Donuts are amazing. Soft and delicious homemade donuts are hard to find. The stores are cash only. Their staff makes you feel as it they are rushing you out. There is a line of customers parked outside when they open at 6am. Most of their donuts are preferred for businesses. When they run out of donuts they close without warning, so I would come as early to open as you can if driving from far away. My favorite donuts are the glazed and the long johns. There have been many times where we went at 9 am an they were already closed. With a successful business they should make enough donuts or make more donuts if they run out to last until remotely close to what they lost as their closing time. The donuts are the best but are a bit pricey at $15 a dozen. The store is warm and small so it feels cozy and comfortable. read more

Donuts are average at best. They are a cash only establishment. My bill was $21 and I had $18 in small bills or a $50 and they wouldn't take the $50 bill. I told her it seems pretty ignorant to be a cash only business and then be even picky about what cash they take. I don't know if they can't afford a marker to check currency or what their issue is but I've never had a business not accept cash from me of any size. They had no signs saying they wouldn't accept it. So my only assumption can be that they think my appearance would be that if someone who would knowingly use counterfeit money. This is for the Northside location as they don't have its own yelp. I'll stick to dunkin, Baesler's, or Kroger and they all take several forms of payment and I like supporting small businesses but if you want to be picky about how I pay for your overpriced donuts, bye! read more

The strawberry donut had a thick delicious glaze over a soft and chewy - possibly fried- square delicious chunk of heaven. Clerk was a bit grouchy so we didn't order as many donuts as we would have if she was willing to answer questions as first time visitors....like what flavors they have without attitude. Listen, I'm honestly tired of going to other cities all over the US where they claim to have "the best donuts" because every time they're literally not even close to being as good as Square Donuts. It's probably safe to say I shouldn't even ever try Donuts elsewhere because it's just not worth the disappointment. I was in the area and was looking for some type of sweet treat to take home and decided on this little donut shop. They have a large parking lot and also have a drive thru that you can use if you don't want to get out of your car. The inside is pretty small and appears to have seating but my guess is due to covid they do not have their chairs and tables set up. I went in with the idea of getting some regular glazed donuts but they were out of those. I ended up with one jelly filled donut, one custard filled and 4 cream filled ones. The donuts are unique in that they are a square shape as opposed to the traditional round. The donuts were actually very tasty. The dough was pillowy soft and there was a good filling to donut ratio. They only accept cash so just know that if you go and don't have cash on hand you won't be leaving with any donuts. I'd definitely recommend trying this place out and if you have a certain type you are wanting you need to get there early! read more

I am probably the last person to evaluate a donut (in general, I eat too clean and rarely consume donuts), but as a Terre Haute native who occasionally visits, I feel compelled to throw a few kind words towards this noteworthy shoppe. If you live with the theory "save your calories for the moments that count," consuming a Square Donut....or two....or three...would fall in this category. Very mid-America, very small town, very traditional, very welcoming. Ambiance of shoppe is basic, simple, Midwest. Donuts are fresh, fresh, fresh. Taste is sugar, warm, soft, simple (I say warm, because you have to get there early in order to get any of the high demand varieties, like the tractor tires). Tractor tires and chocolate frosted with cream inside are really my personal favorites. These are real deal donuts. Not some fancy schmancy high end shop...real deal basic donuts the way they should be. Having grown up in Terre Haute, I have fond childhood memories of Square Donuts. I hadn't eaten them in a decade, so I was eager to try them again as an adult during a recent trip back. They lived up to every positive hype in my head. The plain square glazed are my favorite, but I love how the ladies will comply with requests to add maple or strawberry topping to the glazed donuts. The pace is frenzied, but the ladies who work here are lovely and patient while taking your order. Go early as the donuts sell out (on weekends sometimes by 10am). They do have a few interesting flavors (peanut butter topped jelly filled, apple pie filled, lemon, caramel...) although nothing really daring. For me, the plain glazed are a work of art. While not as silky smooth as Krispy Kreme, the almost-crystallized sugar glaze is superior. Note: more than two may induce a sugar coma. At $7/dozen (or 70cents /ea), it's easy to get carried away.
