I was surprised by the taste because usually when places say seasoned they usually mean salt and pepper. My granddaughter got the kids burger with fries and orange juice. We also ordered some pretzel bites as an appetizer. About 20 minutes later our appetizer finally arrives, and so did the appetizer of the couple next to us that arrived and ordered about 15 minutes after us. About 20 minutes later our food still had not arrived but the couple next to us had already received their food. Finally our server comes to check on us and noticed we still hadn't gotten our food and went to check on it. About 5-10 minutes later my husband and my food finally showed up.. the couple next to us had already finished by then. They brought out our food but not my granddaughters. Who brings out food for the adults before the kids? So she had to sit another 10 minutes before her food was brought out. She did say they were really good but her fries were too spicy for her so they brought some out with no seasoning. Our prime rib sliders were also very good. The manager came out and apologized to us and comped the kids meal. Only problem now was, I was going to use a coupon code for 25.00 off 50.00. With the kids meal taken off our total was just under 50.00 by about 20 cents. I definitely wasn't prepared to pay 50.00 for our lunch. We'll give them another chance as the place was pretty cool. Birdies is very easy to find, as it is right inside the gate of Fountain of the Sun. We told the security officer that we were checking out the restaurant and were issued a placard to leave on the dash of our car. No masks are required, or worn by staff. More of a sense of "normal" which I personally appreciate. We both ordered a BLT with fries and a Mimosa, and also asked for some water. The Mimosas were brought out pretty much immediately, which was really nice. A few minutes later our lunch was served. Unfortunately, we never got the water that we asked for, but that is neither here nor there. Lunch was delicious, the staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very pleasant. While it was restaurant week, we both decided to order off the regular menu. Prices were very moderate for all items which was a surprise. I started off with a complimentary onion soup which while not authentic was a good try at the flavor and texture. It came with a cap of cheese properly melted over the top. Companion ordered the fish and chips which came with some excellent french fries and were cooked perfectly. For myself, I had the Walleye which was pan fried and which had a parmesan/potato covering that protects the fish from the heat and keeps it moist. The walleye was perfectly cooked and a delight to eat. Unfortunately, it came with brussel sprouts which while seasoned properly were undercooked to the point that I could not put a fork in it nor cut it with a knife. Dessert was interesting. Companion ordered affogato which is a ball of vanilla ice cream which then has a shot of espresso poured over it. The ice cream was good but the espresso seemed a bit harsh over it. For myself, I had the strawberry cheesecake gelato, and I found myself in dessert heaven. I've had many gelatos in my life and this one topped them all. Smooth, creamy, and loaded with flavor it was almost hypnotic to eat it. I found out that it is a creation of Villa Dolce Artisan Desserts which is a partner of Sysco Foods. The company produces this wonderful dessert in a 76000 square foot facility located in Glendale, AZ. If I can find a local place that sells the pints I will fill my freezer with it!
