Cramped, and mediocre lol. Came here for a brunch meeting with some friends that recommended this. Nothing special. But it's quite packed. The place is very tight and small. The food is okay. The corn beef hash is tasty, but the wraps and the pancakes are a little bland, and unremarkable. Would say, just go to IHop lol

It is a small diner. Everyone is friendly. Before 3pm, it is busy. Wait time is about 15-20 minutes when I got there at 1pm. There were two servers. Service was great. Chicken pot pie - really good. Fresh, big, and warm. You can chose two sides. I chose manhattan clam chowder and side salad. $21 Turkey Meatloaf - it tastes good but needed more gravy. You can choose two sides. I chose spinach with mushrooms. $22 Both the pie and meatloaf were servings for about two people.

Your typical diner which is a good thing. They had outdoor seating set up so I decided to go with that on this visit. It wasn't too busy but the service was still a little slow. The food was good and I would be back if I'm in the area but definitely not my first choice.

The food was really good, it was super busy but the staff were so welcoming and nice! Also, the iced latte was good as well!

Visited Square Diner for brunch on the weekend and it filled my no-frills, diner craving to a tee. My friend and I ordered the tuna melt & chicken pot pie -- a bit out of our typical brunch wheelhouse, but perfect for the rainy cold day. Both dishes were tasty, well portion sized and above all, affordable. Staff was super friendly, joking around with us and providing suggestions which completed the overall experience. If you're looking for a classic diner to visit in NYC, Square Diner is the place to go!

Wow!! What an awesome diner!! The owner is super nice, the restaurant is a bit tight, but they make it work, service was outstanding. But most importantly, the food was out of this world!! I had the California Eggs Benedict!! Fresh avocado, ham. Was so delicious!! We also got the avocado toast, yummy!! Coffee was also delicious!! Highly recommend!!

Food was very average diner food, the tuna melt was really good. Found a piece of bacon in my vegetarian omelette which was upsetting but they did take it off the bill which was nice. There was about a 25 min wait for this place and I don't think it was worth it, prices were also pretty high for a diner $21 for a tuna melt. And no hot coffee refills! Place was old school diner vibes very cute but very tight! I'm assuming a lot of people were in a similar boat to us which was that the bubbys line was too long and this was around the corner

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

You're not dining Michelin here, but it is a good spot that hits the spot with their food and coffee. They really move things well, and quickly so wait times are often minimal, staff is speedy, yet you don't feel rushed. The ambiance is, well, diner. It is diner booths and tables, typical heavy duty diner dishes and basic cutlery, but that's perfect for this establishment. I haven't been here in a very long time and thankfully it hasn't changed very much. I went with the Acropolis Omelette that had gyro meat. It was delicious. It came with a side of hash browns which were crispy and rye toast. I added a side of bacon "just because." Coffee refills are still free, which is great. The food is what it is, fast, tasty and filling. The prices are up but not outrageous. I realize that a lot of diners have closed in NYC due to costs and regulations but I'm glad this one is still here. Diners are one of the things I really miss since I left NYC.
