Its a short distance to the highway as well. We arrived late in the evening and there was so much going on. Broad street was buzzing with activity and everything is right at your doorstep. There are two reserved parking spots at the back of the house near the main entrance. At night (after 10, I'd say) there's plenty of street parking as well. The inn had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, blankets, pillows and towels. The kitchens were stocked with a wide variety of kitchen essentials. Upon arrival the place was pretty clean aside for some spider webs. There is a tv with DVR and Netflix which was VERY much appreciated. We were able to play some wedding themed movies while pampering and prepping for the big day! My only complaint is that there isn't enough lightening, especially downstairs. It can also get really cold because of all of the Windows downstairs. Bundle up and turn on a heater in the fall and winter months! Loved this place, I would definitely stay again.

We went in December 2016 with friends and couldn't wait to come back again so did a second visit in March 2017. The guest house itself is newly remodeled, beautifully appointed, and a great headquarters for exploring the sanctuary and the surrounding area. A staff person is assigned to take care of you while you're at the house and prepares a bountiful breakfast of bagels, fruit, and cereal. She also makes sure everything goes smoothly during your stay and is an awesome host. There are three bedrooms, two of which have bunk beds so you can bring a big group if you want. You can just reserve a couple of beds and share a room with other guests, or you can reserve the entire room or even the entire guesthouse. They are not always full, so chances are even if you just reserve a couple of beds, you may have the room to your self anyway. The staff are all very passionate about the work they do for the animals, and we loved being able to support the mission of the sanctuary by staying here rather than paying for some random AirBnB. Of course the biggest reason to stay here is easy access to the animals. On weekends you'll get a private tour included with your stay, and that included getting up close with the goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, sheep, and cows. And you're not just meeting any old animals--you're meeting survivors who will inspire you. We brought two teenagers who loved the tour but you could easily bring younger kids. We can't wait to go back and can't recommend this experience enough! #Life-changing!

The nearby towns of Penn Valley and Nevada city were higher end then a lot of the other western towns I had been to around California and had some great dining options. We were able to visit the mining museum and stop over in Tahoe to see some snow for the kids. The estate also had a great hot tub and we were able to bbq steaks at night and there was plenty of outdoor space for dining. We had a great restful time and it was a great weekend getaway. Pam even made us home made breakfast and dinner which was also delightful! Highly recommend!

I searched and searched for the perfect place and this was it. I was traveling with family and friends, including two energetic 7 year old girls who are nuts for animals (with the attention span of a gnat). Pam's place is majestic, a quick hour to skiing, hiking, etc. At first we felt we were MILES into the sticks but once we got our bearings it was a very quick 10-minute drive out to the store. We didn't cook much but if we had to there were pots and pans, a nice-sized cuisinart hot plate (everything there is top of the line!!), a Kuerig coffee pot with biodegradable pods (which we appreciated). The wine fridge was enough to keep some groceries if you wanted. And by groceries, I stored beer in there. The kids loved movie night on the big screen TV, doing crafts around the beautiful kitchen table, and of course going down to see the horses. The large tub, we couldnt get them out of it...which was absolutely perfect, they were filthy at the end of each day! We enjoyed the massive show the sky gave us come night time! Stars galore! Pam was over the top generous with her time. Memories of the ranch and the space Pam has created for her furry, four-legged family will live warmly in our hearts until we return.

We arrived before check in time and Andrea greeted us with a smile and offered to check us in early. I told her I have sleeping issues and could we be placed in a quiet area with a room. She said she knew the building with rooms 163-170. When we got to the room it was nice and warm, (a problem that we had at The Pines, a small space heater only because the wall unit wasn't working and no maintenance on the property.) We're old and there's good lighting for night time on the exterior. I left the party at 9 PM and stopped by the office for an extra blanket. The two women working were friendly and helpful. The bathroom had a new shower, glass doors and a rain shower head. I always bring my grey slippers for travel. The carpet was very clean and I was so pleased because I'm not used to that. I booked a stay in a suite (separate bedroom) via hotels.com. When I arrived around 9pm on Thanksgiving night, I was informed by hotel staff that a suite was not available, as someone had broken into our room. The police were still onsite, so we were likely just moments from either discovering the intruder in our room or having an attempting break-in while we were in the room. Hotel staff said the door separating this suite from the adjacent suite had been taken off the hinges, and that there were no remaining suites available as a result -- they would have to put us in a single room. Less than ideal, given the sleeping habits of my 4yr old and 2yr old, but I understood the staff had little choice in the matter. It was late and my first priority was getting my little ones to bed, so I accepted the room downgrade quickly and without clarification on a potential refund of the difference in cost. I found it strange that the hotel staff would mention to me that the intruder had claimed to be me, but then I realized that the staff had discovered him in the room and asked him, "are you S___ D___?" A little strange to realize that the last thing the guy heard before police arrived was my name. Still stranger that one of the staff offered me the room with the caveat that there was still "a hole in the wall". The other staff member reminded her that "we're not supposed to do that!". Still, I declined the offer. Our substitute room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and had stains on one of the comforters. It was very late, so my wife and I agreed to postpone any complaints until morning. We just needed to get the kids to sleep. The next morning, I chatted with Hotels.com about the booking discrepancy, and they informed me that the hotel was insisting that we were provided the room we had booked (the suite). I went to the front desk to report our issues, and the employees said they had no authority to adjust costs or issue refunds. I told them that my family would be departing due to the hotel's inability to provide us with the room we booked and due to the condition of the substitute room. The front desk staff told me that I should expect to hear from the manager by noon that day (Friday). I called at 12:10pm, and again around 4pm. I have called twice again since, bringing the total up to four calls. Each time, I am either told that I just missed the manager (Hamid) and I should call back or was told that I was being transferred to the manager, only to have the call go to voicemail. It sure seems like management is avoiding my calls, as I have confirmed multiple times that my contact info has been passed along. I will update the review if I am able to make contact.

Our son was turning one month and that is exactly what we were looking for, a couple of days away from the busy city life. We didn't want noises of cars driving by, people roaming the streets and having conversations outside of your bedroom window. I came across this place while surfing airbnb and we couldn't have been any happier that we found it. Briana was a great host! She gave me a call within a few hours of me booking the place online. She advised me that it would be smart to have all of my grocery shopping done prior to arriving at Casa Bella Verde as there are no stores in the immediate area and she also advised me of the unpaved road that is leading up to the house when you turn off the main road. Having the knowledge of these things was very helpful. The "guest house" that you stay in has everything that you might need to have a weekend (or even longer) of relaxation. The guest house is very modern with the amenities one might need and not need. We were particularly fans of the jacuzzi hot tub which is big enough to fit 4 adults. We enjoyed having our morning coffee on the deck which has some amazing views. As a host, we couldn't have asked for a better one. When we got there she did a walk through with us to explain to us on how all of the gadgets work (everything is very high tech.) The fridge was stocked with eggs, some english muffins, and orange juice. As we were making dinner we realized we forgot olive oil and balsamic, I had asked Briana is she by chance had any and without a doubt she did. Within a couple of minutes of me asking I was able to walk over to the main house and there was what we had asked for on the kitchen counter. Thank you for everything Briana and I look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

5 Stars for Nancy, Best Customer Service ever!…read more Coloma Cottages is a private resort on the river. There are a few different cottages you can rent, we were in # 6 Riverhaus. Two days prior to arriving you will receive an email with current info on how to check in. You will basically text the manager, Nancy, 30 minutes prior to arrival to get your code for the security gates. Once you enter she will be there to greet you and get you settled in. The Riverhaus is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage. You have a front porch under the roof with a couple of benches. There is a living room with a couch (pulls out to a bed), a fully stocked kitchen of pots, pans, utensils, plates, etc. The kitchen counter has seating for 2, but there is no actually dining table inside. The bedrooms are small but have comfortable beds, and the bathroom has a small counter so there is not a lot of room for stuff. Great water pressure though! There is an a/c unit in the living room and TV's but no service. There is Roku in the bedroom and DVD's and VHS tapes to watch in the living room. Good wifi thoughout. There is a small back porch with a table and 4 chairs to eat at and it has an umbrella. There is normally a charcoal BBQ that you can use, however because of the fire risk being high we were not able to BBQ. There is also a laundry room on site if you are staying longer term. You are on the river, and there is some access, though it is rocky, no beach area Positives: *Nancy! She is wonderful, super great personality and always willing to help *Kitchen has lots of items in it, I did not feel like I was missing anything *Beds and pillows were comfortable *Great water pressure Could have been better: *We did not know about the not being able to use the BBQ so we spent money on charcoal and food and then could not use it. I wish the email sent out 2 days prior had told us this. Thank you Nancy for providing excellent customer service, you are a blessing!

And yes, you will be reminded at every communication that you need to read them. Including a text the day before you check in. If you ask any questions, they'll send it to you like you've seen in other Yelper's reviews. Unlike hotels or AirBnBs, be aware that the rate is for just 2 people. They will charge $50 more per person. We had a little one with us and we were charged $50 more per night. (And yes, they will meet you at check-in to make sure you don't bring extra people!) Our cottage had a queen bed and a sofa bed. Presumably with the extra charge, we would have been given enough towels and linen for 3. Nope. There were towels for 2. And the sofa bed was a bare mattress with a throw without a sheet. We didn't complain since we brought our own linen. Despite being charged a cleaning fee of $50, know that you will still need to haul all of your trash to a trash bin 50 - 100 feet of your cottage. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the place is tired and old: filthy floors, dusty baseboards, tight shower knobs, weak AC, broken porch light... The deck didn't have the nice furniture that was in the photos. Yes, it's river front but getting down to the river is treacherous with many jagged rocks and makeshift steps - exercise caution with kids and elderly. There are no banks, just jagged rocks. We were here in April and it is very, very buggy - lots of mosquitoes and big flying bugs were found in the house every night. Just one screen door. No screens on any of the windows or front door. Beware - they are sticklers with checking out. We left the cottage on time but decided to take a few last minute photos near the river. After paying $2000 for 2 cottages for 3 nights, we were charged - after Danika / Sherry gave us a discount - an additional $25 for not having left the premises on time! We would not recommend this place and certainly will not be visiting again.
