I vended an expo at the Eau Gallie Civic Ctr this past Saturday. Once the expo ended & my car was packed, I was hungry & had to drive back to Orlando. Squid Lips was right across the street. I ordered on the Yelp app & drove over. I sat in my car for a bit & had yet to receive the text my order was ready but I figured I'd wash up before the haul back to town. I went in, obliviously wandered right past the wash room & went to the hostess stand. I asked directions & said I had an online order but it probably wasn't ready. I was early. The hostess said she'd check. The place was quite spacious with multiple dining rooms & an outdoor deck on the intercostal. Very beachy vibe. Need to check if they do Sunday brunch. Upon my return, my food was ready to go. Pineapple burger w/chips. The burger was HUGE & cooked to perfection. If they were closer, I'd definitely go more often. This place is so great. I'm writing the review as I eat the food. I called ahead of time to make sure that it would be open during this holiday weekend and was glad to hear that they were. The place was easier to find and there was parking in a safe and clean parking lot. That's a nice touch . I was graded as soon as I walked in and directed to the bar, which is admittedly, my favorite place to sit. I had looked at the menu ahead of time and ask some clarifying questions to Lyndsay, my server. She was knowledgeable, personable, and amicable. She walked me through the answers with what felt like genuine amiability. I worked in the service industry for years. I'm talking front of house and back of house; sometimes customer service can be feigned, other times it is true geniality. Lyndsay earned this place its fifth star on the caliber and quality of customer service. This feels like a great place to have lunch or dinner or sit back and watch the game. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that offer fresher, better-quality food with more generous portions for the same price or less. Sat right away, nice ambiance throughout the place. I was looking forward to some fresh fish for lunch but they don't offer the dinner entrees at lunchtime. No lunch only menu mentioned on their website. I heard another couple by us complaining about the same thing. I decided to give this place another try after 2 years, especially since I received a birthday coupon. Honestly, I now remember why I had skipped my previous coupons. The grouper sandwich was $19.99 and came with potato chips, lettuce, tomato, and onion. The bun was bigger than, the fish fillet (maybe a 4-5 oz). While it was seasoned nicely (blackened). it wasn't fully cooked through--flaky in some spots, but mostly undercooked. From the picture, that's the blackened seasoning and it was a bit dark inside. There was more topping than fish, which left me disappointed. If I had to actually pay full price for the fish, this would have been a lower review. Since the fish portion was small, I also ordered wings because I was still hungry. I knew they were breaded, but they ended up being dry, and to top it off, they charged extra for the tiny plastic cup of blue cheese. It was only $.50, but if I had known, I would have passed. However, the wings were palatable. I ordered them because of the wings special. On the positive side, the drinks were solid--well-priced and on point. The service was good, the staff friendly, awesome inter-coastal view, and the place itself has a lot of character with a fun vibe. For that reason, I'd still suggest stopping in for the drinks, ambience, and service. But when it comes to the grouper sandwich, I'd recommend skipping it. read more

The service was great here and so was the majority of the food. The located and crab burger waa amazing. Very tasteful.The citrus salmon had great flavor as well as the stuffed shrimp. The portion was a great size too so it was very filling. Our waitress was very polite and was on point with everything. The only downside was what they called the shrimp and lobster Mac n cheese. Unfortunately the shrimp were not fresh and you can tell they were the frozen precooked kind just tossed with the Mac and cheese. Im still currently looking for the lobster because this dish definitely didn't have it. It seemed like it was langostine instead and very overcooked as well. I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to this dish. Fun fun fun we have always thought about going to Squid Lips but had never tried it until today. How do you describe a restaurant that has indoor dining, outdoor dining on a deck and beach dining where you can sit at a table in the sand. The atmosphere is casual and "beachy"with on this day live music. We started our lunch with two 22 oz beers, after all we we sitting on a deck by a bar with live music, (you gotta have a beer). We started with conch fritters a perfect match with the beer. They were hot crispy outside yet fluffy and flavorful inside with lots of conch. I tried the Mahi Rueben it seemed fresh and well made. We also had fried shrimp which were also very good. Both portions were large and nicely presented. Our server was very knowledgeable and efficient. Overall this was a surprisingly good experience and meal at a reasonable price. read more

We have been going there for a couple years now for Tuesday night music trivia....its best when they have it inside. The bar on the river is a nice view, but hot and humid without enough fans for air circulation. The staff is always pleasant (with one exception mentioned later). The food is overall fair at best, the only thing that hasn't disappointed is the overwater burger. Granted that burger has a hefty amount of stout blue cheese on it....just take some off, add mayo, and then add the blue cheese back to your taste. The fried fish on the other hand....another story. I've had their fish and chips....meh at best. I decided several months ago to try the crunchy fish sandwich, after one bite of completely mushy fish I set it aside. The manager (at the time...haven't seen him since) came by, asked him to take it since it was just too mushy. While he was pleasant his only answer was "sorry you didn't like it, yeah it's kinda mushy" without any offer to take it off the bill or change it out for something else (which made him offer well...an unpleasant experience). Tonight wanted some fish and ordered the fish fingers thinking it would not be so mushy given the smaller strips and less cooking time...same exact texture, just disgusting mush. This time they offered to take it off the bill. We have ordered countless other items off the menu and never one time has any one in the family said "damn that was good"....its just usually "alright". The service charge to pay "untipped staff" is a joke....pay your own untipped staff, don't rely on me. But maybe that's why the food is fair at best? The management and owners are clearly eating off menu....or not there at all, because honestly the food there is just not that good. Try cod or haddock instead of cheap and mushy swai for your fish and chips, sandwiches, etc. Being that cheap only ruins what little reputation you have left in the community....don't believe me, well you should look at Reddit and see for yourself what people think of your food. After reading owner responses to the poor food quality on yelp and other sites...."we're glad you enjoyed the atmosphere" but little mention about their food...and a VERY LONG EXCUSE about their service charge, I feel compelled to downgrade from 3 to 2 stars. read more

I was really disappointed with our experience at Squid Lips. We were seated quickly, but then waited a very long time for our food and the restaurant was not busy. The oysters we had as an appetizer were actually good, but they were served with stale crackers. Both fountain drinks tasted off. The burger tasted like a frozen patty, and the French fries also seemed frozen and lacked any freshness. The yellowtail tuna was not fresh at all, which was especially disappointing for a seafood restaurant. Between the poor quality of the food, the long wait on the food, and the overall experience, it simply wasn't worth the money. For years we've been coming to Squid Lips but I guess between Covid and the hurricanes, the quality of food and service has gone down hill. Tonight we removed it from one of our favorite places. Costs have risen, they charge a fee to help pay non tip personnel and they won't make food to order. Meaning I wanted grilled chicken in a wrap with their blue cheese slaw but it only comes fried. Our server told me point blank they won't substitute the fried chicken for grilled. Pretty sure that's not that tough. You charge a service fee why don't add an up charge for grilled? The place was not very full of guests and service was very slow. Very disappointed and unsubscribing to their emails. read more

Took my wife to Squid Lips for early supper; 4:30 today to beat the crowd. Outside seating was pretty busy so we asked for inside seating and got a table immediately. Waiter came promptly to our table and took drink orders. We both ordered iced tea with lemon. They came out cold and refreshing. We ordered coconut shrimp as appetizer. My wife ordered the fried shrimp basket with slaw and fries. I ordered fried clams basket with slaw and fries. Everything was done well and very tasty. Server was very attentive to our food and drink needs Cost was typical for our area of East Central Florida. The ONLY drawback to our meal was a corner table of older women playing a card game and arguing loudly over every hand. Firstly, it is a public restaurant on a Friday late afternoon. Secondly, people want to come in and relax and eat good food and perhaps have an alcoholic beverage to help relax after working all week. Thirdly, couples would line to talk to o e another over dinner and share time together, NOT YELL to each other because the Ladies Bridge Club are yelling over their card game so nobody can hear their own table conversation without having to yell to each other. Waiter asked if we wanted dessert. We politely declined. We finished our food, asked for our bill, paid our bill and left, Dessert in most cases would have been nice, but not today with the rude arguments over their card game disturbing the entire dining room. Chicken Tender Appetizer: came with honey mustard; appears as corn flakes are the breading. They came out hot and crispy. Very good! Orange Crush: good drink, not too strong. Burger and fries: decent burger and the fries were crispy and well seasoned. Clams: small but good. Shrimp: we ordered hot and they were not hot, kind of soggy. Wouldn't order again. Kids chicken and pineapple kabobs with fries; grilled chicken on one and grilled pineapple on the other, my kid enjoyed those. Our waitress was very nice, service was very slow. It just seemed they were busy with short staff. So no fault of their own. We actually saw a family have sand toys for their kids outside so that would be something we would do next time to allow time to pass. Beautiful view of the water.
