Grabbed some breakfast for my friends and I during the hectic moveout season. We got the bagel sandwich and croissant sandwich, both of which were amazing! The portion size was great- one sandwich filled me up for several hours. A hidden gem for breakfast sandwiches at a low price! Bagel sandwich was my favorite- we got the jalapeño bagel willed with egg, sausage, cheese, and bacon bits. I believe the croissant sandwich had the same fillings. Will come back! read more

My friend likes this place, so I end up eating their donuts every now and then. They're hit/miss to me and I wouldn't ever go out if my way to order them myself. The reason: usually the donuts here are too greasy and have the rancid/old oil taste clinging to them. I can never predict when they happen to change their oil to prevent this, but I am occasionally pleasantly surprised when they do. The texture is pretty good, lighter and chewier than most places due to the added potato in the dough they use. The glaze is a good balance between soft and hard as well. Seems they used to offer a variety of flavors shown in pics that they don't anymore. Prices are a bit overpriced for what you get and employees aren't the friendliest. If you come near closing time, expect that they already started packing up and won't be selling those items. I will say they make a pretty good powdered taro drink with whipped cream though! A lot of people really like Spudnuts, but this is the second time I have visited and the second time the donut tastes dry. I can't tell if its because I went in the afternoon (2 PM) or if the donut is just naturally dry from the potato base. Besides the dryness, the cinnamon twist has good flavor though. read more

Spudnuts are pretty frickin good donuts. We got a delivery of... too many donuts as part of our quarantine grocery selection. I am thrilled this is an essential business :D I love the potato flour - makes for a fine fluffy donut with a nice little chew to it. The really amazing donuts here are the cinnamon doughssants - the same concept as a cronut. The raised donuts and apple fritters are absolutely to die for as well. In the past I've bought donuts and coffee here for events at work, which works okay. 4 stars not 5 because I've had some world-class donuts in my life and these just don't compete. I've got no problems with Spudnuts -- I tend to stop by to pick up a box for work, or a meeting, and their donuts are generally on point. The price point is average once you factor in what donuts normally cost and how much it costs to have a shop in I.V. A dozen assorted donuts (meaning that you can pick anything off of the bottom three shelves) costs $12.99, which isn't a bad deal. This includes things like the classic sugar twist, maple glazed, and even a cake donut with the iconic pink frosting and sprinkles found on the Simpsons. If you want one of their specialty donuts/pastries, such as their cronut knockoff or my personal favorite, the cinnamon bun, you'll have to pay extra. The donut holes are roughly $2.50 for a dozen, and they're kinda dry and unevenly glazed, so I recommend skipping them. If you're a smoothie or boba enthusiast, they do sell theirs cheaper than Ice Milk Company/Fire & Ice down the road, and at roughly the same price as Wake Cup. All drinks are made with powder. There's a fee for credit card use, no minimum, so bring cash if you want to avoid that. read more

One of my favorite places in IV! I love to come here and get a bagel and occasional boba (which is pretty decent, comparable to mojo in my opinion) or yerb. It's also nice when looking for somewhere casual to stop and sit or want something sweet. The staff is the sweetest! My only complaint is the FLIESSS; they aren't on the food, but I swear they love that door. read more

Donuts. Some of my housemates are children. Sometimes they get donuts. And guess what? I suddenly want a donut too. So, I drive over into IV (early so I don't have to deal with anyone). I have ordered: Regular glazed donut-$1-dense, but not too dense. I liked it. A "meaty" donut. Red Velvet-$1- smaller size, more cake-like, basically in between a chocolate and regular cake donut, with red food coloring. It was OK. But not the best. Old fashioned-$1- soggy interior, good glaze, but frankly it turned me off. And it was pretty scrawny. Who wants a skinny donut? (not me). Donut holes $0.20/each or $2/dozen- these are pleasant. Good texture and glaze. I would be interested if they had different flavored donut holes. Seriously. They have a fair amount of options. Bar donuts, cake donuts, all the usual Winchells options. But they have croissant-donut/cro-nuts, which are alright too. Not the best, but it's the closest donut shop around... (Besides 7-11 and UCSB apparently) read more

I enjoy frequenting this Spudnuts best. For a donut shop, the interior is very nice and polished. It has a nice jade toad statue and a bar. This one also has the greatest variety and amount of donuts compared to the other Spudnuts, in my experience. I called the Fairview location once asking for a particular type, and they said that an employee delivered most all of their donuts to the IV location. I also like the employees at this location best. I am guessing that a Chinese family owns Spudnuts, and I find the family members who work at this one are friendlier. A number of students work here as well. read more

My boyfriend and I frequent Spudnuts a lot... and who could blame us? They make delicious donuts, and it easily became one of our favorite donut places. Spudnuts is open late until midnight everyday except for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, when it's open until 2am. So it's a great place to get your late night sweet fix. They serve everything from donuts, cronuts/doughssants, breakfast sandwiches, boba, tea, coffee, and other drinks they have available on that day. My favorite donut from Spudnut is their red velvet, especially when they're fresh and out of the oven. They're so soft, tasty, lightly glazed, and they melt in your mouth too! Unfortunate thing is that they sometimes run out (yes, they're that good) or they don't serve them on certain days. Other than that, they're delicious. The maple-bacon donuts and bars are good as well and as expected offer a pretty good balance of saltiness and sweetness if that's the kind of stuff you're looking for. Another thing we always get when we visit Spudnuts is their breakfast sandwiches. Sure, they're simple: eggs, cheese, your choice of bacon/sausage/ham, but there's something so perfect and wonderful about the simplicity of it and it definitely hits the spot. Best thing about it is that they serve it all day not just at breakfast times. And plus, it being IV, what more could you ask for on a late night after some partying or even some long hours spent at Davidson Library. Spudnuts offers wi-fi, has tables and chairs for you to enjoy your sugary and salty snacks, and is usually empty the times we go there (I imagine they're more a take-out kind of business). Also, they deliver or you can take out via SB Menus, so you can probably check on that website for deals and promos they might have. I am definitely going to miss the convenience and deliciousness of Spudnuts when I graduate in a couple of days.... But I shall be back! I woke up on a Sunday morning with an intense urge for a nice, warm, juicy donut, so I decided to go to the only donut place in IV for the first time. I set foot inside and to my astonishment, I didn't even smell any donuts! Regardless, I ordered a maple bar and an apple fritter. I was so so excited to bite in and enjoy it, but when I did I was thoroughly disappointed. It was cold. And slightly dry. I didn't even get that amazing buttery taste! It tasted like soft, sweet bread with a tiny bit of flavoring. They need to step up their game if they want to stay in the donut business. This place is FABULOUS!!! A true gem for Isla Vista... going above & beyond for the Isla Vista community. John, the store manager, truly goes out of his way to ensure that customers feel appreciated & valued. For example, I called the store to see if they could possibly deliver several dozen donuts to my son who attends UCSB and lives in IV. It was a special birthday for him-- and, given that I live across the country, I was desperate to send him and his friends something fun (and tasty!) to help them celebrate. Even though I did not ahead of time (poor planning on my part!), John graciously took my order-- and even delivered the goodies to my son's house, himself. I could not have been more impressed or appreciative. I am forever a fan of this wonderful shop-- and I look forward to many more visits in the future! read more

Always quick service here, Apple Fritters are really large, about as big as my hand, with a nice solid glaze and streaks of cinnamony goodness running through the entire thing. Only thing is, the apple chunks are tiny and don't seem to be too many of them. Definitely didn't notice them while eating it, had to look for them and even then its hard to tell apple pieces from doughier wet parts. Donut holes are a dozen for $2.50, and as I'm all about that glaze, I always get them. However, I've been the disappointed the past couple of times because they seem to be only covered on about a quarter of the entire hole, and with a very thin layer too. They're nice and fluffy, I just wish they were glazed a lot more. The Maple Old-Fashioned donuts are my favorite. Super thick glaze and enough maple flavor to make a canadian very happy. read more

I went in the evening around 6 and picked up three donuts. One cinnamon crumb and two strawberry with sprinkles. The donuts were good, but a little on the dry side. I'm not sure if they would've tasted better if I picked them up in the morning while still fresh. read more

Simple donuts are over a dollar, others are over 1.50. The donuts are not very fluffy, and for the price, it could (and should!) be so much better. Donuts at ucsb are the same price and are softer and fluffier than the ones here. They run out of popular flavors around the middle of the day, so if you're looking for cronuts, red velvet, or sugar donuts, the earlier you go the better chances you have.
