I'd forgotten about Cali Games. My son is on a bit of a discovery stage playing all sorts of retro games. My son was looking for a couple of 3DS games, while my daughter was looking for Tomodachi Life, which was sold out everywhere else. After trying several of the big box stores and a few of the local video games stores, we ended up at Cali Games. Cali games had everything we needed. We found a huge selection of many games; many more than any of the other stores we checked. I'll keep Cali Games in mind for future game purchases. read more

I'm Erik and I've been shopping here for a while. This place is literally my favorite store ever. I go here all the time for the retro consoles. They have everything like Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and more. The people are extremely nice. This is the best place to find a old console or game that works to be honest. If you are looking for things like a ps2 or a super Nes or any game console this is the place. The prices are really good too. I heard about the store throw an employee from GameStop cause I was looking for a video game 18 wheeler for the PS2. I also came across one of my old favorite PS2 games streetfighter EX3. Store owner was very friendly clean store and if you have the money, you can find yourself some very rare games for a fair price. I would definitely recommend coming here for a video game fans who are looking to relive their childhood memories playing their favorite video games. Be careful with Cali Games -- the owner is unprofessional, money-hungry, and treats customers unfairly. They seem sweet and helpful but it's just for business. Years ago, when I was a kid, I saw the owner lowball a customer who was selling a PSP (God of War edition). When I tried to offer the customer the fair price he wanted, she stepped in, grabbed the PSP, paid him her price, and told me I was "terribly wrong" for trying to make a deal in her store. She even asked me to leave. I was a child, simply wanting a system I had been looking everywhere for. Now as an adult, I recently came back with my partner -- and the same thing happened to another pair of customers. The employees laughed about it, even talking about posting the customer online to shame him I assume. This shop doesn't care about community or fair business. It's all about squeezing money out of people. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Keep every receipt. read more

Hey Sherman I took another closer look at another game I purchased at your god awful store previously before the $400 game you destroyed, and come to find out you guys are actively chopping the tops and bottoms of games that have shelfwear on them to make them look like they're in better condition. You guys are destroying hundred dollar artwork to save yourself a couple bucks. Also to respond your final message regarding tax I didn't mean literal sales tax, I mean you yourself are charging the extra dollar and offer extremely low for trade ins. I was looking for a place to get a ps5 repaired. Apparently there are only 2 stores in the South Bay that do this. I called both and this one was 20-40% cheaper depending on the repair. My ps5 would shut down randomly any time I tried to play ps5 games. Worked fine for ps4 games, but ps5 not so much. This place had a lot of good reviews so I decided to trust them. The employees in the store were all friendly. It took them about 24 hours to repair the ps5. I got a text the next day saying it was ready. So far so good. My ps5 would shut down 30-60 min after starting a ps5 game. Yesterday I played for several hours in a row without a single shutdown so it seems they have fixed it. I'm very happy with the results. This repair only cost me $100 which was fair in my opinion. My other ps5 needs a disc drive replacement so I'll be bringing it here without hesitation. read more

This place has been around for a long time! They have been modernly renovated, but still filled with all the nostalgic feels. They have just about anything video game related, and also some other things like DVD's and plushies. Customer service is great and the owner really knows her stuff, so if you're unsure of something or need expert advice be sure to ask her. My husband needed a controller and a wire for one of his game consoles, for both he paid about $26.00, I'd say the prices are reasonable. Parking can be a little hectic at times as it shares a parking lot with several other businesses. read more

If you are looking for a local video gaming store - then look no further! I was desperate looking for a case for my new PlayStation Portal for TODAY since I'm traveling and won't travel it without the case. Anyways, I tried all the big name stores GameStop, Best Buy, Target NOTHING. I call here at a last stitch effort and the nice lady picks up and tells me she doesn't have a portal specific case but she has some switch ones we could try. She even said she'd remove it from the packaging and let me see if it fits before buying it! I brought a lot of games here about two years ago and they provided me with in-store credit and a receipt that didn't expire until 2054 in excess of $110. I just left this business after driving out from South Orange County to attempt to purchase a PlayStation Vita, but they informed me that they no longer fulfill their advertised trade in credit system and they said that they sent out texts to each account when they were getting rid of the program so they took $110 worth of games from me (because I wasn't able to get the cash because if I had taken the cash it would've dropped down to $85) and I drove out from South Orange County waste of time waste of gas.... read more

When they offer you five dollars cash for a game and it's call of duty one of the most popular games with no scratches in great condition and then when I asked how much to get store credit I was only offered six dollars which was a slap to my face then the customer service is terrible talking about Oh well you can go sell it somewhere else then I thought that was very rude and unprofessional of a comment to make when I've been going to this business since before that girl was born, Judy is very rude as well at times, but can have her days, but at least she would've known to give me at least a better deal on the store credit not offer me one dollar more they make enough money, ripping people off for the games that they Purchase off of people and resell for the same price brand new or if not I understand you need to make money but not by ripping people off and especially your customers who've been coming for you for over two decades. For over 15 years now, Cali games has been my go-to gaming shop in the south bay. Some of My family once lived just a block away so when we weren't in school, we'd come down and play/buy video games and also buy packs of Yu-Gi-Oh cards as it was getting more and more popular. The shop used to be nearly half the size it is now. Not only have they expanded their game selection, they've added a repair station to their business which is convenient considering the resurgence in retro gaming within the last decade. You can find titles and hardware for almost every modern and old-school console. They've done away with the card games but you'll find a shelf with collectibles and figures if you're into that. I have not yet serviced any of my consoles so I can only provide feedback for the main counter. The ladies working the desk are patient and helpful. They will take the time to help you find what you're looking for. If you grew up gaming in the 90's and early 2000's like me, this is a must. Skip boring GameStop and come straight here. read more

READ THIS, BUYER BEWARE! My two sons came to this game store to trade in 3 perfectly good gaming consoles plus some games and accessories. My sons received roughly $100... I can only imagine this store made 3 times that. They also bought a NEW XBOX controller. My sons had to return to the store that same day due to it being defective. A lemon isn't that uncommon, but it happened again a few weeks later. Two times? Most customers wouldn't have stood for that, but we exchanged for another one... AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN A THIRD TIME! Another day, another videogame store to visit in my month-long quest to find the best videogame store in Southern California and today brings me to Cali Games in Lawndale. I saw all the pictures of people that won PS4 consoles from 2014 and thought, "Hmm, maybe this place might be worth a visit". Here's a few Pros and Cons: PROS: --SERVICE. It's best to call up the store in advance and ask if they have a title you're looking for. They are helpful on the phone and can save you the trouble of the long drive. --SELECTION. This is one of the few places where they have multiple copies of some very popular Retro titles. Titles such as Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and even Ninja Gaiden Trilogy are IN STOCK here. Other Retro places barely have these titles and yet they have it here sitting behind the glass counter waiting to be purchased like hotcakes. That being said, their selection of current-gen and Next-gen stuff is not as vast (even though they're spread out among the entirety of the store). --NOSTALGIA. This place definitely stacks up on their Retro titles. When you get towards the NES/SNES/Genesis/PS1/Dreamcast section, you'll see a barrage of old titles some of which are hard-to-find. You'll also find a glass case filled with various game systems for purchase. If you thought you'd never find a fat PS3 model ever again, you thought wrong! --SIZE. This is probably the SECOND biggest videogaming store I've seen other than Game Dude. There's lots of room to move and racks filled with PS2/PS3/Xbox/Xbox360 titles. It's like visiting a library only with videogames instead of boring books. --FAKES. Yes, they have several Retro fakes for sale here, which I thought was hilarious. For example, they have a bootleg copy of "Mortal Kombat Final Blood", which added blood to the censored version of the SNES game. To all the whiners that complain about "illegal merchandise", just shut the Hell up and let it go. CONS: --PRICE. This is a 50-50 deal for me. A lot of their Retro titles are SUPER pricey and can really take a hit on your budget. For example, they have a used copy of Samurai Shodown Anthology on PS2 for $60, yet I bought a copy of the same game at Game Dude for HALF the price (yes, I said HALF)! Also, $40 for a Legend of Zelda SNES copy with NO sticker on it? Jeez! On the other hand, their Current-gen PS3/PS4 stuff is fairly priced, so no problems there. Look, I'm not gonna complain that they can't sell this stuff at high prices (hey, it's their store so it's their prices) but I can't recommend it to other Yelpers, either. --LOCATION. The store is located in a strip mall in Hawthorne next to a Pep Boys store. Depending on which freeway you take (the 405 or the 110), making the trek here can be really time-consuming even on the weekends. Remember, the 405 Freeway is NOT your friend. This place is definitely worth a visit just once to see all of the rare titles and accessories they have for sale. Some of the items are affordable while the rest will burn a giant hole in your wallet. Unless you've got a very big budget for buying Retro stuff, I would only suggest purchasing the Retro stuff IF you can afford it. Trust me, that copy of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 isn't going anywhere soon at their asking price. read more
