Beautiful fall colors around the Inn.

It was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and I really enjoyed my stay at the Lamb's Victornian Inn. The hosts were great, very nice and friendly. They had wonderful compimentary freshly baked cookies when we arrived in the evening. The breakfast granola they served with the fresh fruit and yogurt were also delicious. The location of the Inn is a couple of blocks from downtown Grass Valley. An easy walk. They have a good variety of shops and eating places (restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlor, etc..) Nevada City where they have the old historic buildings is a short drive away. Their was also a Christmas Bazaar at the Church across from the Inn. They sold arts and crafts, some antinques, home made jams, and lunch plates. They have the bazaar every year, the first weekend of November. The shops downtonw also have their Christmas Sales the first weekend of November. Will certainly keep that in mind for next year's visit. It was a perfect time to visit Grass Valley with the changing color of the leaves.. The weather was perfect, low 70s. Will defiinately be returning. It's only 3 hours away from San Francisco. Willl also have to see how Grass Valley looks like in the spring.

We had a very nice talk with Janet and John over breakfast about living in small towns, having kids, etc.

The property is listed as a B&B on several platforms, the website features breakfast imagery, and the booking form asks for dietary restrictions, so we reasonably assumed breakfast and access to common areas were part of the experience. Instead, Room 2 functions more like a small private room rental with limited access to the house. We were surprised to learn upon arrival that we did not have access to the main house common areas. For us, shared spaces are a major part of what makes staying in a bed and breakfast enjoyable. The room itself was also extremely small. With a queen bed and a twin bed in the room, there was essentially no space to move around comfortably and no seating area at all. For three guests, there was nowhere to sit except on the beds, and simply walking around the room was difficult due to the tight layout. Breakfast was also not served. Two muffins were left for us despite the reservation being for three guests, and despite the booking form asking for dietary restrictions. We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts over the years throughout California--both coastal and wine country--and the experiences we've loved have always included warm hospitality, welcoming hosts, shared spaces to relax in, and memorable breakfasts. The common thread in these stays is that guests are encouraged to enjoy the home itself, interact with hosts, and relax in shared spaces. That sense of hospitality and atmosphere is the reason we choose B&Bs. While the building at The Parsonage is historic, Room 2 itself felt very modern and generic rather than reflecting the character of a historic inn. To be fair, the owners later pointed out that the website includes a detailed description and a floor plan showing the limited access for Room 2. However, we found the wording easy to misinterpret when booking, particularly given the B&B categorization, breakfast imagery on the site, and the dietary restriction field in the booking form. At approximately $280 for the night (including a $50 fee for a third guest), the experience did not match what we personally expect from a bed-and-breakfast stay. This room may work fine for travelers who simply want a small private room and plan to spend most of their time out in town. However, for guests specifically seeking the hospitality, shared spaces, and atmosphere that typically define a bed-and-breakfast experience, Room 2 may not meet those expectations.

Barbara answered the phone and she was so pleasant and helpful, I knew it wasn't a mistake. Peter greeted us upon our arrival. He was just too sweet! Walked us around, gave us our key, etc. He told us about the various areas of interest and we had a great conversation about where they moved from. I was sorry to not meet Barbara, she was visiting family. The house is darling, lots of antiques and nick-nacks, cabinets full of crystal and old teacups & China, lots of family pictures. It was like walking through my great-grandmother's house. We stayed in the Brunswick room, overlooking the backyard. Quiet & peaceful, like we stepped back in time when things were simple. I was pleased that there was no TV (they do have WiFi, don't panic). Overall, it was a great stay and I hope to visit again.

The breakfast was top notch and did I mention the cookies? Barbara has been making these blue ribbon (the blue ribbon is next to the cookie jar) sugar cookies for over 20 years. I knew they were good just by looking at the cookie jar. We even bought 3 dozen to take home. At $.50 per cookie it would have been a deal at twice the price. Check out Elam Biggs. Have a cookie on me.

There are not many B&Bs that make a couple with a kid feel welcome but I am happy to report that we had such a nice experience here. Firstly, the house is full of wonderful pieces of art and collectible items so it's almost like a museum. It's not set up and "staged" like so many B&B's - it's funky and comfortable and feels well-loved. We stayed in The Suite which was quite nice. We picked that room because it has a separate room with a hideaway bed for our son. The light in our room was great and we had plenty of room to relax. Shower got hot fast and stayed hot and had good pressure. This is a big plus as some B&Bs are lacking in this department. : ) Breakfast was yummy and coffee was good. The owners Peggy and Howard felt like family right away. They are very genuine and easy to talk to. We felt welcome and almost part of their family. They were so sweet with our son who took a liking to them and spent every moment he could practicing his magic tricks on them. They are both artists with rich loves and have many stories to tell. I don't Yelp very often but when I saw that they had only 1 other review I had to give them a thumbs up. If you want a down to earth, welcoming, not stuffy or pretentious place to stay in Grass Valley this is the place.
