Recently I arrived at the park ridge store early on Monday morning (10:45) and I was the only customer, I knew what shoe I wanted ( New Balance) and the size and the style. The only missing piece was the color. The colors in stock at the store were not to my liking, and the sales person researched the inventory at other locations wherein I made my choice. The wonderful sales person said it would be at the store the next day, and they would deliver it to my house when received. When I returned home that afternoon I received a phone call from the sales person indicating the shoes where at the store that afternoon (Monday) and he would deliver them to me at approximately 3:15. He was spot on and delivered the shoes when promised. Class. Act. As a Park Ridge resident, I was curious to check out the new location as it was just around the corner from my home. I am not a runner by any means but was looking for a pair of shoes that I can walk around the neighborhood in that wouldn't give me blisters. I should point out that I am not a runner, and this is the first time that I ever set foot in a running store. My daughter runs cross country and track and buying at Dick's Sporting Goods wasn't cutting it because she really needed some good running shoes prior to track season, so I decided to suck it up and go to a running store. Walked in and the customer service kicked in right away. Someone started talking to my daughter about her needs when it came to running and any issues her current shoes were giving her. They had her take of her shoes, walk around and then run on the treadmill so that they could see her feet and ankles when she was running. The guy brought out 3 pairs of shoes he thought would help, each shoe did, at different levels. He absolutely made my daughter feel better about her own judgement by making her an absolute part of the processes... how does it feel under your foot? Does it feel like you're wearing shoes? After the first round of try ons they were able to zero in on the style of shoe that would help her most and brought more out. Even had her run on a treadmill again so she could get a better feel for what she had on her feet. These guys offered suggestions to help her shinsplints, the talked to her about flexibility, they were friendly and informative. Honestly, I was really impressed with the care and attention that they paid to this teenager who just needed a new pair of running shoes. We will definitely get the next pair here! We didn't even spend that much more than we did at Dick's, but had a far better experience with customer service. read more

I highly recommend the store for anybody that cares about their feet and what kind of shoes they put on them! I am not a runner however I have extensive trauma to leg and ankle, and Angela spent quite a long time with me measuring, checking my stance and foot imprint before selecting a series of shoes for me to try, along with orthotics which my doctor recommended. She was extremely knowledgeable, had a great sense of humor and really made the shopping experience very pleasant! My neighbor recommended the store to me and said it was the best pair of Nikes she's ever owned, and I believe I am going to have a similar experience with the Brooks shoes that we decided upon for my situation. This store is a great asset to the community. I own a gym nearby and many people do not have a clue when it comes to buying proper workout shoes. I refer them to Dick Pond's and they always get a proper fitting shoe that works well for them. I have also had the same experience myself. Often shoe manufacturers change the fit from year to year, so the same shoes do not always fit. They do a great job of listening to my feedback and recommending the proper shoe. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They have you walk or run on a treadmill in the store for a short time to review how your step is. For example, my arches are starting to fall and that shows up on the small t.v. review when I am walking. Seeing the way you step helps in picking out the right gym shoe for you. The video will show how much support your feet needs. This is important as everyone's feet are different with how much support they do actually need. The salesperson then can guide you to which gyms offer that type of support. The return/exchange policy is excellent. I bought a pair of gyms on the 16 of May 2016. I had been wearing them and trying to get used to them. They just were not working out. In fact, this particular pair were developing tears on the inside back of the shoe. I called the store on 6/1/2016. "Nico," looked up my account. I could not find my store receipt. He was courteous and had me come in and he promptly took care of exchanging my shoes. He offered either a refund or exchange to me. I opted for a different pair of gyms. Good customer service should be something all stores provide. But as we all know not all stores/salespeople do. Each and every time I have been in there, each salesperson at Dick Pond's has provided me with great quality service and friendliness. The store has, "fun runs." It is a free way people can meet up at the store for running. The group that meets up there is nice and everyone goes at their own pace. All different ages and abilities of runners meet up. I am a regular runner and had pretty good luck choosing my own shoes in the past. However, I was in need of some new running shoes, I went to Dick Pond based on a recommendation. I figured it wouldn't hurt to get some professional validation of the kind of shoe that would be best for me. Did I come to the right place! They had me run on the treadmill to examine my footfall and gate. Based on the analysis of the wear pattern of my old shoes and this treadmill test, they came up with several options. The shoes available were all high quality and therefore not cheap - but I value my knees and ankles, so quality is important. Here is my rare five-star review for Dick's Pond, which I have found to be one of the more personalized and professional athletic store. Running shoes are not inexpensive, but be sure that you are properly fitted for your next pair. They will assess your foot strike pattern, gait patterns and running patterns (for free). You will see yourself running on a computer screen. You can see where you over-pronate or under-pronate while you are running. You will notice how your foot strikes down. Does your foot strike down more in the back? Does your foot strike down more toward the front? Do you suffer from heel pain? Shin-splint pain? They will definitely assist you with the best running shoe for whatever issues you may have as a runner (from your past history to your current issues). You may be surprised about which running shoe is best suited for your foot (or your needs). You may be surprised to learn more about your strike, gait and running patterns (maybe, maybe not). My favorite brand-name running shoes are Mizuno (Wave Riders) Brooks (Ghost) and Saucony Ride 7. I purchased a pair of Asics Gel Nimbus last year. Yeah, they were very pricey, but well worth every penny. I like the modern and contemporary vibe of the store. They also have a fairly good selection of cool running shoes with some awesome-tastic colors! You will also see other running gear sold here (such as, running jackets, pants, tops, etc.), but the selection is not as great as Sports Authority. It is probably three stars since the variety and/or selection/sizes are limited. This is not a huge store. What I like best is that as a customer you will receive excellent customer service. The store manager went out of her way to call other stores to find out if they had a specific running shoe in stock in my size. Whenever I find a really, really great running shoe that works for me, I tend to purchase more than one pair. I rotate my running shoes because it is not good to wear the same running shoe everyday. Your running shoes need time to decompress and "rest" just like you need to rest after running a 10-20 mile race or the Chicago or Boston marathon. I love the colors and choices of brand-name running shoes here. I usually order my running shoes on-line since I really dislike going to stores to shop, but once a year I make it over to this store just to see what is new in the running world. I recommend this store for beginners as well as serious long-time runners. Be prepared to drop some serious money. You're not going to find an excellent pair of running shoes for "cheap." If you are serious about running, invest the money in an excellent pair of running shoes. Your feet will thank you :) read more

The employees are very helpful. This is not Payless Shoes - you are not going to leave here without spending more than a few bucks, but the service and quality is unmatched. I was helped by Andy, who evaluated my walking pattern and got me fitted with four pairs of shoes so that I could find the right pair. The store was busy but he was able to accommodate several customers at once easily. I will be running my first marathon and they were very helpful in regards to shoes and other accessories. I felt I got my moneys worth as the shoes I purchased were about $5.00 more than what you can find online, but I was able to try them on, and they evaluated by feet via a treadmill and video camera. I have always avoided Dick Ponds Running stores--boy was I wrong! Joko, the manager at the Park Ridge store has gone out of her way to accommodate my running needs. I have been impressed by the personal attention when fitting for running shoes. In addition, I am a Cross Country coach at a nearby school and have needed last minute items for meets, the staff has made phone calls and traveled to get items, often at no charge. They are really working to expand the running community. I live in the city but now will bring my running needs here to Park Ridge. read more

Attention to detail and personal service. That's what Dick Pond's is all about. Dedicated runners work there and they are ready to share their knowledge and experience with you. And believe me, their advice is invaluable! They put me on a treadmill and analyzed my gait (stride, walk, whatever) and recommended shoes that fit my needs perfectly. They record this analysis so that you can see it for yourself and they go through every detail with you. You just aren't going to get that kind of service from the high school-aged part time stock boy at the sporting good store! I had never been professionally fit for shoes before and it was a treat. (Turns out that my feet are different sizes. Who knew?) I felt like I was walking on clouds when they were done with me! I am so glad that I went to Dick Pond's for my new shoes and I can't recommend this store enough. I am a runner and was so excited when Dick Pond opened up in town! I knew it would be great to have a running store close by, but I am more then impressed with the staff and excellent customer service this store has given myself, my running friends and the overall community. I've heard what I believe to be managers putting down customers for disabilities and was treated as not very important on my three visits. I spend about $100 per month at least at running stores.
