Just moved to the area and kept hearing about this place. Decided to try it out for dinner one night. We were seated promptly on the outdoor porch area. Our server was amazing. We ordered a Cajun grilled chicken sandwich with a twice baked potato and the coconut shrimp with fries. The food was great. The portions were large but always great for a take home box. The price and views were good too. Would definitely consider giving this place 5 stars but they appear to allow smoking on the beach area below the porch and it kept blowing into the porch area and was rather nauseating. Came through to grab a quick lunch and sat up at the bar to through the entrance and to the right. Its clear this place during a weekend or busy dinner rush would be jam packed with people being so close to the water and all the outdoor seating. On the shelves each bottle of liquor was at least three or four deep, The bar side has seating for a few hundred but I was the only one in there since was around 1pm on a Wednesday. I had the pineapple teriyaki mahi and I would definitley get it again. It was a grilled and spiced right with grilled pineapple and a teriyaki glaze. Can't lie mouth is watering a little bit thinking about it now that I'm back in Arizona and know I wont be having this again anytime soon. I thought this place was great! I love the outdoor seating right on the water. It really sets the mood and makes you feel like you are somewhere else. The bacon wrapped scallops were sublime, I just wanted to order another. The Abaco fish sandwich was really good also. It was nice and crunchy and the flavors went really well together. The lobster and crab cake sandwich was a really tasty sandwich. A must for any crab cake lover. You will even see people docking their boats and stopping in for a bite to eat and a nice cold one. Speaking of cold ones, get yourself a nice cold beer or island drink and let the sand fall between your toes while relaxing on this great waterfront spot. It was really nice and although the price tag was a bit more than what I was expecting, I feel it was worth it. The food was good quality and the drinks were nicely made. The waitress was friendly and helpful which is always a plus. Oh, I almost forgot. They also have live music which really sets the mood. I have been visiting this establishment since it was Chonchy Joe's back in the 90s and I have to say unfortunately it's not the same Over the last few years the food quantity has declined while the prices have severely increased I was also disappointed when I was told I could no longer bring my little dog and I understand that some people ruined this by not cleaning up after their dogs so I understand but it's disappointing The drunken sweet potato is amazing I love the bacon wrapped scallops but I used to get 6 for 13 dollars now it's 18 for 3 that's put them out of my price range the Cuban is always good as is the homemade chips with balsamic glaze and blue cheese Unfortunately the cost of everything is keeping me from frequenting my once favorite local hang as much as I used to The service varies but normally on point Joe is my favorite bartender and I believe he's been there since the original opening of Chonchy's he's been serving me adult beverages since I began visiting there The decor is nice and beachy but please do something about that smell in the inside bar read more

Recently went on vacation to Melbourne and wanted to try this place since it seemed to get good reviews and to try their pineapple coconut bread. My group sat in the covered deck and what an amazing view! Right on the ocean! The covered deck wasn't too crowded but the beach bar and seating was packed. It's obvious this is a favorite among the locals and tourists. We had the crunchy fish sticks as an appetizer and we could not stop raving about them. So fresh!! I don't think I can ever eat frozen again. The bread also lived up to my expectations. My group loved this place so much, we even went a second time before our trip was over. read more

We have always loved Squid Lip so after being gone for 11 months we couldn't wait to go there. We usually set outside but Because the weather was not the best we sat at the bar inside. The bartender was very cold and acted like he was very annoyed that we came in. (There was one other person at the bar) my husband ask if they had coors light on tap he said NO without offering any other choices I said they have Mic Ultra. I ask if they had any drink special's he said No. we ordered a beer and left. ( which we should have just walked out.) I have worked in customer service for 40 year so I get the pain in the ass customer so I am over the top with treating people who work in this industry the upmost respect. I think management needs to check this out if they want to survive this crisis that we're in. read more

The Ahi tuna tartare was well worth the price and we tried smoked fish dip for the first time at the urging of our server/bartender... It was AMAZING! I can't believe I've never tried it before! This place could warrant a 4-star, because we did come in late on a Thursday night, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt that it's probably better during more peak hours. Disclaimer aside, I came here due to Yelp reviews and wasn't that impressed. Highlights: - THE COCONUT BREAD - Atmosphere - Servers Lowlights: - Seasoning - Freezer vegetables We came in near closing, so I'm going to assume the food quality may have been a reflection of the end of night cleanup. Still, some of it I fear may be a normal problem. The crunchy fish finger appetizer was well cooked, definitely crunchy, but the breading lacked flavor...since you're using whitefish, seasoning is a must in this type of dish. Glad it was free (thanks to a Yelp check-in special!). Mediocre appetizer experience aside, the coconut bread more than made up for it. I would return just to get more of it. In fact, we were barely through our first slice when we started making plans to purchase a few loaves to go. It's slightly sweet with a distinct coconut flavor and every once in a while you'd hit a solid flake of flavor and crunch, totally worth visiting just for this bread. As for entrees, my friend David had a shrimp caesar wrap that didn't taste like any caesar dressing either of us had ever experienced (and not in a good way, it may have just been ranch with some parmesan and garlic thrown in). It was also mostly all wrap and came with plain lays potato chips as a side. Shrimp were unremarkable. I had the stuffed flounder with veggies and roasted red potatoes. Flounder doesn't have much flavor, so you have to rely on good seasoning and/or stuffing. The seasoning was barely there (probably a house/table salt) and there was some sort of onion-cream-butter sauce...I'm not quite sure what was going on there, it was slightly brown/red/butter colored and had some minced onion. The stuffing was the only highlight, nicely done with a crab-cake type mix, it was at least fresh crab, not krab. Their crab cakes must be pretty good if this is what they're made of. The vegetables were the true travesty of the plate - they were the generic straight out of the freezer and into a boiling pot of water blend. The circular cut carrots, micro shavings of red peppers, rigid green beans, and yellow...things (squash?). This is probably one of my biggest issues at restaurants - if you're going to claim fresh seafood, at least have the decency to do fresh vegetables, too. The roasted potatoes were way overly salted/seasoned to the point where I was scraping it off. All that aside, I have to tip my hat to the waitresses, who were still super attentive and cheerful even though we were a late table. When we asked for some bread to go, she cringed and said they had just thrown out the leftovers. But even better, she got us two loaves that were partially baked. She told us that's how they prepare them for the next day, and when they serve them they pop them in the oven for 7 minutes to finish baking and serve fresh. We tried it and yes, it was amazing. So all in all, I'm sure there are good things on the menu, and should I stop in again I'll probably try the crab cakes based on the flounder stuffing, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to return (unless I was really jonesing for that bread). read more

I have heard lots of folks saying Squid Lips, let's go to Squid Lips, Squid Lips on the island... etc so when I was driving somewhere else and saw it I pulled in and was happy to give it a go. I think next time I will keep driving. It was ok. I mean it's a nice location with lots of outside seating g so you can look at the water and watch boats and birds and maybe a dolphin if you are lucky. So, that's good. The food though.. ugh.. not really good. I had a grouper sandwich and it was ok. I believe it was actually real grouper (lots of fakes around here) the apricot lime sauce was ok but they were stingy with it. Bread was soggy and too soft. Needs a bolder bread. My one daughter had a Ruben that wasn't grilled at all. It was a ham and cheese with a pinch of pulled pork and pickles. No sir. That's not a Ruben. The fish tacos we got were fine. The kids meals (chicken and pineapple skewers) were crap and they were meant to come on frisbees but didn't... my grand kids were very disappointed. No sauce pineapple skewer not grilled... generally not good. Drinks... I mean if you want to pay Disney prices for beer come here. $7 for a 10 oz cup was too much. That's not how you get return customers. I do live local and would like to find fun places to hang out. Service was magical in that she disappeared pretty often and we were out of water and drinks pretty regularly. All in all, I probs would not recommend this place to friends. read more

We arrived, and all of us hung out in the bar area until our table(s) were ready, which was easy for a bunch of guys that like beer. A couple minutes later our table(s) were ready, and we are seated. Neat. Our self-appointed leader ordered some appetizers that were just OK at best, and then we ordered. The food quality was just average at best, but those servers... Yeah those servers. What better place to watch the boats sail on the Indian River and the enjoy a brew or two (or more)! I love coming here on a Saturday afternoon to listen to the live band play while enjoying a Yuengling and a fish sandwich. I would say that everyones experience varies depending on the time that they are here. On a Friday night, it's a mess. On a "slower" Saturday afternoon, you can almost have the entire beach to yourself. The service varies and the food is pretty good. As someone on vacation not knowing the area very well I relied a lot on word of mouth and google to find things to do and places to eat. This restaurant kept popping up so I figured it had to be worthwhile. There was a 20min wait which was expected on a Saturday night and we had no problem with that. We could hear music coming from inside and were looking forward to a good atmosphere. Once sat at our table our waitress came over to take our drink requests. She wasn't overly rude but just didn't come across as welcoming or attentive. She rubbed us the wrong way but that's fine as we didn't come here for the wait staff, so we brushed that off no big deal. The music we heard was coming from the outdoor bar area which was nowhere near where we were sat. We had no idea the layout of this place as this was our first time but would have loved someone to tell us we could have sat over there instead of where we were placed. I order a chocolate banana cocktail off the drink menu and was underwhelmed by it. I've had drinks like this at other places but this one just wasn't good. I didn't complain though because I genuinely can let a lot slide and remained optimistic about our food. While we were waiting for our entrees I overheard another waitress at the table next to ours ask the diner how his meal was and he responded with "it's alright". She then asked if he wanted her to take it back and if there was something else he wanted to try instead but he said no and seemed like he had already resigned to the mediocre meal. Our food arrived shortly after and I had ordered the stuffed flounder and my mother ordered the stuffed shrimp both came with mashed potatoes and "veggies". It's a seafood restaurant and the entrees weren't cheap so we had some expectations for the food. My first thought looking at my dish was that it looked like it came from red lobster. I wish we had taken pictures to post here as we had taken pics of our food at every other restaurant we ate at this week, but this was not even photo worthy. Everything was one basic color except the side of veggies that looked like microwaved frozen vegetable medley. The mashed potatoes were not even comparable to the prepackaged microwaveable ones you buy in the cold section of the grocery store, they were terrible. As far as the fish and shrimp everything was one texture, much like mashed baby food, bland and subpar. We contemplated sending it back but honestly after the experience so far didn't think anything better could even come of it so we paid our bill and left. read more
