Looks like your average neighborhood donut shop. Donuts are average tasting, but strawberry doughsant was yummy. After 2pm, you can get a dozen donuts for $7. I came in the afternoon and most of the donuts were gone, so if you want variety and freshness, come in the morning. read more

I'm a fat girl...and I love me some donuts. Over the past year, I have lost 50 pounds. I did that by juicing, water fasting, and working out...what I mean by working out is, parking at the last stall in the parking lot and having a little farther to walk. I digress...I wanted a donut soooo bad and my usual shop was closed. When I say "bad" what I mean is, if a zombie held a donut out...I'd be tempted to accept it (don't judge...it might not have been a donut...but you've been in the same situation [insert side eye]). So using yelp, I found this shop. It is in a nondescript shopping center. When you walk in, there are these plastic flowers and foliage on the wall...it reminded me of my extremely eccentric and overly medicated cousin's house...quaint but odd and strangely appealing. I get 2 donuts and walk back to my car. I eat said donuts. They were delicious...if I wore a wig, I would have snatched it off and thrown it on the ground. These donuts were just OK. Got a dozen ,little bit of everything. Cake, french crullers, fritters and old fashions seemed a little dry and little light on frosting. Glazed were ok. I was told potato flour is used so maybe this makes for a dryer donut. Good selection and friendly staff. While this isn't the original Spudnuts location that I grew up with, these are still original Spudnuts donuts, and you just can't find them anywhere else. While visiting home, this little slice of doughy heaven was within a 3-block walking distance from where I was staying, so I visited at least three times in only 10 days. What makes a Spudnuts donut distinct is the fact that they utilize potato flour. No, the pastries don't "taste like potato" - but they have a certain airiness and flavor that I just haven't found elsewhere. Some of their donuts may be the standard thoroughfare (small round ones with various glazes and toppings), but you HAVE to come for the apple fritters. The edges get nice and caramelized and sweet with the glaze - the center has just this perfect doughy taste with the right amount of apples and flavoring... It's the benchmark I use when eating apple fritters elsewhere - and none so far have beaten these as the best. Other items to try: Old-fashioned donuts, nice and buttery. Crullers, so light and airy, especially with a maple glaze The Maple Bar (maple-glazed long-john). Pure Awesome. Spudies (previously called "donutholes") - if you think the Munchkins at Dunkin Donuts are remotely good, these blow them completely out of the water and are 10 cents apiece to boot. Apperently the menu has increased to include smoothies and sandwiches and other things that for some reason are NOT donuts. I didn't try 'em and I don't care to. I come to Spudnuts for the Donuts. This has been a go-to donut shop for me since I was in HS... and that was a long time ago... =p Their donuts are fresh and delicious but the one thing that has me drooling EVERY TIME are the cream puffs... SO much so that I've requested it multiple times for any parties that have been thrown for me. I've even had my husband pick some up for me due to pregnancy cravings! This is my local convenient donut shop. All their donuts are on par. Their cronuts reduced in size, it's alright, I don't like the one with the white cream even with strawberries, there's something weird with the cream that comes with it, it is unusually thick and dense and waxy. But other than that this place is my go to for donuts because it is literally in my backyard. They do give occasional free donut holes, for sure if you buy cronuts. read more

On a recent trip to LA to visit Aaron's S parents we made a few visits here. It doesn't look like much on the outside, and the inside is also fairly bare bones as well. But you have to try to apple fritters. They are just so good. Crisp and almost maple tasting around the edges and super light and doughy in the center with just the right amount of apples and spices. If you are ever in LA made sure to visit your local spudnuts, and get very sad that you cannot find any apple fritter that matches up in Chicago. read more

Decent donuts at a decent price. My maple long john definitely tasted fluffier because of the potato flour. My sisters and I also got a custard cronut to share. This is my go to coffee fix while on the go. I had all their donuts and donut holes they are good tasting. This review is mainly for cronut I tried today. It was flaky and moist from inside and crisp outside with just the right amount of sweetness. Cream was good not too sweet either. Together the flavor of flaky pastry and lightly sweetened cream tasted good. Having said that i like their donuts better than cronut. So I will just stick to getting donuts and coffee. read more

Unfortunately all things must change and change is not always for the better. New owners have redecorated the seating area and it is quite nice however they are still learning to make donuts from the taste of things. I've been there a few times since they took over and while the taste as improved they are still a long way from matching the flavor and quality of the previous owners. The donuts are either sickeningly sweet or bland or the has an odd consistency. update: Months have gone by and these donuts are not Spudnuts. I agree with other reviewers on here--the new owners/bakers at Spudnuts are not keeping up with the quality and taste that was established by the prior owners. The donuts are no longer crispy and fresh as they were. Now they are very doughy and have an odd texture. The shape of the donuts is different too and prices have indeed gone up. You also no longer get a couple free donut holes with the purchase of a dozen donuts, like the previous owners used to do. Sad for me, I'll have to find a new go-to place for donuts. :-( read more

I agree with everyone that the change in ownership really lowered the quality of the doughnuts and raised the cost enormously. I used to be able to purchase four cake doughnuts and a large coffee for the same price they now charge for two cake doughnuts and a pint of milk. BTW the cake doughnuts are close to $1 a piece. The doughnuts are smaller and the texture is very moist and gummy. Before the cake doughnuts were crispy with a light airy interior. The atmosphere has also changed. The prior owners were wonderful, friendly, and fast. This new group is trying but often they just get the order and ignore the customer. It's not a nice experience so goodbye Spudnuts. This is the only donut shop I consistently go to because they're just THAT good! Service is excellent and they always help you with a smile. What I like most here are the apple fritters and just the plain glazed donuts. FYI, If you plan on getting a lot, make sure you come early because they're always busy in the morning and get sold out of a lot of stuff by the afternoon! I was having a small treat today at Spudnuts Northridge and witnessed a kind act by the owner, it is very disheartening when you read a few people take it up on them selves to give a negative rating to this business. They clearly don't have a clue what it takes to run one and when you see the owner trying to make all customers happy it's amazing. Just bought 15 different donuts here(we like to tray a big variety first time at a new donut store so we can really see how they are...) and they all tasted stale and dry. not a single one i wanted a second bite from. we actually threw them all away. Why don't donut stores know that they can't just make the donuts at 4am and hope they'll still be good at 2pm in the afternoon??? the only one that was good was the strawberry cronut. the layers were still crispy and flaky and strawberries were fresh. although it was too messy to eat. read more

They got my order wrong twice, first they didn't add avocado as I asked then after they added avocado and I got the sandwich it had mustard....instead of apologising the guy argued that I didn't say no mustard....really bad customer service.... read more

They have doughsants!!! They have plain, banana cream, strawberry and choc chip croissant donuts. So perfect. Have only tried theirs and Whole Foods version (Meh) and I would totally go back here.
