I cannot say enough good things about the owner, Jan, or her property. Jan was available, supportive, and all around incredibly accommodating. She was so organized, she took away all the stress I was feeling surrounding wedding planning. She even offered us a HUGE list of vendor recommendations!! Super helpful! She collaborated with our vendors promptly and effectively. She was candid about her expectations and humored our silliest asks! Although guest parking is a bit of a trek from ceremony/party space, it is wheelchair accessible and it's set up in such a way that a member of the party can "valet" for those who might be unable to walk up the hill. The space is a California dream. Lush wedding lawn, surrounded by evergreens, there is a small lake and even a cute swing set and trampoline! My only wish is that I'd met her (and her husband) BEFORE we were getting married so we'd have the privilege of having them as GUESTS instead of a VENDOR at our wedding.

The Schrammsberg Estate is definitely a beautiful venue with really nice views. Yes, there are…read moremosquitoes, but it's outdoors, so what can you do lol. I've DJed here twice now, and both times the sound was definitely monitored pretty closely by the venue owner. There's a decibel reader mounted on a tree near the DJ area, and I was told the music needed to stay under 75 dB. Both times, once dancing started, the owner was standing near me watching the sound level, pointing at the meter and asking me to turn it down. This even happened around 8 PM when the sun was still out. I'm starting to notice this more and more with certain wedding venues. Years ago, you showed up as the DJ, set up your sound system and rocked the party. Now at some venues, it feels like people get nervous the second they see you bringing in subwoofers. I completely understand venues have neighbors, property restrictions and rules they have to follow, but couples should know about those restrictions before choosing a venue if having a loud dance party is important to them. There was also a funny situation during load-in. I backed my vehicle in and one of the staff members told me I couldn't park where I was because I had driven onto the grass. I moved immediately. There were already other tire marks there, but afterward they actually asked me to rake the grass so it looked like I hadn't driven on it. In all my years DJing weddings, that was definitely a first . But I grabbed the rake and did it. Overall, the property itself is beautiful and has great views. My main reason for leaving this review is just so couples know what to expect. Based on my experience DJing there twice, if your priority is having a loud, high-energy dance party with substantial bass, this probably wouldn't be my first recommendation because of the sound restrictions and how closely the decibel level is monitored. If louder music isn't important to you and you're okay with those restrictions, then the venue itself is a beautiful setting for a wedding.

It's huge, largely empty, and quiet, perfect for a contemplative experience with your food. At dinnertime on a Friday my nearest neighbors were twenty feet away kneeling at a Japanese-style low table. I got to vibe in the quiet background music and the distant Friday night sounds of downtown. I tried the pork ramen, which felt a bit Americanized (kale, corn, shiitake mushrooms, green onions, half a ramen egg, and spicy ground meat in what appears to be a vegetable broth), but had surprising heat build-up as I ate and a pleasant aftertaste. The real highlight was the tea service. I ordered some red chai, which was served with a small teapot to table-steep it in; a carafe of hot water; and a tea box to pour out the first wash into. The server walked me through the process and the tea was fantastic, with a marvelous spice balance. Next time I think I'll try the poke bowl the other reviewers have enjoyed. It's always been minimal yet warm, but something felt off this time and the one before. The usual calming video of California waves was missing, replaced with a blank wall and '50s oldies music that completely clashed with the vibe. It felt disconnected from what usually made this place so special. **FOOD & DRINK** Ramen: Severely under-seasoned and watery. What used to be a flavorful, hearty bowl now feels lackluster and uninspired. Wakame Salad: The portion was noticeably smaller--20-30% less than usual. Not what I've come to expect from this place. PRICE: $$ I've always been willing to pay premium pricing for the quality, atmosphere, and service, but this time, it just didn't deliver. **SWAG/AMENITIES** - Cozy and unique decor (still a plus) - Menu variety for tea and ramen lovers - Used to have a calming atmosphere (not this time) **STAFF & EXPERIENCE** This is where things really fell apart. The service was slow from the start--30 minutes for drinks, 40+ minutes for ramen. The servers were dry, unpersonable, and barely engaged with us. They didn't introduce themselves or try to make any connection. It's hard not to miss Jenna, who was always warm, kind, and inviting. She had a way of making the experience unforgettable, and maybe even made the food taste better! **FINAL THOUGHTS** Mantra Tea House used to be my favorite spot in town. I came here regularly, twice a month, and never thought I'd feel this let down. The food, service, and atmosphere have all taken a dive, and it's just not the same place I fell in love with. Having visited the Gold country off and on my entire life, I am kind of used to these neat old buildings that dot The Golden Necklace Highway of 49. But this one was unique. It was multi-leveled though not necessarily two stories. If you've ever been to Nevada City you understand that it's actually fairly steep in its terrain so nothing can be completely flat. So whoever built this back in the day utilized to the natural geography in a really cool way. Inside there is a bar in one area, two separate lower level rooms with completely different feels to each of them. And then of course as you come in there is foyer like gathering area. The market itself was awesome and I'll review that separately. I wasn't able to utilize the bar as there was a long line the entire time and only one or two servers so that was a bit of a disappointment. Most of the food was prepackaged again because of the type of event this was. I am not sure how food would be done here for other events. In terms of facilities the bathrooms were well kept in clean, the whole venue seemed to be well taken care of, the small exhibits that were around were in good condition, and everything seemed to be functioning properly. The lighting is a little dim which was made more apparent given the day was a dreary fall afternoon with lots of cloud cover and rain. So it did make looking at some of the items at the market a little more difficult. I did end up using my cell phone flashlight to get a better look at some items. But overall this is a great place! I love the feel of it and I could see lots of events being very cool here. I think a wedding would be super fun though It might be difficult for those who have accessibility needs. That's the last part I want to add to this, accessibility parking. There's like hardly any. In fact parking in general in this entire area is extremely difficult. The parking lot's not very big and as I mentioned earlier this is a multi-level space. So it's not the most accessible to those who have mobility needs. Granted it was built before ADA and I believe it's historical so it would be very difficult to make some of the adjustments to make it more accessible. But something, anything, needs to be done about the parking.
