How can I not give Square Enix five stars? This company has produced some of the greatest video games of all time and some of the most impactful to me personally. I grew up playing SquareSoft games, the most influential years being in the mid-90s, with masterpiece titles like Final Fantasy II and III (IV and VI in Japan), Secret of Mana, and Chrono Trigger. I've played most of the Final Fantasy main series. I'd rank them as follows (using Japanese numbering): 1. X (2001) 2. VI (1994) 3. IV (1991) 4. VIII (1999) 5. XII (2006) 6. IX (2000) 7. VII (1997) 8. V (1992) 9. XIII (2009) 10. I (1987) The Final Fantasy series has it all. Great, epic stories, interesting characters and fun battle mechanics, and unparalleled artwork (Yoshitaka Amano) and music (Nobuo Uematsu). I still remember one of my co-op semesters in college when all I would do when I came home from work was play FFX. I really got sucked into the game. I got every character's ultimate weapon. The game I sunk the most time into was FFXII at 140 hours and 37 minutes. The only other games that have taken up more of my time (that was recordable) to date are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) at approximately 200 hours and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (2020) at approximately 245 hours and counting (I'm still actively playing ACNH). When I first played FFIV (II US), I had never experienced a video game with such a deep and emotional story. And the music, wow. I used to record the music from the video games, coming out from the TV speakers, using a Fisher-Price kids tape recorder. When soundtracks started coming out on CD in the US, I bought those (Secret of Mana, Kefka's Domain) directly from Square. One of my memories of FFVI was auto-grinding (a cheap tactic) on the Lethe River. I'd put a rubber band around my Super NES controller to keep the A button pressed down and have the characters go around in circles and automatically level up by pounding indefinitely on weak enemies. One time, my SNES actually crashed during one of those sessions (first time I experienced a console crashing). FFVI had such a long and amazing ending. Again, unlike anything I had experienced in a video game up to that point. To date, FFXIII is by far graphically the most beautiful and impressive of the FF games I've played. However, as critics have pointed out, the game is like going down one long beautiful tunnel. The game doesn't feel as open-world as previous entries in the series. I actually got stuck in FF Mystic Quest and never beat it. It's funny because it was designed to be easy. I wasn't interested enough to continue and gave up too easily. I completed FFX-2, but was a little underwhelmed with the game as it felt like a cheap, somewhat soulless sequel. Playing with dresspheres was also kind of weird to me, like I was playing a form of digital dress-up dolls. The books just looked cool and I liked looking at the pictures and graphic design. Still do. As far as the Enix part of Square Enix is concerned, I don't have much experience other than Dragon Warrior (the original Dragon Quest) game for the NES. My sister and I played the heck out of that game. It was our first classic RPG experience. My sister actually liked it and got better at it than me. We actually have two copies because we got one copy for free for being subscribers to Nintendo Power magazine. The NP copy is still sealed. It's crazy to me that Nintendo mailed Dragon Warrior cartridges to every NP subscriber (this was in late 1990). read more

I was advised to wait 24 hours and see if the issue resolved itself, which seemed very optimistic the first time. I listened to them, because I'm polite. The second and third times I was less understanding. The issue persists. How are you still in business? Literally the worst customer service ever, you can expect more care and attention at your local gas station. Over the last 20 years of playing online games, I've never ran into a customer service team as useless as this one. I don't understand how what they're doing is even legal. They have currently suspended my account with no explanation, am going back and forth with the e-mail support (2 weeks in, multiple e-mails back and forth and I still don't know why it was suspended) It's $60 for the game and $15 a month which I have not been able to access and they refuse to refund. The game they produce is good but the company is horrible. They are only good for scamming people. Their support system exists as a smokescreen. It takes 1.5 hours to get through and when you do the only thing they ever tell you is sorry there is nothing we can do. I have had two separate issues and both had the same resolution listed above. Let me begin by saying that SE does not offer bad products, this review specifically focuses on the GOD AWFUL customer support team, if one could even describe it as such. So, several months ago, my SE account was terminated due to a chargeback mistake which is fair and understandable as this is against company policy. I had called them that very same day of which the account was terminated, and surprise surprise, I was shrugged off and was directed to replace the money which I had previously paid for my FF14 subscription. Still no account accessibility. I called them back to confront them about the issue again, only this time, I was required to send in a hand-written letter and signed by the cardholder to assure the issue will not happen again. Sounds like they want legal leverage for a piddly $15 a month. Once I sent the letter in, it took them a whopping one month to read it and put it on file. I called them again and inquired on the account status, only to be told to call back the next day. This results in a month long contest of phone tag with no progress on the account whatsoever. Supervisors are nonexistent, mythical creatures which I was assured to help me recover the account. Yet, to this day I am still playing phone tag with these lazy sloths. I had spoken to a supervisor ONCE in the two and a half months of this retarded game of musical chairs. Which they only promised compensation. Compensation means absolutely nothing if customer support cannot do anything except answer the phone like trained circus monkies. Mind you, each time I called, I was put on hold for upwards of 3 hours. Effectively wasting my time with a company who cannot respect your wallet or your time. Bottom-line, this shit show of a business hires sloths for call center employees who cannot do anything except yank your chain and pull out the rug from underneath of you. I would rather drink bleach than speak to any form of customer service from SE. If you ever get into the situation where you need to call SE for assistance, don't. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Several of my friends have been randomly banned from their online games without any explanation. They also have a terrible tendency to hang up on customers over the phone. (Has happened to me twice) I've never had any of my problems resolved through their customer service representatives, and they always sound depressed and unfriendly whenever I've called. As a user of their Final Fantasy 11 I thank them for the ten years plus of service, but I find their arrogance when dealing with the game players who pay over 160 dollars a year in service fees when it comes to game balance adjustments with certain job classes in the game rather unacceptable. Their localization has really improved over the years, which is super important when it comes to RPGs and tons and tons of dialogue. I wish I could leave zero stars.. I installed a FFXIV trial and made an account but never played. 2 Months later I purchased the complete edition and installed to play with friends. I added my CD Key and no 30 days account time was added. I contacted chat for this and other issues, and they resolved zero. Also would not remove and add my CD Key to a new account, or issue me a new one. A return was not possible, as I obviously installed the game already. I now see a '*some restrictions may apply' notice in fine print on the 30 day game time notice on the package, but there is nothing that refers to on the insert. This company obviously does not care about consumers and is basically scamming me out of the game as I cannot play this newly purchased game unless I pay for a subscription, and I would not have purchased had I known that the account would render the gametime non-existent. Buyer Beware!!! I ordered a figure for my boyfriend as an anniversary present. It was a KH3 figure of Sora in the Pirates of the Caribbean world. I'm still not entirely sure if this was an error on my part or theirs, but they sent the package to a nonexistent address in Buffalo, NY. I live in NJ. I'm also pretty sure that I know my own home address. I reached out to them as soon as I discovered this and requested that they call UPS to change the the delivery address. Something that any shipper can do. They would not. They kept insisting that I had to make the changes myself. As a former UPS employee, both in the warehouse and in the franchise store, I knew that they had this capability. They kept telling me to contact the shipping carrier, wouldn't give me a phone call to fix this issue. I've never, in my many online purchases have dealt with a customer service that was so incompetent. They allowed this package to be delivered to NY where it bounced around in the post office. (this service was UPS Surepost where UPS delivers to the local post office for final delivery). I'm still baffled as to how this package was allowed to go to a nonexistent address in the wrong state. It was only after I demanded a refund that they asked for the proper address, but they would only send it once it was returned to them. I thought going through them directly instead of ebay or amazon would be the best choice, but I was clearly wrong. I found a replacement and its already out for delivery at the time of writing. I'm also awaiting my refund from them (i have already disputed the charge to my credit card). I really wish I could leave them 0 stars. It was my first and last time ordering from them. We were dropping off some relatives to the LAX Airport when we saw the building. My boyfriend wanted to go there for the longest time, so we finally decided on today. We looked online to see if they gave tours, found their number and decided to call and ask. We found out they actually don't give tours BUT we are allowed to take pictures in the lobby. It was our first time there, we didn't know what to expect. As we arrived on the 3rd floor, immediately as we exit the elevators you are greeted with a giant Square Enix sign along with a table of displays of their games. If you turn around to face the elevators, the elevators are actually decorated with some game propaganda. Now, the amazing part!! Facing the elevators, if you turn right you are greeted with a friendly receptionist along with AMAZING figures and awards along the wall. For you Tomb Raider fans, there is a GIANT Lara Croft wax figure to the right of the receptionist as well!! Not only the figures and environment were amazing, but the receptionist bombarded us with gifts!! We were seriously surprised. She bombarded us in a few rounds, lol. First round was a tshirt for both of us. And as we linger and marvel for much longer, she again popped out with more gifts! This time she gave us some figures. We continue to marvel and again, more gifts!! She concluded the final round with another shirt and some slime stickers. Dragon Quest, anyone? OVERALL. An AMAZING first experience!! I wouldn't say we'd return only because i'm sure everything would be the same, but for an experience you surely don't want to miss this building if you're near LAX and if you're a fan!! read more
