here. During our 90 minute tour we walked around several places, including the outside of Castillo de San Marcos and the gates of the city. When it's a smaller group, like mine was, it's much more intimate and interactive. You can purchase either at the store or at the old town trolley stops.

Had an all around great experience with this team. Called a few weeks in advance and spoke with Diane for booking. We were greeted and serviced by Lisa the day of our tour. Our tour guide was Matt - he was great! Super knowledgeable, quick with information, and friendly. Highly recommend this as a family event. Our entire family adults and kids took part and really had fun. Next time, I will make sure my younger kids have a late nap:) Can't say ENOUGH great things about Lisa also. She was A++++++ Thanks so much!!!

We gathered at the storefront, and almost immediately my dog started acting confused and scared. He's an 80 lb pitbull, and get doesn't really get scared of anything. At one point, he lept into my husband's arms (a move solely used at the vet's office). As soon as all of the patrons had arrived, Scott, our storyteller, told us about a little ghost girl Lily that lives in that building. She will often play with marbles and a doll in that same room. My husband and I have no doubt that she was petting the dog and that's what freaked him out. It was a great beginning to our ghost tour for sure. Scott then spent the next 2 hours taking us from place to place telling us about ghost encounters in the buildings that we were standing in front of. He was immersed in the history of St Augustine, even being a volunteer archaeologist and helping move parts of history. His storytelling skills were second to none. Even our dog, who had walked ALL day long around St Augustine, stayed close to Scott trying to listen to the stories and was excited as we moved to each place. It was a slow paced tour so you don't have to worry about being physically fit to partake. It was a well-spent 2 hours that my husband and I truly enjoyed. The dog enjoyed it too, except for being petted by the ghost Lily. We highly recommend this tour! Thank you, Scott, for such a fun adventure!

His ghost stories were right on par and none of that tacky paranormal equipment or fabricated sightings. We were lucky enough to be the only 2 souls who signed up this particular Thursday. He could have cancelled, rushed through the tour or lost interest due to our group size but this was NOT the case. At one point, we steered questions towards the general history of St Augustine and there wasn't a single question he could not answer! I would highly recommend this tour to everyone, family or just adults.

Walking tour operator…read more I took the opportunity to join my kids school trip to St. Augustine as a chaperone and as part of that, the school engaged Ancient City Tours as our guide for the day. The guide we had was Matt. Matt with the hat to be exact- because, you guessed it, he wore a hat. Easy to find if you were lagging behind - and easy to remember. Matt and his Hat made the day memorable- he certainly knew a lot of the St. Augustine history and was able to keep all the group engaged- kids, adults and even the teachers. He was super flexible with our group and overall, he made the day much better than I could have done on my own. Shout out to Matt and the Ancient City Tours team.

Our guide, Cindra, just wasn't a great fit for kids--or honestly even for the adults in our group. She was very strict--expecting students to walk in perfectly straight single-file lines and not touch anything at all. I understand needing structure, but it felt unrealistic for 10-year-olds and came across as more harsh than helpful. At one point, the students were told they couldn't even touch the coquina stone the fort is built from, with the implication that they might damage it. That felt like overkill, considering the fort has been standing for over 400 years and has withstood hurricanes, cannon fire, and everything else--so a brief, supervised touch didn't seem unreasonable for a learning experience. Her tone also came across as sarcastic at times. On the second day, when students remembered information from the previous day, she responded with, "Wow, you were listening," which felt more dismissive than encouraging. What stood out even more was how she interacted with the adults. Parents were told they needed to ask permission to step away for something as simple as getting a coffee or using the restroom, and some were scolded when they didn't follow that expectation. That felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. I also overheard her making negative comments about a few of the boys in our group, which felt unprofessional. Because of all this, many of the students didn't enjoy the tour as much as they could have. On the flip side, the other half of our group had a different guide who was warm, engaging, and clearly knew how to work with kids--and it made a huge difference. St. Augustine is a great place for a field trip, but I'd definitely recommend asking about your guide ahead of time, especially if you're bringing students.
