This place is so great. I'm writing the review as I eat the food. I called ahead of time to make sure that it would be open during this holiday weekend and was glad to hear that they were. The place was easier to find and there was parking in a safe and clean parking lot. That's a nice touch . I was graded as soon as I walked in and directed to the bar, which is admittedly, my favorite place to sit. I had looked at the menu ahead of time and ask some clarifying questions to Lyndsay, my server. She was knowledgeable, personable, and amicable. She walked me through the answers with what felt like genuine amiability. I worked in the service industry for years. I'm talking front of house and back of house; sometimes customer service can be feigned, other times it is true geniality. Lyndsay earned this place its fifth star on the caliber and quality of customer service. This feels like a great place to have lunch or dinner or sit back and watch the game. My wife ordered the fried shrimp basket with slaw and fries. I ordered fried clams basket with slaw and fries. Everything was done well and very tasty. The ONLY drawback to our meal was a corner table of older women playing a card game and arguing loudly over every hand. Firstly, it is a public restaurant on a Friday late afternoon. Secondly, people want to come in and relax and eat good food and perhaps have an alcoholic beverage to help relax after working all week. Thirdly, couples would line to talk to o e another over dinner and share time together, NOT YELL to each other because the Ladies Bridge Club are yelling over their card game so nobody can hear their own table conversation without having to yell to each other. Waiter asked if we wanted dessert. We politely declined. We finished our food, asked for our bill, paid our bill and left, Dessert in most cases would have been nice, but not today with the rude arguments over their card game disturbing the entire dining room. I decided to give this place another try after 2 years, especially since I received a birthday coupon. Honestly, I now remember why I had skipped my previous coupons. The grouper sandwich was $19.99 and came with potato chips, lettuce, tomato, and onion. The bun was bigger than, the fish fillet (maybe a 4-5 oz). While it was seasoned nicely (blackened). it wasn't fully cooked through--flaky in some spots, but mostly undercooked. From the picture, that's the blackened seasoning and it was a bit dark inside. There was more topping than fish, which left me disappointed. If I had to actually pay full price for the fish, this would have been a lower review. Since the fish portion was small, I also ordered wings because I was still hungry. I knew they were breaded, but they ended up being dry, and to top it off, they charged extra for the tiny plastic cup of blue cheese. It was only $.50, but if I had known, I would have passed. However, the wings were palatable. I ordered them because of the wings special. On the positive side, the drinks were solid--well-priced and on point. The service was good, the staff friendly, awesome inter-coastal view, and the place itself has a lot of character with a fun vibe. The atmosphere is casual and "beachy"with on this day live music. We started our lunch with two 22 oz beers, after all we we sitting on a deck by a bar with live music, (you gotta have a beer). We started with conch fritters a perfect match with the beer. They were hot crispy outside yet fluffy and flavorful inside with lots of conch. I tried the Mahi Rueben it seemed fresh and well made. We also had fried shrimp which were also very good. Both portions were large and nicely presented. Our server was very knowledgeable and efficient. Unfortunately the shrimp were not fresh and you can tell they were the frozen precooked kind just tossed with the Mac and cheese. Im still currently looking for the lobster because this dish definitely didn't have it. It seemed like it was langostine instead and very overcooked as well. My family and I have been to the Squid Lips in Melbourne several times, but yesterday was the absolute worst! 1. My husband and I ordered adult beverages at the same time. His came out, my didn't. Five minutes later, the server(Mckaylane) wandered over and asked what I had ordered. 2. One of my kids ordered the lobster burger with fries, but when it came out it was just a plain burger with chips. When we pointed it out, it took another ten minutes for the server to bring out the lobster cake. We had to remind her after that about the fries. 3. Within five minutes of getting the forgotten burger, the server was back asking if we were done and needed boxes! She seemed offended when I said we were still eating. She came back about ten minutes later and asked if we were "still picking." 4. When we got our check, I asked about the 3.8% service charge, she very nonchalantly said it was to pay the back of house staff. I will say that both my husband and myself formally worked in the restaurant industry and try to tip at least 20% when we dine out, but this whole experience was terrible; I tipped well below that. We love Squid Lips, but after this we will not be back. read more

Downgrading to one star. Had a family member in town who is lactose intolerant. They are set up to carer to "gluten friendly" which I think means not safe enough if you are a celiac. They do not have a list of what foods have dairy. Not great for an establishment of its size and caliber. On top of that they have the table space to seat probably about 30 more people than they have the chairs for out by the water. This may be a safety thing but with the amount of people they have floating around outside this wouldn't make sense. I've contemplated bringing a camping chair if I thought they would allow it. Overall the only thing this place does well is location. Im not impressed with anything else they do. To make it worse they have a designated smoking area. Don't enforce its use and are happy to let two dudes practically smoke in your face 7 times in the course of the night. Nothing like a nice beach vibe with some inconsiderate animals Smoking in your face. I was really upset by their inability to address this. The aforementioned individuals were leaving the bar to then stand with in arms reach of our table and children. Not the friendly environment they claim. And in regards to addressing complaints in house in my dozen or so visits I've never seen a staff member who appears to be a manager. Perhaps they wear the same uniform as servers. But this doesn't make conflict management very approachable. Another fail in what is a hospitality basic. Overall poor show. Actually. The staff are typically very nice and helpful with the exception of the example in my prior experience. The servers/staff don't deserve a negative review as a whole. I expect more of an establishment of this size in 2026. Having worked in the industry I write as many positive reviews as negative. I don't think we will be back. Over all. The food was very good. I had the Bourbon burger and my wife had a build your own burger. Both were cooked just as we ordered and were very tasty. This is a fun place to go. Not my experience to go out to the beach and have a chill, laid-back Sunday afternoon I asked when they were going to open up the rest of the beach area and they said not till two when we get another server. Of the three Squid Lips locations in existence which we've tried all, Melbourne, Sebastian and Cocoa Beach, this one in Melbourne by far is not my best choice as the pick of the litter. Having been here multiple times, for some reason it does not compare with its coastal sisters! Yes they offer an amazing selection from steamed mussels to Baja Tacos, Fried Chicken Livers to Cajun Bacon Wrapped Scallops, and Coconut Shrimp to Conch Fritters (a fave dish of mine) and wide array of other selections. On our last visit recently, we were dismayed by the lackluster flavors compared to previous visits. Although you can't miss with my large ice-cold local Amber Bock, my Wife's Squid Lips Cosmo did not do so well, it did not resemble a Cosmo much, I should say, not even close! My better half ordered the Stuffed Flounder, which was pretty well prepared, but she was not very fond of the of some of seasoning used, it did not pair well with this type of fish! Last but not least, I was so disillusioned with my all-time fave South Florida Dish - Conch Fritters. Served along with a not so unique or flavorful Bahamian Fritter Sauce. So much so, most was left on the plate. Something I've never done with Conch! To my amazement, the server seeing so many leftovers, wasn't curious a bit as to why they were left behind. But I must say, the winner of the day was an excellent rendition of a flavorful and spicy rendition of Bahamian Conch Chowder - this chowder is highly recommended - Caribbean spicy, very flavorful and filling, my kind of Florida eats. Service and atmosphere are great, but caveat emptor on the offerings in Melbourne, they are not up to par with their other locations. Melbourn Squid Lips, you need to look up to your two other siblings and their attributes - and improve from your cohorts. We'll return though! read more
