Square Deal Shoe - I love these sneakers. They are super comfortable and very cute. Square Deal has many options and the service is superb. - Shoe Stores Near Me - Des Plaines, Illinois

Like a step back in time, yet with modern styles and impeccable organization. We were greeted by the grandson of the original founder who even checked the back for us to see if they had the kind of special stockings I was looking for (sadly, the kind I needed can only be found online these days). Nonetheless, I got an eyeful of their quality inventory of footwear that are actually built to support human feet without sacrificing aesthetics. Fantastic, kind and knowledgeable customer service regardless of how much you spend. read more

A nice family store. Going back to buy another pair. Bought my husband a pair of shoes. read more

Lots of lovely shoes. Competitive prices. (Because the shoe companies set the price) however FANTASTIC personal service!!

You get more than a square deal at this shoe store! John outfitted my husband with a needed pair of shoes for a black tie event. The selection was outstanding. There was no pressure, just excellent service. I will never take him to another store. By the way, beautiful shoes and accessories for women too. read more

Recently visited this store for the first time. On this particular visit they were and still are celebrating '100 Years' in business, so they had a sale going on, buy 1 pair get the 2nd pair 40% off and Nick gave me 20% off my third pair of shoes I purchased. Once I was home and tried wearing one of the pairs in the house, the shoes just didn't fit right. So a week later when driving by the store again, I went in to return that pair of shoes (which had the 40% discount on) which Nick wanted to make clear I had a refund. When I got home I began to think of the whole situation and felt like the receipt should have been reworked to show my that I paid full price for my 1st pair of shoes and received 40% off the second pair of shoes. So I called and asked to speak to the owner, he put me on hold and came back tried to explain how his store policy worked. Then he called me back and said it was only a $5 difference between 20% a pair of shoes and 40% a pair of shoes. Lets put it this way $109 - 40%(44.00) and $135 -20%(27.00) is a $5.00 difference? I tried to explain my math but he just didn't want to hear it. Went back to Store and returned the pair of Shoes that had the 20% discount based solely on principle. He proceeded to raise his voice and tell me he didn't need to do business with shoppers like me. Nick also raised his voice, and seemed incapable of keeping his mask over his nose (yep, did bring this to his attention). So if you're trying to follow mask mandates this store possibly is not the store for you. And you may want to see the written policy in regards to Sale Discounts. read more

I have wide feet and finding comfortable shoes is hard for me. I came here and it was shoe heaven for me. The man helped me try on several pairs until I found "The One." The last pair like it that I bought was similar but $25 more. They were both New Balance and of similar quality. The shoes were fine as was the price but the man helping me was a real star. I wish that I could remember his name. He was the fellow in his 60's but I enter acted with the younger guys too. It seems like n all star team. read more

Angie L One week ago Bought a pair of casual shoes here last week and was very pleased with the selection and the service of the salesman. Very accommodating and it was nice to still be able to have an old fashion shoe store like this in the community. Will definitely go back for more shoes. read more

Square Deal Shoe - Scored some great autumn boots and enviable leather heels at Square Deal Shoe! - Shoe Stores Near Me - Des Plaines, Illinois

The shoe styles are current, are of a good variety, and nice quality. I have bought many things here over the years with which I've been quite happy and I like the idea of supporting a local family-owned business in a chain-store world, however, I had a bad experience and won't go back. My advice is to check to make sure you are buying the right size, and go in when there are other customers present, to avoid any perceived 'pressure to buy'. If you enjoy a lot of personal attention from the salesman and micro-managing owner who sits on the other side of the room watching TV and talking to other people, but who watches, listens, 'supervises' and comments...you won't be disappointed. Might be nice if there was more of a female 'presence'. read more

This shop has a great selection of quality shoes in a variety of styles. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything, though I did receive immediate assistance and was offered a variety of shoes to try on. I'm glad I found a pair that worked for my needs, and while not as cheap as some off-brand from an online source, I know I received a quality pair of shoes and supported a local business. read more

Square Deal shoe store is by far in my opinion one of the best places to go for shoes. There a shoe store that knows there shoes by far. I've been going there off and on for over 60 years and starting back in the 5o's when I was a kid and my father would take me there. They waited on you and not you waiting on them . They measure your feet the correct way. There reasoning is to satisfy you the correct way. There not there to just sell you a pair of shoes but to wanting you to come back for your next pair of shoes. I'm going back there to get me a good pair of winter boots this time. Remember one thing. They must be good otherwise they wouldn't be going on 100 years of being there. read more

I've lived in Des Plaines for 27 years and went into square deal shoes for the first time last Friday. The store was clean and the staff was polite. They didn't have the shoe I was looking for in stock, because it had just been released, but they were able to order it without an additional cost. The price I paid was right on par with how much the shoes were online. When I came in a half a week later they remembered my name and what I was there for. I will definitely be back! read more

DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE! Bought two pairs of shoes for my father (at HIGHLY INFLATED PRICES). He was measured in the store by one of their employees with a MAJOR crappy attitude. My father tried wearing the shoes while walking the dog. His feet hurt him so badly, that he almost had to take them off in the middle of the walk, and walk home in his socks. He then tried walking with the other pair of shoes. Again, same problem. The return policy is 14 days. We brought the shoes back after day 7. The owner/employee REFUSED to give my dad his money back. He talked down to my mother. He would NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES give my father his money back. FAIR WARNING...STAY AWAY. NASTY PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH!!!!! read more

I would like to comment on sales person Nick. He is an outstanding and compassionate person. My shoes were too very large after ordering them. He was very helpful in his way of service. He stayed after hours and tried everything to satisfy me. read more

The staff is very helpful and will go above and beyond... if they don't have it in stock because you have a "EEE" requirement it's not a problem. We've been a customer of this family run business for many years now and would recommend that you visit with them for your next shoes and coordinating scarf/purse or take it to the gym and go get yourself it shape! This longtime well run, well stocked downtown Des Plaines location is close by and spacious parking out front or around back. Give them the opportunity to earn your trust and you will be a long term returning customer! read more

Today I took my handicapped brother for shoes. The gentleman who assisted us was so kind and helpfull and understanding. He brought out multiple pairs and patiently assisted trying them on and making sure the fit was correct. Our salesman and the owner made the shopping experience so easy, wide width and special needs were no problem for them. Thank you both. read more

The shoes here are more high-end... I guess. The people who work here don't have a variety of shoes because most of them been there for a while so basically all they have over priced shoes from brands you never heard of.. I probably won't buy shoes from here ever because frankly I don't have the urge to pay $200 for male low cut boots that I can get on amazon for $75-bellow read more

This store became my go to store years ago for my son's footwear needs as he was off the charts in growth. As an adult, he continues to go there for his size 13.5 shoe needs and always finds current styles and quality shoes. The gentlemen are most helpful and definitely know the shoe trade. read more

LOVE this shoe store! My son wears a wide shoe which can be very difficult to find. We needed dress shoes for several upcoming events and I just did not have the patience to muddle through tons to shoe boxes at a "self serve" store trying to find a wide shoe while my son does a slow burn. The folks at Square Deal remembered me from my earlier visit when I told them what I was looking for so, when I came in with my son they measured him and came out with shoes that were just what he wanted. The salesman made sure the shoes fit perfectly, even adjusting the heel because it was slipping off a bit when my son walked. You just don't see this type of customer service in today's world, that combined with reasonable prices makes me so happy!! We will definitely go back to Square Deal Shoes! read more

Not your grandmothers shoe store! Great selection, styles, service, quality and prices. I had been driving by this store for a year and finally stopped in one Saturday. Spent 2 hours with the owner who was so helpful and knew so much about each shoe (fit, quality, etc). It made things so easy. Being family owned for generations meant personal service, which you never find any more. They even put the shoes on your feet and took them off. Who does that any more? I ended up buying 3 very different styles of boots. No more DSW or ordering on-line just to end up sending most of them back because they did not fit. I am only going to shop at Square Deal Shoes. read more

I don't know about the shoes but their advertising said they are open on Sat until 5:30pm and I called a little after 5:00 and no one answered. I guess that is another lost sale. read more
