Tip envelope! Truth...

The owners were *so* nice. We were looking for a place to stay and we decided to give this a shot. Glad we did. We decided to stay an extra night and we are debating if we want to stay a third night.

Cute. Cute. Cute!!! What a great cozy little place. We had reserved the constellation rm but due to the 16 days of rsin our region received there was an issue. We were upgraded to the 'fishing shack' , ok!! Kitchenette, the creek flowing! We were very pleasantly surprised and hapoy to say the least!! Can wait to stay in every room and enjoy the ambience. Thank you Outside Inn!! See you again!!

Rock Climbing Suite

I'll begin by describing the generosity of the owners of the Outside Inn. We made reservations to stay here in April 2000 for a special occasion. We had to cancel due to COVID. They offered to refund our money, but we asked to get a certificate to use for a future date. A year later, they extended the expiration of our certificate for another year. Thank you!!! We chose to stay in the Rock Climbing Suite because this room, from online pictures we checked, had a table where we could have meals, two cozy seats in which to read and enjoy a beverage, and a king bed. When we arrived, we discovered that the room is an end room, with plenty of space. Plus, there are windows allowing natural light into the room from three sides (with the bathroom door open). In front, there is a bench as well as a small table and two bistro chairs behind a small privacy hedge. Parking is directly in front of the room. Couldn't be more convenient. And what a blast from the past staying in a motor hotel! The kitchen had utensils, plates, bowls, a cutting board, fridge, pans, two-burner stove, coffee maker, microwave, wine glasses, glass tumblers, and a toaster. The kind bed was very comfortable. The room actually has a wall that you can climb, but we didn't take advantage of it. The trash can and the leg of the bathroom counter/sink is wrapped in climbing rope. Another fun touch! The bathroom is twice the size of a normal bathroom, with a shower/tub combo. Convenient and fun additions to the grounds go a long way to creating a warm and welcoming feeling, including art pieces, picnic benches and tables, and a bit of whimsy in the signage. Restaurants and shops are an easy ten minute walk. At night, small green dots are projected on the trees and buildings behind the office. Another nice touch! While we were here, it was extremely quiet. We couldn't hear the other guests in the room next door. Outside is wonderfully peaceful and quiet. We'll be back!

Cocktails with my new friends, lol.

The dish is fabulous bursting with flavor..... an absolute home run. My wife had a half order of biscuits and gravy with 1 egg and was raving about it. The cheddar and chives biscuit was the bomb , excellent sausage gravy on top...... can you say comfort food. My wife has a small appetite so the 1/2 order was more than enough and at 9$ quite a bargain!! You can feel the history of this hotel that dates back to 1856, the bar area is awesome with beautiful woodwork. The historic brick building just draws you in , like "I need to go in there"....... I had seen the dinner menu the night before and it was a little pricy so we decided to try breakfast first and now I can't wait to go back for dinner, if they are putting that much love into breakfast , I'm sure dinner at the National Exchange Hotel will not disappoint !! See you soon, Cheers!!

Debbie and Alexi were wonderful and gave excellent customer care. Our room was mostly good. There is no comfortable seating in the room however, although it may have just been our room. We had a room in the annex section out back. Leaving our room, we were immediately outside in the weather, which wasn't too big of a deal other than it was storming. Additionally, the shower had not had a decent cleaning in a LONG time. Mildew and mold was growing heartily from the floor to about 3 feet up the wall. A little scrub could easily take care of it. Also, the hooks for the towels are right over the toilet so be very careful that your towel doesn't slip off the hook as mine did, or you'll have a toilet water soaked towel. There is absolutely no coffee in the room so you have to go outside in the storm to get to the coffee which isn't open until after 7. Also we were at the coffee station at 7:50 and the one small pot was already almost gone and the 30 minutes we waited for someone to refill it, no one came. The next HUGE problem is the parking. There are no marked spaces for the hotel so good luck getting a spot until after all businesses are closed. We had to move our car 3 times due to the parking regulations of time.

The property is listed as a B&B on several platforms, the website features breakfast imagery, and the booking form asks for dietary restrictions, so we reasonably assumed breakfast and access to common areas were part of the experience. Instead, Room 2 functions more like a small private room rental with limited access to the house. We were surprised to learn upon arrival that we did not have access to the main house common areas. For us, shared spaces are a major part of what makes staying in a bed and breakfast enjoyable. The room itself was also extremely small. With a queen bed and a twin bed in the room, there was essentially no space to move around comfortably and no seating area at all. For three guests, there was nowhere to sit except on the beds, and simply walking around the room was difficult due to the tight layout. Breakfast was also not served. Two muffins were left for us despite the reservation being for three guests, and despite the booking form asking for dietary restrictions. We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts over the years throughout California--both coastal and wine country--and the experiences we've loved have always included warm hospitality, welcoming hosts, shared spaces to relax in, and memorable breakfasts. The common thread in these stays is that guests are encouraged to enjoy the home itself, interact with hosts, and relax in shared spaces. That sense of hospitality and atmosphere is the reason we choose B&Bs. While the building at The Parsonage is historic, Room 2 itself felt very modern and generic rather than reflecting the character of a historic inn. To be fair, the owners later pointed out that the website includes a detailed description and a floor plan showing the limited access for Room 2. However, we found the wording easy to misinterpret when booking, particularly given the B&B categorization, breakfast imagery on the site, and the dietary restriction field in the booking form. At approximately $280 for the night (including a $50 fee for a third guest), the experience did not match what we personally expect from a bed-and-breakfast stay. This room may work fine for travelers who simply want a small private room and plan to spend most of their time out in town. However, for guests specifically seeking the hospitality, shared spaces, and atmosphere that typically define a bed-and-breakfast experience, Room 2 may not meet those expectations.

We arrived before check in time and Andrea greeted us with a smile and offered to check us in early. I told her I have sleeping issues and could we be placed in a quiet area with a room. She said she knew the building with rooms 163-170. When we got to the room it was nice and warm, (a problem that we had at The Pines, a small space heater only because the wall unit wasn't working and no maintenance on the property.) We're old and there's good lighting for night time on the exterior. I left the party at 9 PM and stopped by the office for an extra blanket. The two women working were friendly and helpful. The bathroom had a new shower, glass doors and a rain shower head. I always bring my grey slippers for travel. The carpet was very clean and I was so pleased because I'm not used to that. I told my hubby, this is where we are staying in the future when we drive down to see the family.

I booked a stay in a suite (separate bedroom) via hotels.com. When I arrived around 9pm on Thanksgiving night, I was informed by hotel staff that a suite was not available, as someone had broken into our room. The police were still onsite, so we were likely just moments from either discovering the intruder in our room or having an attempting break-in while we were in the room. Hotel staff said the door separating this suite from the adjacent suite had been taken off the hinges, and that there were no remaining suites available as a result -- they would have to put us in a single room. Less than ideal, given the sleeping habits of my 4yr old and 2yr old, but I understood the staff had little choice in the matter. It was late and my first priority was getting my little ones to bed, so I accepted the room downgrade quickly and without clarification on a potential refund of the difference in cost. I found it strange that the hotel staff would mention to me that the intruder had claimed to be me, but then I realized that the staff had discovered him in the room and asked him, "are you S___ D___?" A little strange to realize that the last thing the guy heard before police arrived was my name. Still stranger that one of the staff offered me the room with the caveat that there was still "a hole in the wall". The other staff member reminded her that "we're not supposed to do that!". Still, I declined the offer. Our substitute room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and had stains on one of the comforters. It was very late, so my wife and I agreed to postpone any complaints until morning. We just needed to get the kids to sleep. The next morning, I chatted with Hotels.com about the booking discrepancy, and they informed me that the hotel was insisting that we were provided the room we had booked (the suite). I went to the front desk to report our issues, and the employees said they had no authority to adjust costs or issue refunds. I told them that my family would be departing due to the hotel's inability to provide us with the room we booked and due to the condition of the substitute room. The front desk staff told me that I should expect to hear from the manager by noon that day (Friday). I called at 12:10pm, and again around 4pm. I have called twice again since, bringing the total up to four calls. Each time, I am either told that I just missed the manager (Hamid) and I should call back or was told that I was being transferred to the manager, only to have the call go to voicemail. It sure seems like management is avoiding my calls, as I have confirmed multiple times that my contact info has been passed along. I will update the review if I am able to make contact.
