She collaborated with our vendors promptly and effectively. She was candid about her expectations and humored our silliest asks! Although guest parking is a bit of a trek from ceremony/party space, it is wheelchair accessible and it's set up in such a way that a member of the party can "valet" for those who might be unable to walk up the hill. The space is a California dream. Lush wedding lawn, surrounded by evergreens, there is a small lake and even a cute swing set and trampoline! My only wish is that I'd met her (and her husband) BEFORE we were getting married so we'd have the privilege of having them as GUESTS instead of a VENDOR at our wedding.

I've DJed here twice now, and both times the sound was definitely monitored pretty closely by the venue owner. There's a decibel reader mounted on a tree near the DJ area, and I was told the music needed to stay under 75 dB. Both times, once dancing started, the owner was standing near me watching the sound level, pointing at the meter and asking me to turn it down. This even happened around 8 PM when the sun was still out. I'm starting to notice this more and more with certain wedding venues. Years ago, you showed up as the DJ, set up your sound system and rocked the party. Now at some venues, it feels like people get nervous the second they see you bringing in subwoofers. I completely understand venues have neighbors, property restrictions and rules they have to follow, but couples should know about those restrictions before choosing a venue if having a loud dance party is important to them. There was also a funny situation during load-in. I backed my vehicle in and one of the staff members told me I couldn't park where I was because I had driven onto the grass. I moved immediately. There were already other tire marks there, but afterward they actually asked me to rake the grass so it looked like I hadn't driven on it. In all my years DJing weddings, that was definitely a first . But I grabbed the rake and did it. Overall, the property itself is beautiful and has great views. My main reason for leaving this review is just so couples know what to expect. Based on my experience DJing there twice, if your priority is having a loud, high-energy dance party with substantial bass, this probably wouldn't be my first recommendation because of the sound restrictions and how closely the decibel level is monitored. If louder music isn't important to you and you're okay with those restrictions, then the venue itself is a beautiful setting for a wedding.

Not to mention one of the smoke detectors batteries was going out which was highly annoying while getting ready. Don't waste your money on the "Barn Loot". The sweetheart tables were all broken with wobbly legs. Erica is also quite something. During our tour, I notified her we would have less than 100 guests to which she told me she could coordinate at no cost. Just a couple months before the wedding she decided to not keep her word and essentially told me that my husband and I were lying about her having said that. So wedding day I did not have a coordinator. My friend (who is familiar with the caretaking of cows and steer) notified me the cattle was very poorly cared for. If you're hoping for a wedding day that is problem free, do not choose this place.

My daughter recently had her wedding at the Elk's Lodge in Nevada City. First off let me say that…read morethe venue was perfect. Plenty of room with a full bar, stage and large commercial kitchen. However with that said many things went wrong. The grooms family wanted to do the cooking. When we asked if we could use their kitchen , at first they said no. Then they said we could use it if we paid for their chef to be present while we were using it. Not an ideal situation, but we agreed to it. We wanted to rent their plates and silverware and they refused saying that we couldn't use them because they were not doing the catering. I then had to go to a local rental company and rent plates and silverware. I paid almost $400 for that rental. Seems to me that the Elks Lodge could have made an extra $400 if they rented us the dinnerware. Go figure! During the months prior to the wedding, communication was less than perfect. No return phone calls, missed appointment, etc. We were working with a woman named Shawn. Shawn didn't recall many of the arrangements than were made, and had it not been for saved text's to prove we had agreed on certain things, we would have been in trouble. The day prior to the wedding, we paid for the use of Lodge and kitchen at 3:00. We received a call saying the chef had no transportation and they were going to be late. The wedding day I have to admit that the Lodge looked beautiful. Of course we provided all the decorations. However I want to give credit where credit is due. A member of the lodge, Mike set up all the tables and all of the chairs outside. He did an awesome job. Mike was kind enough to do this voluntarily. The wedding itself went pretty smoothly with one exception. We had to purchase the wine and champagne from the Elks Lodge. I ordered way too much. There was two bottles on every table. In addition there was about three more cases as backup if needed. Shawn told the bartenders to open all the wine. So I ended up bringing home all that opened wine which of course would only last a few days. What a waste of money. When I shared with Shawn my dismay on why all the wine got opened, I asked her if she would be willing to reimburse me for the unused open wine. Shawn's replay was, "You ordered it you own it"! Three cases of wine that had to be poured down the drain!!! Just one more note there, the bartenders where on the rude side! When it was time to clean up we had to clean the kitchen. The chef never showed up and we didn't know exactly where things went. They refused to let us use their commercial dishwasher, so we washed everything by hand. I'm wondering what the health department would have to say about that given that kitchenware needs to be cleaned at a certain temperature to be sanitary. All in all, the venue was very nice and the wedding ended up being beautiful! Had it not been for the poor service that Shawn provided I would have easily rated the Lodge a five!
