The property is listed as a B&B on several platforms, the website features breakfast imagery, and the booking form asks for dietary restrictions, so we reasonably assumed breakfast and access to common areas were part of the experience. Instead, Room 2 functions more like a small private room rental with limited access to the house. We were surprised to learn upon arrival that we did not have access to the main house common areas. For us, shared spaces are a major part of what makes staying in a bed and breakfast enjoyable. The room itself was also extremely small. With a queen bed and a twin bed in the room, there was essentially no space to move around comfortably and no seating area at all. For three guests, there was nowhere to sit except on the beds, and simply walking around the room was difficult due to the tight layout. Breakfast was also not served. Two muffins were left for us despite the reservation being for three guests, and despite the booking form asking for dietary restrictions. We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts over the years throughout California--both coastal and wine country--and the experiences we've loved have always included warm hospitality, welcoming hosts, shared spaces to relax in, and memorable breakfasts. The common thread in these stays is that guests are encouraged to enjoy the home itself, interact with hosts, and relax in shared spaces. That sense of hospitality and atmosphere is the reason we choose B&Bs. While the building at The Parsonage is historic, Room 2 itself felt very modern and generic rather than reflecting the character of a historic inn. To be fair, the owners later pointed out that the website includes a detailed description and a floor plan showing the limited access for Room 2. However, we found the wording easy to misinterpret when booking, particularly given the B&B categorization, breakfast imagery on the site, and the dietary restriction field in the booking form. At approximately $280 for the night (including a $50 fee for a third guest), the experience did not match what we personally expect from a bed-and-breakfast stay. This room may work fine for travelers who simply want a small private room and plan to spend most of their time out in town. However, for guests specifically seeking the hospitality, shared spaces, and atmosphere that typically define a bed-and-breakfast experience, Room 2 may not meet those expectations.

We arrived before check in time and Andrea greeted us with a smile and offered to check us in early. I told her I have sleeping issues and could we be placed in a quiet area with a room. She said she knew the building with rooms 163-170. When we got to the room it was nice and warm, (a problem that we had at The Pines, a small space heater only because the wall unit wasn't working and no maintenance on the property.) We're old and there's good lighting for night time on the exterior. I left the party at 9 PM and stopped by the office for an extra blanket. The two women working were friendly and helpful. The bathroom had a new shower, glass doors and a rain shower head. I always bring my grey slippers for travel. The carpet was very clean and I was so pleased because I'm not used to that. I told my hubby, this is where we are staying in the future when we drive down to see the family.

I booked a stay in a suite (separate bedroom) via hotels.com. When I arrived around 9pm on Thanksgiving night, I was informed by hotel staff that a suite was not available, as someone had broken into our room. The police were still onsite, so we were likely just moments from either discovering the intruder in our room or having an attempting break-in while we were in the room. Hotel staff said the door separating this suite from the adjacent suite had been taken off the hinges, and that there were no remaining suites available as a result -- they would have to put us in a single room. Less than ideal, given the sleeping habits of my 4yr old and 2yr old, but I understood the staff had little choice in the matter. It was late and my first priority was getting my little ones to bed, so I accepted the room downgrade quickly and without clarification on a potential refund of the difference in cost. I found it strange that the hotel staff would mention to me that the intruder had claimed to be me, but then I realized that the staff had discovered him in the room and asked him, "are you S___ D___?" A little strange to realize that the last thing the guy heard before police arrived was my name. Still stranger that one of the staff offered me the room with the caveat that there was still "a hole in the wall". The other staff member reminded her that "we're not supposed to do that!". Still, I declined the offer. Our substitute room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and had stains on one of the comforters. It was very late, so my wife and I agreed to postpone any complaints until morning. We just needed to get the kids to sleep. The next morning, I chatted with Hotels.com about the booking discrepancy, and they informed me that the hotel was insisting that we were provided the room we had booked (the suite). I went to the front desk to report our issues, and the employees said they had no authority to adjust costs or issue refunds. I told them that my family would be departing due to the hotel's inability to provide us with the room we booked and due to the condition of the substitute room. The front desk staff told me that I should expect to hear from the manager by noon that day (Friday). I called at 12:10pm, and again around 4pm. I have called twice again since, bringing the total up to four calls. Each time, I am either told that I just missed the manager (Hamid) and I should call back or was told that I was being transferred to the manager, only to have the call go to voicemail. It sure seems like management is avoiding my calls, as I have confirmed multiple times that my contact info has been passed along. I will update the review if I am able to make contact.
